Thanks to everyone who joined the live premiere - always a pleasure talking to you! Can’t wait to hear all your thoughts and theories! 😊⚡️🤘🏻
I've learned a lot about my musical gravitations, thanks to your explanations and musical breakdowns, thanks Nena 🙏🙏👑
OMFG greatest album of all time(the one that is covering your treasure chest Nina)❤
I did fairly well during the pandemic, and one important reason is that I discovered The Warning and the extraordinary community of their Army.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊🤘🏻⚡️
Pau initiates most of TW’s songs. She is very emotional and passionate. In an IG reel she told us that her favorite thing to do is cry. She likes to let her emotions out. She is lucky to have such a loving supportive family - otherwise she might not be as well put together in public.
Hey Dave! Wow, that is amazing that she is so open! I totally agree that her family is a huge protective factor in her mental health. Great comment!
Terrific video, Nena. Escapism is one of my favorite songs. In the line "draping mirrors again", I always took it literally that she's actually covering the mirror so she doesn't have to look at herself. And the heavy guitar after she sings "it's the hope that kills you" the second time sounds to me like someone spiraling out of control. Again, great video, Nena and maybe next time you can do Apologize. 😊👍♥️
Great point! It could be a literal meaning- very true! Also, I know what you mean, that part sounds Halloween-y 🎃🖤⚡️🤘🏻
@@psychologyofrock 😊
"Escapism" is my most favorite song from the new album. In many moments it reminds me musicly some Alice Cooper songs from the 70s (like "Steven" for example). And of course, the fact that they lyrically deals with psychological issues is something that piqued my interest from the first moment.
It's a shame that most people don't know The Warning or they have not realized how great they are.
I think that is quickly changing! :) By the way, I am a huge Alice Cooper fan and got to have a long conversation with him about 15 years ago! He's a remarkable and very kind human being!
Excapism is one of my favorite The Warning songs. It's a great song. imop
Totally agree 😊⚡️🤘🏻
Pau has always had a knack for writing lyrics that make you think she has experienced events that she has not, I think she just has a talent for interpreting what she see around her from the perspective of others, Black Holes is the perfect example of this as the story is about addiction but when she wrote it she was only 13 years old, She is empathic but able to compartmentalize to comunicate what is felt. .
Very true! A sign of true talent in writing and storytelling. But honestly, is there anything that woman can't do? :)
@@psychologyofrock sit still, other than that no.
😊
The more I listen to this album, the more it feels like one huge cathartic scream. DPA have repeatedly said that it reflects the chaos of their touring life as they were writing it. Their previous albums delved deeply into themes from the world and from books that moved them. As they pivot here towards their own experiences, it seems clear that song-writing became a way to release the tension of being so public. As the photos you use in your videos show, DPA have chosen to live incredibly public lives, and that clearly comes at a cost. I guess I’m glad that the very reason that they are so public, gives them a way to release some of the pent-up emotions that come along with it.
Yes! I talk about this a lot in the breakdown of 6 Feet Deep, which I think hints at all of this. Very insightful comment!
Thanks again Nena for another great analysis video of our 3 favorite women in rock.
The line "silence is to avoid" is the one that hit home the hardest for me. Just because you're trying to escape something doesn't mean quiet and escaping inwardly, I find my self trying to escape silence and thinking because it'll inevitably end up on something bad that I can't change. Which leads to increased depression. Anxiety feeds depression. Need to escape physically for anxiety reasons but fear to escape mentally, its a balancing act.
Yes, I completely agree, these things all feed into one another. I think this song hits home because its so relatable and real. But we always have to have hope. :) Thanks for attending the premiere today - always great chatting with you!
The Warning did state in an interview that it is about the Pandemic, but as so many of their songs you can interpret it many different ways. Love your Reaction about The Warning
Thanks so much! :)
I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis, Nena. I really appreciate how you select pics and clips that show them in a flattering light, which seems like fangirling in a positive way. 😘
Lol, that's a great way to put it! I choose the media for the clips carefully out of respect for these amazing artists. They deserve to be shown in a good light :) I appreciate your comment!
I, too, love Escapism - I have it #2 behind only Automatic Sun, it somehow pushed its way past HYCAD and Six Feet Deep. I think the lyric "it's the hope that kills you" is the best on the entire album.
Yes - a VERY powerful line!
Great analysis! I know you are an ADHD coach, so the following could be interesting for you.
You mentioned that Pau maybe knows something about psychology, I think you are right.
