People talk a lot about what respect means when it comes to parent and child. This is what respect means ❤️ It must be such a gift to be seen and understand after so many hard years on this planet

I found out two days ago that my dads cancer is back and is inoperable, and untreatable. He has maybe 6-7 months if we’re lucky. Every second is precious, enjoy the time you have with people you love because one day the rug will be pulled out from under you. Love the story, and I love that you’re proud of your dad. 💜

Joanne you can't talk about your dad's fave donuts and not show him eating them! My eyes are demanding tears! 😂 Love your storytelling! ❤️

I like that you do soooo much to make your father’s words heard and I really do appreciate it. It does influence me to look at things twice before jumping in to conclusion about what my father does.

As an immigrant, I’ve lived apart from my parents for a long time and so has my husband. I have a very close relationship with my family. It’s been hard being in a different country. So much depends on status, money and other external factors. I’m really glad that I’m not alone in feeling like I’m not being a great daughter, even if everything doesn’t depend on me. 🥺 Thank you for all your videos! You’re such an inspiration… I just bought your cookbook, I’m so excited!!! 💜

By the time im 20, my dad will be almost 70 and my mum would be around 60 (im a late kid) and that honestly kinda hurts. My dad isnt the best person but i still love him. Knowing that by the time i might marry, theres a very good chance my parents could be gone. One of my biggest fears is losing someone i really love without having an incredibly special memory or saying ‘i love you’ to them one final time. I dont like to think about the future, but its still really sad and something i will have to think about soon.

In South Africa we have a version of these called koeksisters, which translates roughly to cake sisters. But we don't coat them in suger, they get marinated after frying them in like a sweet sugery syrup. I love them, their like a childhood snack dad would always get on the way home from work for us.

Mmmmm this donut looks Devine. Joanne talk about anything on your heart and remember no explanation needed. We cherish our parents because when they are they for you they become a big part of you. God bless you and your family.

Recognizing the abuse my parents grew up in truly gave me the ability to forgive them for their missteps and recognize the ways they worked to be better. Am I still living with trauma they are responsible for? Yeah. Can I ever really expect them to realize the impact of that trauma on me? Not sure.

I’m turning 32 soon, I lost my father when I was 11. I would do anything to have those 11 years back, as many times as I could. Because of this, I love listening to all of your familial stories, but especially the ones involving your father.

It's actually very inspiring to see you talk about your dad. I have so many regrets and one of them includes not appreciating everything my family does for me and most important of all, my parents. Thank you for sharing your stories with us, they never get old ❤️

i love the way you talk about your dad. you articulate every single story so incredibly well its like we're there with you as its unfolding. i didnt get to grow up with a very good dad, but your videos do a pretty good job of showing what it might have been like if i did. i hope your dad knows how many people think he's awesome.

Those look a lot like a South African desert called Koeksisters! I always force my mother to make them for me since I haven't learned how to yet. The difference is that we braid it and put syrup as the topping :D

I genuinely enjoy when she talks about her father (not the stories that involve her grandfather as much, it's sadly triggering) she's very mature about the subject and is able to put in words her emotions and any regrets or hopes she has not only for him but herself and her culture and the future of her family

Your understanding of your father’s past is inspiring. I am glad that you were able to learn about his upbringing, some of our parents refuse to talk about the subject much at all.

It's amazing to see the difference being surrounded by good and loving people makes, even when one comes from an abusive or otherwise unfortunate situation. Be kind and generous to others because you never know what they've been through... you very may well be a positive influence that helps to change their perspective on life. -Emma

I had the greatest Father in the world & I knew it every moment of my life. He's been gone a little over 2 yrs & trust me when I say 100 lifetimes wouldn't be enough. I'm proud of you for treating your Father so wonderful. Enjoy every second. Your content is so lovely. Be well always. ♥️♥️

Both of my parents were abusive, I as the oldest was the target almost always.
