For those who need smaller clothes (slim or vertically challenged!) sure! If you have a larger frame, you would probably be better off with a larger size for three months. For example, this suits me fine but my husband prefers at least a 70L rucksack.

What do you do with the back system cover when using as a backpack?
You roll it up underneath itself and pop it under the "hood," so to speak. It's not a problem.

Not for most European airlines, no. Maybe in the US where there seems to be more generous allowances?
