Forgot to explain... we hold SHIFT when moving the keyframes on the retime curve because it stops them moving up or down! Holding shift means they stay at the value you set them, but allows you to move them left and right :)
Thanks, that's really helpful to know!
I know this one is 3 years old but for those of us just starting out, there's no better place to find the basics to the complex than right here. As always, thanks Alex.
Without this video, my first edit in Resolve would have taken approximately 13 years. Thanks brother 🙏
Changing the composite mode to 'Darken' and put transparency to 75%. Looks a lot better!
I've only had Resolve for a couple of months so there is so much to learn, but between us you are bringing me on one video at a time. Your videos get straight to the point and there is no time wasted.
Literally was searching for this a few days ago. In fact, came here to see if you had a video on it before.. Well here we are hahaha 🙏
I needed it one month ago. Now I'm curious how he did it 😅
Genuinely the most useful tutorial on Davinci I've ever gotten. Wasted over an hour of my life on other videos, only yours works, thanks
This is by far the best channel on Resolve I've come across. Not only for the actual topic, but because the little icons and buttons are also explained, such as the smoothing of the motion of the highlighter effect.
Oh my gosh your videos are soooo easy to understand and allow anyone to learn what they need to learn in a short period of time! Thanks, Alex, for doing what your doing! Keep it up 👍!
Had to highlight agenda points in my video, your tutorial is plain fantastic. Learned from you how to do this in two minutes and it just works. You rock, sir!
literally a lifesaver! thank you!
Quick and easy solution. Nice!
Nice, easy and useful. Thanks Alex
Thanks! This was very helpful, straight and to the point.

Another very practical and easy-to-follow tutorial. Thanks!

What a great video! I had seen this incredibly complicated animation tutorial to highlight texts... I almost gave up! Thank you for sharing!!! This was motivating!
Great quick and dirty highlighting hack, thank you.
Simple and amazing!
Love the quintessential English noise you made to transition from intro to tutorial. Lol.
Wow. You have no idea how helpful this is. This is exactly what I was looking for!!

Thanks man. I'm trying to make some programming tutorial videos and this is probably the simplest video i have found to do this. Found a load of videos on how to make shapes and stuff but they all 15-20 mins long and get complicated really quickly... This is just what I'm looking for 🙂
Alex, This tip was GREAT !!!! I totally needed this. I am so glad i am a subscriber. Thank you💪👍
Great, you are very thorough and clear.

Honestly mate I love your channel.
Nice one, mate.
Mate you're a legend for this
AWESOME! I'm using this technique in my 11th video, the video I'm targeting for release in the next day or two. Very easy, very effective. Thanks!

"Your a wizard, Mr. AlexTech" - Hagrid, probably.
After choosing a color and reducing the opacity you can get an improved highlighter effect by trying various composite modes. Depending on the text/paper/highlight colors you're dealing with you will likely find a composite mode that improves the text readability.
Thank you very much! I was trying to figure out something like this but got stuck and didn't want to need fusion... genious!!!!
Tidy! 👌😎
This is a solution to a problem I haven't got yet but it's good to know in advance. Ta! :)
Cool, thanks I thought it was more complex to make this effect in davinci.
thanks boss
thanks for the nice tutorial. for me i would use a multiply mode instead of changing the opacity.
This is how I am doing it as well, might be dirty but it works quite well to be fair
It sure does 🙂👍
Hahaha, a month ago when I needed this I used solid color and a transition effect.
I like your idea better though!
Perfect TY 🇩🇪
maybe im late, but do u remember if u have done the pro version of this tutorial in fusion. im finding a lot of value on your tutorials. thank u, man. you deserve the best
..thank you so much
Great
Nice one! A thousand times easier than doing this in Fusion! A little twist to this is. You can change the composite mode to "Darken" which allows you to keep the opacity at 100%
great job again, thank you, but i think its much easier, if you change solid color to compound clip, and also give it transition on top
Cool effect, but the thumbnail was pretty misleading about what the final effect would actually be... stoked for the work you're doing in the curve editor though, that thing is a beast and your tips were extremely helpful!
Hey Alex - love this! Please do more tutorials on how Vox does their graphics and style, like this one!
yes
Awesome Alex, thanks! I am actually looking for to understand how to do speed ramping better and quicker, i wonder if you have any ideas on that, thanks
I found it on your channel, thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for! This video even conviced me to subscribe but I ended up not doing it. Sorry pal, I was already subscribed 🤷♂😂
Simple effect that if we need to create it probably we’ll never find out how easy could be
Look it a 5 minute Friday on Monday. LOL.
I have decided to be "lazy" and use this method. 😁 Would love to see a tutorial on set extensions at some point.
I'm guessing staying within Transform and setting key frames could be used for stretching the highlight over time instead of using Crop for that one function?
Hi, could you please do a tutorial on how you do the circle zoom effect as shown in this video please. Would be a massive help. Thank you.
Nothing wrong with a bit of hacky dirt now and then...! 😆
It's the story of my life honestly 🤣
I wonder... What about making a compound clip and apply some subtle rotation/pitch/yaw to add a little fake perspective?
And THAT, my friends, is how to do a tutorial video!
Cheers Tim :)
Helpful as always, Alex. I probably gonna google how to do it the "proper" way, just to know how much work you saved me xD So, let's assume I am very lazy, how could I use this, what I just created in a differend project? How could I save this little Textmarker as... whatever?
How do you make the magnifying glass effect?