Pau said in a long interview (Spanish) that she was diagnosed with ADHD. She has to take medicine for life and she often visits her psychologist because that.
I have no idea how bad is ADHD, but perhaps she has gone through some dark places because that and she expressed her feelings with this marvelous song.
Wow! Pau and I have so much in common - we have the same personality type (ENFP) and I also have ADHD. Believe it or not, ADHD is also highly linked to creativity, which has perhaps has actually aided her in an artistic way, despite the struggles that come with having it. Someone had mentioned that she joked about it once, but I was curious if she had an actual diagnosis. Either way, she is an amazing person, and an incredibly expressive writer.
Do you have a link to that interview?
Yes also love the rawness as you worded it even though they said they really just wanted to have fun with this LP and it was also different for them being the first time working with other writers on these tracks. Great reaction and love how you dissected the song.
Thanks so much, Paul! I appreciate you being here!
Mirrors are also used as symbolic portals in sympathetic magic. The Protagonist figuratively jumps into her form of escapism for a little while, then finds she can’t escape…her escapism or doesn’t want to.
Have a good week, Miss Nena and love the shirt!
Great interpretation, Ronald! And thank you!
Escapism wasn't my favorite song at first but it took over pretty quickly I feel this song shows how beautiful Danys voice is
Yes, it really does! 😊⚡️🤘🏻
Thank you, Nina, for always providing us with such an insightful take on The Warning's music. Always very thought-provoking and crediting to their creative process. The photo and video content compilations are also always very good and flattering to the band. Again, excellent job!! 👌🏽 👏🏽💯 🤘🏽⚡️🤘🏽
Thanks so much, Conrad! Very glad you enjoyed!
Very interesting analysis of the song. Songs like this one, Black Holes and Breathe make me wonder what Pau has gone through in her life. You would think that coming from a family that helps and supports you in every way possible, that her life would be nothing sunshine and rainbows. But lyrics often suggest the opposite...a lot of pain in her young life.
Even though Pau said that this was her Halloween song, I would imagine that a themed video might have more of a ¨Día de Muertos¨ (Day of the Dead) look and feel to it.
Oooh, that would be fantastic! Every music video just gets more brilliant!
She went through very few of these things. She creates her lyrics from what she has read. Breathe is different though as it was written after losing a close friend.
@@v6jim2 Yeah, I now that Breathe come from the loss of a friend. But honestly, I don´t completely buy what she says about writing songs from what she has read. The lyrics are just too intense to be from someone that hasn´t gone through situations like that. But that´s ok, Pau has no obligation to disclose every little part of her life.
@@TheBigGiant_SpaceChiken that's what creative writers do. Take the movie Alien. It can totally scare the sh1t out of you. All dreamed up by the writers, none of which have ever had something like that sneek up on them in space.. Had a girlfriend who could just come up with totally believable stories from whole cloth. Took me years to really grasp how f$%ked up she was but God could she write. She, like Pau, could "feel" from others that she met or read about, change it around, and make you believe it. Wasn't just me - she had a trail of folks. I had a friend who had training warn me pretty quickly but like most guys my other head was doing my thinking for me. There is a fine line here of course. How do you use this power is the difference between creative and a second axis psych diagnosis.
@@v6jim2 Exactly. She wrote the song Amore by creating a back-story for a scene from the movie Ratatouille. The scene was maybe 6 seconds long but grabbed her attention. Such a creative mind.
Another great analysis Nina! Thanks!
Very glad you enjoyed! 😊⚡️🤘🏻
We Love Nena's videos!
Thanks so much, my friend! Any future requests?

Great analysis and I love your supporting/background slideshow. This has definitely become one of my favorites and with its dark and dissonant sound it needs to be used in a movie or tv show.
YES! Agree!
Escapism and Consume have become my two favortite tracks on KMF. Like so many of their songs, they grow on you the more you liesten to them. Nice analysis of this one Nena and can't wait for your reaction to Consume!
Yes! They are both great tracks. It's like they saved the best for last :)
A collection of Thank You's to Nena...

Thank you for taking the time to respond to our comments.
Thank you for your excellent delivery. Very professional, yet approachable at the same time.
Thank you for going to the effort to choose quality photographs for the slideshow.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you for appreciating The Warning.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, Craig! I appreciate your kind words. And I'm thankful to have found a community of music lovers in this channel! Viva The Warning! :)
Totally enjoy your analysis and breakdown of TW songs!! Thank you!
