I remember when I told an older colleague at my second job that my tuition fees were £9,000 a year and she said "Bloody hell, that's how much my first house cost!"

Seems like every employer is just trying to catch someone who's temporarily embarrassed between better jobs, but won't leave for some reason

Love those stupid adds that say 25 - 30 year old refelected in the Salary, but the requirements show 20 years experience and knowledge in the must have catagory. 👀

Ooh ohh the one with the “drink problem face”: my boss hired a woman once that I (the trainer) would definitely have passed on. I have alcoholics in my family and she definitely had “the face”. She soon started nodding off in class, even sleeping with her head on the desk. One day she came staggering in reeking of alcohol and wearing the same clothes as the day before. Since this is the USA (no contract) and she was still in the probation period, they let her go. (If she had been employed for longer, they would have tried to refer her for treatment.) It was a shame because she would have been good at the job. That was a long time ago. I hope she found sobriety.

What differentiates a "drinking problem face" from just any other face? I've no clue

@@mememachine171 If you were around severe alcoholics, you’d know. There’s a “look”. Have you ever seen those posters of people before and after meth? It’s similar. (Edit: I don’t mean to say that all alcoholics are recognizable. It’s just that some have a certain look. I am not claiming that I can always tell.)

@@mememachine171 It's a "you know it when you see it" kind of deal. My family has several alcoholics and it's a very recognizable look.

@@mememachine171 Drooping face, very wrinkled for their age, often their face is very red, sometimes there are “veins” around their nose, forehead etc.
Definitely something you notice when you’ve been exposed to it in your life.

@@K7ZHK and then there's people with fucked up skin conditions that would appreciate to be considered just ugly and not an alcoholic on top

£24,000 not dollars, still a terrible wage some companies are offering in the UK.

£24k is unfortunately a standard starting wage for a lot of grad jobs. £70k is far more than what they majority of people are earning

I’ve had to find subtle ways to demonstrate I’m actually very strong active to employers cause if you’re not skinny enough to have visible muscles people assume you’re lazy and weak especially if you’re a woman. I had a job I cycled long distance to everyday and they knew I was regularly at the gym, I’m a martial artist and I spent every day off doing intense outdoor sports and they’d still act like I was an inactive layabout (they did a similar thing of ignoring my years of it experience and trusting a guy who was bluffing about understanding computers because he’s a man)

I was fine with the first one - disarmingly frank and fair points. Starts to go off the rails with the assumed drink problem and never recovers. Even the runner joke- in an ideal world no one would put that on their cv since it's irrelevant and no boss would comment on it for the purposes of evaluation for the same reason- otherwise funny.

    • @lanceknuth5300

The running thing is still worse because some people's faces are just quite round. I know a woman like that and she competed in track in high school just a few years back.
