I love this pack. I had the original Venture Ready Pack and the design was great, but this version 2 elevates it further with improved materials (especially on the shoulder straps) and other refinements. Highly recommended
When I saw that you were reviewing a sponsor's product, I thought it odd for this channel, but I am glad I watched the full video. You explained everything very well and didn't waste any time. I have two 20L day packs, which I keep ready to go. Comparing my use to yours was interesting, and I think this video would be useful for anyone planning a trip. Well done. The featured bag looks excellent and would suit my use, though perhaps not my budget.
Love this bag. I use it as a lightweight EDC when home, and, when traveling, I will flat pack empty in a suitcase for use when I get to where I’m going. I do not, however, use it as a primary travel backpack. My flight pack is usually a 24L+ pack by Aer or EVERGOODS.
I do love the look of the Bellroy, and I have their sling, but the price of this one is a little on the high side. I have a £20 decathlon bag and it is actually amazing in terms of features - from the pass through to the clamshell opening. It just looks “a bit shite”. Would love a comparison (and that might be a nice answer to those who are saying you’re shillin for the brands)
Never having used a 20L backpack, I just bought the cheapest one I could find - 34 euros online by Skysper - with the thought that I could buy a better one once I knew what I was looking for. I've been using it almost every day for over a year and it still does everything I need. Normally I'm the sort of person who opts for a premium product but I'd struggle to justify this sort of upgrade.
Thank you for your review, you actually raised my interest on this backpack. The only thing, in Minute 2:19 you list dimensions as 480x260x100 mm, but bellroy says 510 × 330 × 140 mm, not sure where the difference comes from. Thank you for measuring it.
Bag looks great, thanks for sharing. I have found Mountain Warehouse backpacks to be really good value over the years for anyone who wants something less expensive.
i like the bellroy backpacks except the straps never hold. if you keep anything in the backpack then you constantly need to tighten them as they keep slipping. So I will probably not buy them again. I use them for most other things.
Funny how nobody ever says this in reviews I've seen😅. All I see are people recommending this bag and yet I bought a sling once and regretted it- hype over function
@@smaaolots of people have said this… packhacker, chase reeves, Danny packs and others. It’s an issue with materials they’ve addressed over the last two years
@@JonGadget I thought I did something wrong so I tried jamming the strap keepers into the buckle. But later learned that many others also have this issue. I still love it though, but it is frustrating.
This is an issue that occured earlier with Bellroy straps but they have improved the buckles and are not slipping anymore. I myself had earlier version of buckles of now retired Bellroy venture backpack and solved it with Sea to summit Field Repair buckles.
Great review, good presentation style and I’ll be checking out the other videos. I have to disagree with the overall summary of the bag though as I’ve just not enjoyed my experience with it and ended up replacing it with a Peak Design back pack. Don’t get me wrong, the features on the Bellroy were nice but it was the lack of structure of the bag and the main opening compartment that I just couldn’t get along with. I hated the fact that it wouldn’t stand up in order to access the main compartment as it wasn’t rigid enough, and just kept flopping. I also found it uncomfortable to wear, the position of the pack was too low on my back and struggled to have it higher up on my shoulders due to the straps.
It is - worth pointing out that it's the same amount of work to make the bigger version with only a small additional material cost - so will never be a value statement
@@JonGadget I’ll probably continue using my existing Matador or my 20L Osprey for a while before considering this Bellroy bag. I’ll be making new videos for my upcoming trips soon. Jon, your channel has always been my inspiration to travel light 😊
I think if I had seen this, I might not have bought the Kånken Nr2. This reminds me of the Osprey Arcane Duffel but in a more compact underseat size & with some rather snazzy bells & whistles. Really nice backpack!!! Have a wee bit of envy… but also pleased with minimalist Kånken Nr 2 which works well for how we travel too.