Thanks so much, Ted! I appreciate you being here! :)
To me Escapism seems like the culmination of titles of the other 9 songs. Reflecting on how they felt in them. All but two songs have deep emotional darkness . 6ft deep sounds dark from the title but is actually about overcoming long held emotions. Automatic Sun is basically a love song . Always interesting psychological concepts you bring Nina great video. Thank you !
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! Very happy you enjoyed the video!
Great analysis. This is the song I'm most drawn to on the album and relate to.
Hey Joe! I can see it! It's a VERY relatable song!
Sitting here in WNC internet just came back, was without power for 3 days, the hurricane hit us hard.
But my heartbreak was the Atlanta show being postponed.

@@psychologyofrock I live right in the middle of it. MY neighbors, my friends lost so much. My little cul-de-sac was somehow spared. Destruction all around us. I can't be anything but thankful.

Thanks so much, Paul! They have so many photos taken of them...there is a lot to choose from! :)
Thanks Nina. Your takes are always interesting. I love the heavy slow descending breakdown mid song🤘
Yes! So good!!! 😊⚡️
Another home run Nena! If you notice that unlike the other songs, the title is nowhere mentioned in the lyrics.🤘⚡
Great point! 😊⚡️
I get the sense of dichotomy with Escapism that TW give us with many of their songs. It's almost trying to justify pulling inwards to avoid the pain of reality, but at the same time the overall tenor of the song is a cry for help. Especially Pau's cry, and when Dany hits the same note with "I don't know what's real".
The early reactions from many was kind of mehh, but i think it's grown on most of us, especially in their live performances.
Your breakdowns are always fascinating....:)
Yes! Very well said! And I completely agree this song grows on you!!! Glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Yes, Pau's cries of frustration/anger/pain makes the song real for me. A bit surprised that this was not mentioned.
@@stevenseefeldt7273 The first time I heard it on the lyric video, it gave me chills and still does.
It immediately went to the top of the list of TW songs for me. (It's pretty crowded up there)
Pau has a knack of touching our deepest emotions.
Yes!!!!
Great stuff, really enjoyed hanging out with you, great analysis and very much how my thoughts are about this song, it’s been very helpful to me and helped me keep positive after the Pandemic and it’s after affects. So what’s next…….. 🌹
Thanks so much, Darrell! :) I think the next Warning analysis will be either Consume or Apologize, but any other requests?
@@psychologyofrock Consume is my favourite song on the album, I think it’s the naughtiness side of me 😁, being serious I like that it’s a statement that they’re no longer children!
I think the lyric was definitely intentional! 😊 it is a statement for sure!
You are both brilliant, and beautiful. Great songs are taken by “each” listener, and made their own through relatability. Everyone can identify with this one. 🤘❤️🕊

Thank you so much for your kind words 💛 and I completely agree - there can be layers of meaning, and any interpretation is valid if it resonates with us personally! 😊⚡️
As we used to say i the 60s, "Heavy Man".

Thanks for this analysis it was actually very helpful to me in a therapeutic way I didn't think I really related to the song all that well but your explanation of the lyrics nailed my difficulties right on the head
So glad to hear that, Bill! I appreciate you watching!
so interessant ... as usual!!!!!! thanks!!!
Very glad you enjoyed! :)
Thank you for your extended interpretation. I believe you are very much correct.
😊⚡️🤘🏻 very glad you enjoyed!
Again, a nice analysis, I enjoyed your video! I's astonishing how they write profound lyrics about topics that they not necessarily have experienced by themselves (Black Holes about addiction is an early example from their 1st album). These three sisters surely don't escape reality, waste time or withdraw, they act and take chances, they are very active, not passive. But they are empathetic and can understand other people with other issues. That's why they care so much abut their fans. In one of their last shows a female fan collapsed (heat, dehydrated or sth like that), Dany instantly stopped Evolve and asked to make space to help the fan, she made sure everyone is o.k. before playing again. Have you checked out Apologize? Another song worth an analysis I guess... Thanks and greetings! 👍🤘
Yes, agree with your thoughts! And I love Apologize - I will definitely get to that one soon! :)
I've been looking forward to this one! It's my jam! ⚡⚡⚡💓🔥💎🎯
I know I'll ❤ this already

Glad to hear it, Daniel! :)
As always, great analysis and very informative.👍
So glad you enjoyed!
