The little girl who doesn't speak english is Sámi. The Sámi people (/ˈsɑːmi/ SAH-mee; also spelled Sami or Saami) are an indigenous Finno-Ugric-speaking people inhabiting the region of Sápmi (also known as Lapland), which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Murmansk Oblast, Russia, most of the Kola Peninsula in particular.
This is honestly one of the best animated Christmas movies of the last few years! Thank you for reacting to it and I'm glad you enjoyed it! More people need to see this movie!
Heck, I just realized. Santa technically translates to “Saint”. And figures named as saints don’t get that title until after they die. So the end of this movie explained how he went from Mr. Klaus to Santa Claus. 😱 MY MIND IS BLOWN……
It's how it works in real life too. I understand there was an actual guy who got sainted after a life of charitable deeds, and his story amalgamated into the modern "Santa Claus." I think. The history's kinda obscure.
@@azuroslazuli6948 Overly Sarcastic Productions did a video about the history of both Saint Nicholas and how he eventually morphed into Santa Claus in popular culture
The little girl and her family are dressed like that bcs they're Sami which are a native people group endemic to the European arctic regions and that's one of their most common traditional clothing, what they're speaking is also the Sami language. They traditionally live by reindeer heading which is probably where they got the idea to include them in this movie from
fun fact: the characters were 2D animated, but with the addition of layers of shading & highlights (think of it as an animated illustration!) _tho 3D models were used for some characters and objects_
I remember seeing a roughly animated sketch promo for this project back in animation school in like 2010/2011. I’m so heckin’ proud of Sergio and his crew for making it finally happen!!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. It’s so cute and like honestly makes u think about how it started cause kids will change a story and have active imagination also just the fact it shows men can have emotions and that two men can be friends and show emotions toward each other
I love it that this movie is getting the recognition it deserves. It’s super duper amazing I had it on repeat every Christmas season for the past few years it’s been out
I adore this film, one of my all time favorite Christmas films I’ve ever seen! Everything from the story’s premise, the 2D animation, vfx, and the characters (Margú being my favorite) are fantastic. We could use more 2D animated films of this caliber, Sergio Pablo’s and his team really pushed the envelope with Klaus. It deserved to win that Oscar back in 2019! P.S: No matter how many times I watch Klaus, the feels always hit me, hard! And also, subbed!
The clothes that the saami people are wearing are the traditional “kofte/gákti”. It’s something they would wear everyday before around the second world war, now it’s more used for special occasions. Also, there are more than 10 different variants depending on where you come from. My Lyngen-gákti is my most precious possession
This became an instant Christmas classic. Ever since it came out (granted not too long ago lol) I have without fail watched this on Christmas. And I plan to keep that up till the day I die
Me, as a German: "Well, you silly English-speaking folk keep pronouncing 'au' like an 'o', and then you get confused why 'Claus/Klaus' sounds different in other countries."
Okay, I'll say it: The filmmakers are well aware of the ship Klausper, and actually widely support it, even going as far as to share fan art for it among each other. I believe their words were that wasn’t the original intention, but they were flattered that fans saw it that way. Also that the fans made clear that it's meant to be taken as bi positivity.
Whenever I watch films, I just can't help but think "what if... they get together in the end?" That was what I was thinking watching this movie than I was like "Nah! Not everything is romance!" So I never knew that people actually ship them 😂😂
Thank you so much for reacting to this movie! It is a Christmas movie that we needed. It has the spirit you think of when it comes to Christmas but it’s not a film that is an old classic, it’s now a classic for a new set of generations.
I would like to reccomend you another Christmas animated classic, named Arthur Christmas (2011). It's a great film, kinda underrated, created by Aardman Animation (although it's CGI). Nonetheless, it's a lovely christmas tale.
you would love Arthur Christmas!! i haven't seen anyone react to it and it's SO GOOD completely underrated it's my family's favorite christmas movie of all time
arthur is santa's son and it's an incredibly touching family movie about christmas (like delivering the presents and the santa family) it's so good even if you don't react to it i just want you to experience it!
There are many Christmas movies to watch, but very few actually make my list of must-watch Christmas movies. Klaus when I first watched it, instantly become one that I fell in love with and will watch every year.
S-somehow every person I've seen react to this movie somehow misses the very beginning like "this is how the Santa Claus and mailing letters to him started"?? Like- everyone is always going "oh so they don't have santa Claus here. Oh, what's Santa doing out here" LIKE-
i feel like with your love of musicals, you would ADORE "A Year Without A Santa Clause" (1974) and "Santa Clause Is Coming To Town" (1970), my family and I BOP to these soundtracks every winter
I think this might be my first time seeing this movie. It’s really really good. Also since you liked this movie you’ll might also like the new Christmas movie on Netflix a boy called Christmas. Definitely a you have to see type of movie.

Very similar to Joulutarina, especially the finale. Operation Christmas Drop, Journey back to Christmas, Elf (2003), Miracle on 34th Street, Borrowed Hearts, Sons of Mistletoe, Northpole and Northpole: Open for Christmas
Imagine him watching Spider-Man: Into The spider verse, or even the greatest Christmas movie ever made: DIE HARD Edit: I just went through his channel, he already did spider verse... whoops...
A good X-mas movie that I love and recently got a sequel is called The Christmas Chronicles (starring Kurt Russell). Klaus is also a top tier I watch it even when its not Christmas.
The reason they use the Sámi as the "elves who help Santa" is actually probably due to the traditional belief that they could perform magic and were actually protected by the viking era cultures against Christian missionaries for quite a while because they relied on the Sámi for these practices and didnt want Christians to have it or ruin what the Sámi were. Unfortunately the vikings themselves were eventually converted and then tried to convert the Sámi people themselves.

The region is still known as Lapland in English and Lappi in Finnish, but it is Sápmi in Sami 😊