Cost seems high, but the value is in the design and functionality. That’s a price I’d pay considering my fave backpacks work for 10+ yrs, and I have an eagle creek bag over 30 yrs in use. So quality matters. I’m gonna get one of these. Let’s see if it’s a good bag. Ask me in ten years.
Hi, i took a new job where i have to travel ragulary (at least once a month) all over the world. I never traveled outside of Europe before and now i am going to overseas for 10 days at time all the time. Your videos have good tips and ideas in them and will hopefully help a lot :D
Managed to get the 26L version in the last $155 sale, for the non luggage strap version, and it’s been honestly great so far. Really wanted the orange color, but wasn’t available, so I got the navy blue one. It’s become my do everything backpack now. Work, gym, overnight and weekend stays occasionally. It’s not perfect of course. The main compartment zipper is still sticky/stiff, especially near the area where to top pocket flops down. It’s odd because the top one is silky smooth. Also the lack of some organization in the side pocket is noticeable. And yea, the price is quite high. Overall I’m very pleased with it.
I’m sorry, I think what I wrote and how I wrote it might’ve come across wrong, my bad. What I meant is that I agree with what you’re saying in the video, and used my experience with my bag as an example to support your points, since they’re basically the same, just different sizes.

Dear Jon I agree with your philosophy of bag features that you look for bags and thanks for opening me world of carry related goods back when you did Bellory Workpack review. What a great review! Thank you. I have been looking at Bellroy and with your attention to detail I saw the attention to detail on them and with their lightweight design, it really suits my style for travelling in Greece !
Looks like a great, really useful bag. Would be super interested in seeing comparisons between a bag at say £50, £100 and this one. I’ve always understood value to be satisfaction minus price so for this to represent any value for me I’d need it to fully satisfy me in ways I don’t believe a backpack could manage.
Thanks for the feedback - good suggestion - there will be stronger value propositions I'm sure of that - but if I ignore the price what would I grab given the choice? This would be my bet right now (hence best small backpack and not best vale small backpack)

I appreciate the comment - all I would say is that there was no brief or content involvement from Bellroy at any stage and as mentioned Bellroy came on board after I had bought and tested the pack. I will do a long term follow up at some point which will highlight things I don't like.
Need to replace a bag while in Thailand, will have to order. Would it be possible to put an iPad Pro, 35mm Nikon camera, a pair of size 11 running shoes?
At the moment I am using the Helikon-Tex EDC backpack with TT Mesh Pouch Set and my beloved Maxpedition AGR CAP. But I also want to have a backpack again that has lots of pockets and just looks good and is well made. I like the Bellroy, I just have to think about whether a 20L is worth that much money. Thanks for this very orange video.
I am looking for a backpack that can be used for light travel / going to gym and carrying the work gear (laptop, cables etc). This looks like a good option as internal pockets actually look usable. What would be worthy alternatives?
There is a raft of choice at this size - Bellroy is at the high end price-wise for the reasons shown - I also like Able Carry so check them out and for inspiration have a look at the YT channel www.youtube.com/@Nomads.Nation - he does a great job.
Osprey Daylite Plus - if you carry a laptop now and then, the sleeve is fine. If you carry a laptop every day, Mous Every Day Pack - looks good, well made, well priced.
is there something similar (in size etc) but more reasonable pricing? 100 - 150 ish? still carrying a nameless backpack for over 10 years, refuses to break, but its a bit wornout now lol. function: walk / hike / groceries etc. cheers!
Looks great. What there are no contents in the bag, how thin is it. I’m looking for a bag to keep in a campervan and pull it out when I need it. Thanks.
I have been traveling with a 30 dollar 40 Ltr backpack from Temu for the last two years and it has held up fine, what is the value prop for this at all?
Thule any day. $99 (130 after inflation today). Has held up 4 years running working 12 hour days in New York City and college semesters. (I am not a sponsor)
I see people whinging about the price obviously haven’t heard about Goruck or Evergoods which this bag is competing with. I have this bag in the larger version and the straps suck, to thin and it hurts my shoulders when packed out, the bag itself it’s great.