Awesome video like always, I love this some, it’s definitely one of my favorites from this album. Even though it’s hard to pick favorites since it’s an amazing album. This song grew on me too. Love your analysis on this song and everything else. The Warning is definitely my favorite newer Band, I would say new band but they’ve been playing for almost 11yrs. I found them 3 in 2022 so my favorite new band by far. Looking forward to your analysis in Consume ♥️⚡️🤘🤘
Thanks so much! I found them right after they released Mayday, and I've been a huge fan ever since. Rock NEEDED The Warning! :)
@@psychologyofrock Rock definitely needed them.. Rock music being my favorite music and I mean all genre of rock music. Keep Me Fed deserves a grammy nod. Some kind of universal recognition. It's such a great concept album.
YESSSS!
Thank you so much for watching! :)
In times past people used to cover the mirrors when someone in the house passed away. I wonder if the line refers to feeling like a part of herself has died.
Oh!!! GREAT theory!
That’s still a traditional practice during the Jewish mourning period, with the purpose of not admiring oneself to distract from the loss. I have wondered if they might have gone to the shiva of someone they knew and stored that image away (Pau is noted for constantly collecting song ideas).
Nena, as always you hit the nail on the head. Intelligent lyrics make any good songs better and these ladies are years ahead of their age in their writing. Like the band on your shirt these ladies are touching all the bases. I regret that at my age I will probably not get to see how great they might be in another 20 to 30 years. I certainly will keep enjoying them for the time being.
Hey Ken! Yes, they are way beyond their years. Incredible to watch their rise. So well deserved! :)
The draping mirrors line … surely if you drape a mirror (ie put a sheet over it) you do it so you can’t see yourself, the real you, making it easier to disassociate etc.
Yes! Great point 😊🤘🏻⚡️
Love your analysis. I think you should also take into consideration that all of the songs on the Keep Me Feed album were written in collaboration with other writers. This was not the case for prior albums. I personally think the influence of these collaborators is evident in the recent album.
I think maybe more musically than lyrically, but I do see your point!
@@psychologyofrock Interesting. I find the influence to be more on the lyrical side.
I see a change there for sure, but I had the feeling it was more because of time constraints than outside influence. Some of these tracks were written in a day - that is not easy, and I think it forces you to be more concise and maybe a little more direct. Did the outside collaborators help with the lyrics? I thought it was just the music, but I could be wrong! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’m sure the co-writers had some involvement in lyrics, but there are many lyrical themes that connect back through all the past albums, particularly the addition themes.
*Nena, you should do a psychological look at The Warning's Burnout.* Not the song but with The Warning being overexposed. When is it too much. Even with this Warning Army fan that had jumped into this rabbit hole 6 years ago. Now I'm trying to find my *"Escapism"* out of this hole from my *"Warning Burnout".*
You mean more of like, burnout from a fan's perspective?
@@psychologyofrock- that and the burnout inflicted by the label themselves. We seen bands like The Warning being pushed by record labels into obscurity just as fast as the band rose. Just by being overexposed.
Do you feel like they are currently overexposed, or do you think it is just because we follow them and see all that they do?
The girls in fact said..."this album is more simple songs and not too much complicated, more fun and cheerful !! wovvv !!
😂 they can’t do simple… ⚡️⚡️⚡️
@@psychologyofrock Perhaps this really IS their idea of simple 🤔
They know that the world is not yet ready for the full extent of their power and intelligence. OK maybe I'm going overboard. But if I want to imagine that three beautiful women are going to save humanity using music that's what I'm going to do. For now. 😊
😊🤘🏻
🤘🤘Love your POV on these songs!
Thanks so much, William! So happy to have you at the channel! 😊⚡️🤘🏻
Ey, amiga.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Draping mirrors means to cover the mirrors.
Yes, I do think a literal interpretation is very valid!
Escapism took root in my head on the very first listen. There's something deeply disturbing about it. I've said elsewhere that I think this single song is more frightening than the entirety of Queen of the Murder Scene.
It is a powerful and yes, a little disturbing, song.
My neighbor called the police on me for playing “The Warning” to loud. They arrested him …🔥🤘
😊⚡️
Im top level Warning. PoR, please deep dive into Billy Squier. Billy Squier gorgeous, super huge 80s performer. I would love your takes on his realistic yet passionate songs.
Interesting request! I’ll look into it!
I think draping the mirrors means that she's covering up the mirror so she doesn't have to see herself in it and therefore, doesn't have to deal with what she's going through. Like looking in the mirror or mirroring, not wanting to deal with it and that way she's not reminded if they're covered up.
