- Well…this is it. This is how it all ends. A true one of a kind era for Caltrain, the Caltrain we all know and love has come to an end. It's a bittersweet moment for all of us. Yeah the new Stadler KISS EMUs are truly the most modern, high tech piece of railroad equipment we have compared to anyone else in the United States, but the legacy and hardwork the F40s have endured their entire 40 years of service. But they'll be greatly missed in the railroad community, from railfans, enthusiasts and even Caltrain employees.
Here in this video, taken the evening of September 20th, 2024, the night the Caltrain F40s and Nippon Sharyo Gallery Cars make their final runs to San Francisco and San Jose, California, U.S.A. We got ourselves comfy at Caltrain's Menlo Park Station, anxiously waiting for the final few trains to arrive and depart. Other enthusiasts joined but you can feel the excitement but also to say goodbye. Farwell Caltrain F40s and Sharyos, you will be dearly missed by others and myself.

On the one hand, getting these EMUs is awesome!
On the other hand, saying goodbye to F40PHs is a very saddening prospect.
Tears rolled down my eyes watching this. I am happy to have ridden this and be part of the great history! ❤❤
I've grown up with these locos and cars. Its sad to see them out of service🫡farewell
Farewell f40s ❤😢 thank you for your service dedication to San Jose County and San Francisco County area great work nice catches those f40 2-cat
10:19 F40 with E bell
Yes 920, 921, and 922 were given E bells after their recent rebuild
Great video! Loved the ending narration
My wife rode one last weekend. Said it didn't feel like a real train. More like a fast version of light rail. I've been commuting on Caltrain 5 days a week for the last 5-6 years. Been riding these new ones here and there for the last month. Have to agree with her.
Give these F40s and the gallery bi-levels to Metra instead of being scrapped
We all know Metra LOVES EMD engines lol
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301and Metra has cars that are so old that they just need to go (I think some as old as 1940)
Kinda wondering where these are gonna go.
Actually the very last F40 run was with 909 leading and ran shortly after the clock and calendar switched to 9/21. You can see it on the Santa Clara railcam at 1:32 AM. Also, 908 later came back south and was seen at Santa Clara at 12:22 AM.
That farewell portion at the end was cool
Sad to see em go 🥲
Beautiful video. Sad day for the Peninsula.
Rip f40’s 900-919 don’t worry 920 921 and 922 will be alive still
RIP F40s😢
atleast it is 922, sad to see the F40 retire, my childhood was railfanning it.
Goodbye F40s😢
Cool train of Caltrain Amazing❤❤❤❤❤
Good luck JPBX F40s 🫡
Caltrain had better keep and maintain those F 40 s as a back up plan. California s power grid is on Life Support.
Good luck, Caltrain F40s! Farewell and Goodbye 👋!
OOOOH METRAAAAAAAA
What's happening with the bombardier bilevels and the MP36s?
9:02 🤙
Looks like we have one more old passenger train
Actually the F40 Caltrains didn’t go out they will still run from San Jose to gilroy but the EMU’s will run from San Jose to San Francisco I am lucky to live in Santa Clara county because the F40’s will still run from there to gilroy only
Daft Punk much?
