  • Joaquin Phoenix is one of the greatest actors living today, but also one of the most misunderstood. We all know him for his oscar winning role in The Joker, The gladiator and recently Napoleon. But behind the camera’s he’s very mysterious and not a fan of interviews, making it difficult to tell when he is joking or being serious. He has been acting ever since he was young and so deeply embodies his characters, that it’s sometimes hard to get a grasp on who he really is. This is the turbulent life of Joaquin Phoenix, and an attempt to understand the man behind the many faces.

I can only imagine the conversations DeNiro and he might have had if they weren't both pretty much all about method acting for such serious roles. They see it as a responsibility, and as a (now retired) actor of 30+ years, I totally resonate.

What do you mean nobody has played Harry Houdini yet? There's a really good movie about him. 2007s _Death Defying Acts_ (starring Guy Pearce and Catherine Zeta-Jones)
It's from the perspective of a little girl who's mother was a psychic & had an affair with Houdini. Guy Pearce did a GREAT job in that role. Altho, I'd definitely go see Phoenix in that role, if he ever took it on. In the meantime, I recommend you check out _Death Defying Acts_

The Joker as played by Joaquin is the best acting i've ever seen, no doubt. The entire movie you have this feeling you are watching a ticking, emotional, atomic bomb that sits there ready to blow up the entire screen. I don't know of any actor who ever gave shape to such a complex character and did that flawless and on a mind bending level.

Eyes are the windows of the soul.
Been a fan of Joaquins since Gladiator.
Where I saw something beautiful, painful, tragic in his eyes. Didn't understand back then as a kid watching him and Russell.
    In his voice, his acting.
For years watched and enjoyed his many roles. Haven't seen Napolean.
When about a year ago streaming something on River Phoenix, Viper room. I never knew about. Never knew they were brothers.
And how he tried to save, revive River. It made me physically ill. That he had to go through that.
And that some of us can still see River in there.
Or how the Joker role is fitting. Cus Joaquin can access those real horrors and emotions for the Dari role.

Seriously, take a good look at Joaquin's reaction after Russell Crowe acknowledged him at 7:23 , the man is so intense, so vulnerable, sensitive and raw. I don't know how to put this, it's like he's never really acting because he's always himself or is it the other way around, he's never really himself because he's always acting?

The way how you're putting them together, the story telling is outstanding. Nothing I have seen in a looong while. Please don't stop. It was a short break I needed from all of the mundane things but most importantly, it was a realization that I still love cinema, movies and why I was watching movies like crazy as a teenager and young adult. Thank you.

I have always been a fan of Joaquin, I think the first time I saw him act in anything was Gladiator, but seeing him in Quills (one of my favourite films), Signs, and The Village, I knew I was a fan. I also loved Her and Walk the Line, and of course he absolutely nailed the Joker. He deserved to win that Oscar finally, though I think that most of his roles deserved to win.
I have been skipping the Oscars for a long time now, like, the last one I went out of my way to watch was when Return of the King won Best Picture...but I made a point to watch the one where Joaquin won for Joker, and his acceptance speech had me sobbing by the end of it, and still whenever I hear it, I am brought to tears.
He deserves all the awards, praise, and acclaim, and thank you for this video! He is a complex person, an outstanding actor, and so deeply emotional and talented...I didn't know they were making another Joker, but I'm very excited to see him play the role again! Apparently it's a musical and Lady Gaga is playing Harley!

00:19 🎭 Joaquin Phoenix is renowned for his portrayal of dark and unconventional characters, notably winning an Oscar for his role in "The Joker."
01:27 🕊 Phoenix's upbringing in a nomadic lifestyle within the Children of God religious community influenced his early interest in acting.
03:51 💔 Tragedy struck when Phoenix's brother, River Phoenix, died of a drug overdose at 23, leading Joaquin to step away from acting for two years.
05:36 🏹 Phoenix's role in "Gladiator" marked a turning point in his career, showcasing his commitment to method acting and earning him his first Oscar nomination.
07:43 🤯 Joaquin Phoenix's dedication to method acting goes to extremes, altering his appearance, adopting mannerisms, and conducting extensive research for each role.
09:32 🎸 Phoenix's portrayal of Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line" earned him a Golden Globe, but his immersive approach took a toll on his mental health, leading to a period of addiction.
11:49 😅 Joaquin Phoenix's apparent retirement and venture into rap, revealed in the mockumentary "I'm Still Here," was a humorous yet misunderstood move.
14:20 🎭 Post-"I'm Still Here," Phoenix showcased a diverse range of roles, proving his acting prowess, culminating in his transformative performance as the Joker, winning him an Oscar.
16:57 ❤ Phoenix's Oscar acceptance speech emphasized growth, redemption, and the importance of supporting each other, reflecting his commitment to authenticity and positive impact.

Its crazy how he looks EXACTLY like his dad. Meanwhile River looked very similar to his mom.
I'm glad Joaquin was able to comeback from some pretty horrible $hit growing up and then being there for his brother's death..
He gives himself to his performance much like River... I wish we could've gotten to see them together. They would've been a powerhouse together. Joaquin has the same views on the earth like River did. It's a shame River was the whole house bread maker up until his death.. All the pressure just made him want to escape.. but then again his death also sounds a weird fishy how someone made him a random mixture of hundreds of dollars worth of drugs in a cup and his most doped out friend was told to give it to him. Tragic. Loved Joaquin's speech. They cut out the part that made me cry about how we as people just take and take resources and animals.
    RIP River

No real mention of how good looking Phoenix is. Part of why he is handsome is the deep compassion and empathy it takes to choose to be a vegan and to remain true to that commitment. He doesn't have extraordinary, or unbelievable, good looks but a 'guy you could meet in the real world' vibe. It's like he is lit from within by his talent, kindness and mercy.

No other movie, TV show, or interview has ever brought to light the extrordinary life of the Joker character. The director, producer, sound and visual professionals of course added to the unbeatable performance of JP, however it is he who openned my eyes to the torment and fragility of the Joker persona. I found myself sad and teary feeling his inexcapable anguish. Kuddos Mr. Phoenix. Well Done!

Until they've made sure the correct help is on the way to the correct location as fast as possible _nothing_ else matters right? What is the actual purpose and most important reason of the emergency call? Immediate help. I'm sure as soon as that is secured they can be VERY supportive. What if trying to calm someone down to explain would take 30+ seconds (a pure guess from the responder at that time) and telling them "you need to hand the phone to someone else right now" when you know they're not alone, takes 5 seconds. I think it's INSANE to call someone a jerk over that.
