  • My first shooting of the Uberti Walker replica manufactured in 1998. This has a slower twist rate in the barrel than the more recent productions which seem to be close to 1-16. This one is closer to 1-30. Comparing its group size and speeds to the newer faster twist model, and also to a Colt 2nd Generation with a much slower twist.

Even better or as good as the 1/16. Huh? I like the front sight mod. Interesting sight radius length too.

I suspect it will not be as likely for the RB to strip rifling with an increased load as with the 1-16. O.R.

Nice groups. Have you tried to identify if the lone stray in the group is coming from a particular chamber? or, just the way it is? As usual, great video. You are hell on those pop cans!!

I did some testing a couple years back(different gun) because it seemed there was a similar thing going on. Also I had seen (or read) that a chamber could do that. Now I’m not saying that isn’t correct, but can say I didn’t find a connection. I’ve checked my sighting ability at the distance I shoot, and my resolution is about 1-1/2 to 2 inches. So really any smaller groups are somewhat problematic. I’d like to think I’m capable of less, but maybe at a younger age. If a shot goes out of a tight group it’s more like you said. Just the way it is. There’s lots of other variables as you’re aware of. Did I miss align the sights? What about the hammer sight in its cocked position? Something in the loading process? Anyway, probably not a chamber because that would be too easy. Appreciate your bringing up this possibility. Yes, it surprised me what that extra 300 f/s did to the cans. O.R.

I'm convinced when you get those small groups and then a flyer, it isn't the pistol, the load or the projectile, it's because you are human and it is really difficult to hold a massive pistol as the Walker, it take a lot of concentration on your sights and getting the same hold for every shot is fatiguing, one little flinch of your wrist under recoil (Unnoticeable) to you throws the shot. I have a feeling you did outdoor Bullseye and know what I'm talking about. Btw, I was and may be wrong, I thought you were in Canada, it threw me off to see American currency in your video. anyway thanks for suck great content. Keep it coming dude. - Dave

Appreciate your idea. Actually I used to think the same, and that said does not mean that I don't toss a flyer, and yes, I have shot outside in league. Thing is that I would call the shot good, and it was a BS shot. I know some folks may use the excuse that it was a flyer when actually as you say, they messed up.
My present thought is that these things will do the flyer thing if the fouling isn't kept soft. Even with that, there are lots more things to go wrong, When I shoot one that goes 8 or more inches out, it is probably not me, especially from the bench. I used to think they were hopeless, but now I'm thinking it was more in the loading. Actually, I'm going to make a statement that may raise eyebrows. I suspect that the real issue begins with modern powder manufacturing. I have some good reasons for thinking that. Thanks again for the comment. O.R.

I read again your comment and better understand. I thought you were referring to a shot that is further out, say 6-8 inches. I would agree that those 2-3 inches are probably not flyers, but sighting errors, trigger pull, fatigue or something like that. Thanks for pointing this out Dave, stay safe. O.R.

If I remember correctly the old cap and ball revolvers were all zero'd at 100 yards which is why the replicas shoot high at 25 yards. I have tried mine (Uberti Walker) at 100 yards with a full chamber of 2F and it was pretty much dead on at 100 yards. Pity I never got my 2nd Gen Colt to shoot. It deformed the wedge every time I shot it, even 3 shots was enough to loosen the barrel (I never went over 20gn of 3F so it wasn't that) so the gun was never accurate. Damn shame.

Thanks for the idea. Plan to bump up the charge in the 2nd Gen and see what happens at 100 (and to the gun). O.R.