Another thoroughly interesting review. I love the gear you come across, its not like I'd find it anywhere else without making a business out of looking for it, so I really look forward to your reviews. Cheers 🥂👋
Thank you for reviewing this bag ! Do you know if the shoulder straps are thicker than the ones on the Transit Workpack 20 L from Bellroy ? I find them quite uncomfortable because they are too thin.
Great Review! Mine is now on the way... Im usually a Peak Design guy.. I'm taking the chance.. Also trying to get out of the everything black mode.. I'm off for a 10 day drip and plan it to be my most minimilst voyage. Thanks again.. BTW Im looking for a square rectangular water bottle perhaps with a curve.. Any ideas?
I have a twitch in my left eye and the studio lights make it worse so I am trying tinted lenses to reduce brightness - but I want to avoid dark glasses which I did try on an earlier video and it wasn't a good look!!
Hey Jon! Love the channel mate. So much so that my partner now knows your voice, so she knows EXACTLY when I’m brewing over a possible purchase 😂 r.e the backpack, looks lovely. I’ve had a bellroy bag in the past, and used several other products with zero issues. This one would be the most expensive, but I’m struggling to find an alternative to suit my very fussy/particular needs!! I wanted to ask how durable you feel the material is? I always hang my packs with a hero clip where possible, but sometimes I do have to put them down. I don’t want to baby my gear too much! In your opinion will the material hold up? Especially travelling etc.. thanks Jon!
Hi Nate, thanks for the comment which is appreciated. Durability with this fabric is very good, Bellroy have been using this for sometime now on their Venture range, it's definitely not flimsy and made I think from recycled plastic bottles. It's not a cheap option but at this size I haven't found one I like more.
Nice backpack, but the pricetag is rather hefty. Gonna stick to my 5.11 Rush 24 which has been serving me well for 12 years already. It is super heavy though.
Hello Jon. Great review as always. 👍🏻 I’m intrigued by this backpack probably since I’m always looking out for something better than what I have. 😊 Question: Do you find this backpack to be unbalanced if you have a full water bottle on one side with a passport and other lighter weight items on the other side? Would appear to be unbalanced in this scenario. Cheers. 👋🏻
That's a good point but something I never thought about in use which I guess answers the question - it's not a wide bag so that will help minimise any off-centre force
Great, informative video. Personally, would be a pass from me, however. I couldn’t justify paying north of £200 for a smallish backpack.. many can and will I’m sure though :)
you always get better perceived value with a bigger pack because it generally takes the same amount of work to make both and material cost difference is minimal - hence small cost difference for 26L version
@@JonGadget Yeah that’s a very good point. And I guess value depends on each person. Many things I’ve raved about and others have been like “why on earth did you pay that!?”. Thanks again!
I'd want some kind of internal frame like my Osprey daysack has to keep the rucksack off your back and give some ventilation. Packs like this make you incredibly sweaty.
I would see that application as for more serious outdoor trekking - for general use frames and straps everywhere don't really do it for me and at 20L and for a pack that weighs just 850g this worked fine for me even in 30 degree heat.
I love your reviews, but the price is too high for a 20l backpack. Consider also that the size doesn't respect the Ryanair policies for under seat backpack (40x20x25 cm)! Maybe a backpack with this size could be one topic for one of your next review. Cheers. P.S. it seems that there is no RFID protection pockets. It is insane for that price!!
Wouldn't your gear be at heightened risk up that top pocket from thieves and pickpockets though? They seem to be quite expert at opening and taking from pockets like this on bags, anything outwardly facing is a risk surely?
It’s worth it though. Belroy stuff is always top quality and will last way better than cheaper bags. I don’t have this bag but several of their older ones and they are really worth it.
I really enjoy your videos Jon but I wish you'd mentioned the price at the beginning so I could save myself 15 minutes. Even with the discount this is ridiculously overpriced
If you check out the chapters it shows where the price is covered so you can jump straight to that. I find the price is comparable to other great packs - but if you want something cheaper there are lots of options.

function: walk / hike / groceries etc.
cheers!
Thanks Jon I liked it, but I prefer peak design backpacks. In this one Bellroy already copied some solutions of PD.
Great to have so much choice of good stuff
Aren’t those super heavy? I’m looking more towards the CPL16
@@mr_red13 Yup they're heavy, but they have plenty of nice features
such a great review. thanks for posting.
Would you choose the 20L over the 26L for one bag travel
Another excellent review! Why is it I want to purchase this when I have absolutely no need for it??!!! Another quality gear item.
Thank you 🙏 👍
275 Euro at Amazon. 🤦🤣
What a bargain lol
Get a few Osprey packs for that.
Life time warranty included...
Dame dos!!
Thule any day. $99 (130 after inflation today). Has held up 4 years running working 12 hour days in New York City and college semesters. (I am not a sponsor)
I just bought one, same colour too
I hope you like it as much as I do 👍
Excellent. As always..
Thank you.
Great job!
Nice 116710 - got the same
I see people whinging about the price obviously haven’t heard about Goruck or Evergoods which this bag is competing with. I have this bag in the larger version and the straps suck, to thin and it hurts my shoulders when packed out, the bag itself it’s great.
Good feedback - I want to compare the 26L sometime with what else is out there - there is more competition at the travel end!
Another thoroughly interesting review. I love the gear you come across, its not like I'd find it anywhere else without making a business out of looking for it, so I really look forward to your reviews. Cheers 🥂👋
Thank you! Love this review and backpack!!!
Thanks for watching!
Does this rucksack stand up or fall over when placed on the ground?
Amazing packer, SIr. Almost any contingency covered (no Glock).
😊
Thank you for reviewing this bag ! Do you know if the shoulder straps are thicker than the ones on the Transit Workpack 20 L from Bellroy ? I find them quite uncomfortable because they are too thin.
They are a lot more substantial - a couple of mm thicker and the padding is more dense and the construction is much better.
@@JonGadget Thanks a lot for your reply. I just ordered it (by using your discount) !
@@JonGadget Just received it. They are quite thicker, yes. 7,5mm VS 11mm. Much more comfortable !
Hi Jon what would you say how are shoulder straps compared to your older Transit Workpack?
Great Review! Mine is now on the way... Im usually a Peak Design guy.. I'm taking the chance.. Also trying to get out of the everything black mode.. I'm off for a 10 day drip and plan it to be my most minimilst voyage. Thanks again.. BTW Im looking for a square rectangular water bottle perhaps with a curve.. Any ideas?
색상도 좋고~ 생김새도 맘에 들고, 기능성 주머니등등 하나 사고 싶을정도!
특히 내부에 에어태그 장착이 가능한 숨겨진 주머니는 최고!
사야하나! 👀
I always love these videos. Will you be explaining the yellow lenses in your glasses? Looking forward to the first aid kits reviews.
I have a twitch in my left eye and the studio lights make it worse so I am trying tinted lenses to reduce brightness - but I want to avoid dark glasses which I did try on an earlier video and it wasn't a good look!!
Try a magnesium supplement. It might help.
Top quality and top price. Win/win or win/lose? Depends on the eye of the beholder.
Thanks for video.
Unfortunately, as is always the case, the Amazon links don't work. I just get a blank screen.
Definitely looks very useful and well thought out, but it seems a bit too pricey for me.
It is a premium product
@@JonGadget Indeed it is, but my budget isn't quite so premium 😄
@@JonGadget thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Pack is on the way! Also huge thanks for the discount code!!
Nice backpack, but the pricetag is rather hefty. Gonna stick to my 5.11 Rush 24 which has been serving me well for 12 years already. It is super heavy though.
I am between this one and the work version, any advice
I had no idea about the hidden AirTag spot in the Bellroy tag... ha ha!
Hello Jon. Great review as always. 👍🏻
I’m intrigued by this backpack probably since I’m always looking out for something better than what I have. 😊
Question: Do you find this backpack to be unbalanced if you have a full water bottle on one side with a passport and other lighter weight items on the other side? Would appear to be unbalanced in this scenario. Cheers. 👋🏻
That's a good point but something I never thought about in use which I guess answers the question - it's not a wide bag so that will help minimise any off-centre force
Great review
Optimal ☝️❣️ Thanks
Great, informative video. Personally, would be a pass from me, however. I couldn’t justify paying north of £200 for a smallish backpack.. many can and will I’m sure though :)
you always get better perceived value with a bigger pack because it generally takes the same amount of work to make both and material cost difference is minimal - hence small cost difference for 26L version
@@JonGadget Yeah that’s a very good point. And I guess value depends on each person. Many things I’ve raved about and others have been like “why on earth did you pay that!?”. Thanks again!
yes - it's a very personal choice and I am lucky enough to be able to focus more on what works for me than the cost for that
Where in Crete were you staying? It looks very much like Elounda?
Reminds me of an ogio fuze with better straps
A Yachtmaster and Submariner - nice
I'd want some kind of internal frame like my Osprey daysack has to keep the rucksack off your back and give some ventilation. Packs like this make you incredibly sweaty.
I would see that application as for more serious outdoor trekking - for general use frames and straps everywhere don't really do it for me and at 20L and for a pack that weighs just 850g this worked fine for me even in 30 degree heat.
@@JonGadget I can’t seem to add a photo but check out the osprey Hikelite 18 to get an idea of what I mean.
I bought the tiburon from maxpedition, in this pricerange it is the beter choise in my opinion
horses for courses for sure
I love your reviews, but the price is too high for a 20l backpack. Consider also that the size doesn't respect the Ryanair policies for under seat backpack (40x20x25 cm)! Maybe a backpack with this size could be one topic for one of your next review.
Cheers.
P.S. it seems that there is no RFID protection pockets. It is insane for that price!!
Have they updated the tech? The first version 26l failed the rain test 😢
I've not had it in heavy rain but it won't perform like X-Pac or PU coating for sure
Wouldn't your gear be at heightened risk up that top pocket from thieves and pickpockets though? They seem to be quite expert at opening and taking from pockets like this on bags, anything outwardly facing is a risk surely?
The PU zippers make it harder to sneak in (stiffer in use) and the paracord zip pulls can be tied or locked to deter thief
Anyone know what light he clipped on when he was talking about bikers?
Bellroy can be very hit or miss.... but their backpacks are pretty solid - I own two!
Whilst Jon's picks are good, I like his mate's choices that are, let's say, more competitively priced.
You don’t have $330+ for a backpack???
Haha but this is a great review and in all seriousness, I wish I did have $330+ for a cool backpack like this.
The price is 249USD
Still a lot of money.
It’s worth it though. Belroy stuff is always top quality and will last way better than cheaper bags.
I don’t have this bag but several of their older ones and they are really worth it.
@@JonGadget$250 for a Bellroy. BAH!!!!
Super Sac ! mais sangle magnétique..(pacemaker) 😐 à voir le remplacement....
i’m sold
I wouldn’t worry about scrimping on weight if you’re packing that kettle!
good review
We haven't gotten there yet, but don't underestimate the life-saving potential of a simply tourniquet.
anyone here recommend their best laptop bag? maybe could carry a tablet too?
I really enjoy your videos Jon but I wish you'd mentioned the price at the beginning so I could save myself 15 minutes. Even with the discount this is ridiculously overpriced
If you check out the chapters it shows where the price is covered so you can jump straight to that. I find the price is comparable to other great packs - but if you want something cheaper there are lots of options.