Yes! Well said! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
It's kind of funny - I spent many years in this "mode" as you described, and then one day just "popped". I said to myself, "To hell with this; I'm "sick and tired of being sick and tired".. and ever since that moment I have done pretty much the opposite of what this song describes. I dove head-first into the painful feelings, embraced them, and "swam" right through them. It's why their song "Marterio" has such an impact to me, because I *was* the person described in the song. I decided NOT to be... but it was my own decision. I don't know how many people can make that transition on their own, for sure. I suppose I was lucky I could, else I'd still be wallowing in that mire of self-depression and illusion to this day. I'm glad I was able to escape it on my own, but for those who can't... please seek help. Please...
Thank you so much for sharing, and I'm so glad you were able to work through this! I agree that getting support is essential when we aren't able to do it on our own.
The maturity and talent in their lyrics can be seen as far back as 2015 on their first EP, 'Escape the Mind'. They were only ages 10 through 15 when it was released, so they may have been even younger when they actually wrote the songs. Only 3 of the 5 songs are love songs, but none of those are the simple sappy 'girl loves boy' love songs you might expect from kids of that age. the other 2 are more philosophical (for lack of a better word) about struggles encountered when going through life. All 5 songs are, I think, mature for their age and show a real talent for writing songs beyond their years. If you haven't done so already, it would be interesting to make videos of these songs to talk about what you think of them. Their songs are usually started by Pau, and then finished as a group. I'm assuming that it was the same with these ones, so the lyrics may have been partly written by a child still in elementary school.
Yes, they are certainly wise beyond their years! :)
Hey There! :)
f Paulina continues writing these types of songs, in a few years they will give her the Nobel Prize for Literature like Bob Dylan.😂
She deserves it :)
What is really scary for me is that I live these lyrics and so many from this album. Escapism, Burnout, so many others along that vein and even from other albums. I can't seem to get to the hope and self confidence of Evolve and Survive.
There is no snark in this comment.
It sucks when the first time I heard Martirio, i took it as a personal insult..because it is so close to my reality.
Yup, they have some deeply personal lyrics when you have to get past your initial visceral reaction to enjoy the song.
Yes, I agree that their lyrics are very relatable. Sometimes we need to seek support to get ourselves out of feeling this way.
i think pau have two brains 😂
At least 😊🤘🏻
The tiniest atom or molecule of hope is...hope. And like nuclear reaction the smallest atom...
♥️
If this was written during the pandemic, I'm not sure it's not real helplessness, because the control of what a lot of people were allowed to do was taken from them, to lesser or greater degrees, depending on where you lived. For me, nothing really changed, because I'd been "locked down" since 2005, with migraines that could be really intense if I was out and about during the day. My social life had already been "reduced" to MMOs and long chats with my mom on various messengers over the years, that, if I missed, resulted in unexpected visits, to see if I was alright.
From my perspective, watching what the lockdowns did to people, I'd speculate that some of this could very well be bleeding into this song, and various other tracks. Taking that, and the De-Tour into consideration, it may be that some of that helplessness was very real.
Great thoughts here, Robert! Thanks so much for sharing!
❤❤❤
😊⚡️🤘🏻
Another factor here is the general isolation they’ve experienced growing up and having to meet the strict standards expected of them, and having to devote so much time to music. This is basically what S!ck is about, sort of a longing for the kind of teen misbehavior that was never an option.
Interesting point!
👍
😊⚡️
This is a Warning album that I *WILL NOT BE LOOKING FOR ANY HIDDEN MEANING* what so ever. *AND SHOULD YOU AS WELL.*
Here's why.
Not only Dany, Pau & Ale are all over the place explaining these songs, depending on the day & interviewer. *BUT FOR THE FACT THAT DANY, PAU & ALE* has stated themselves, multiple times. The label, going with Republic Records, wanted DPA to collaborate with outside writers for this album. We just don't know what the girls wanted to say. What the outsider writers had to say. And once Anton DeLost was hired to be the producer. What Republic told him to do. Since DeLost was originally hired just for a writer session. In which the label wanted a song written from each session.
That's why I'm not reading too much into these songs. Neither should anyone else.
Hey Kevin - they have talked briefly about what inspired the songs and their writing process for each, but I still feel that there is more to uncover in them. Even though these songs are somewhat a collaboration, I feel like the "soul" of the girls are still very present. Just my opinion :)
Nah. DPA are - and always have been - smart songwriters. They are listed as the primary songwriters on each & every track on KMF. Delost said himself in interviews that he was shocked at how laser-focused DPA are when it comes to writing. So while they did collaborate a ton, the songs are still - to use one of Pau's phrases - their brain babies. In several instances, DPA started writing these songs while touring for ERROR or before (as in the case of Escapism).
Even if some ideas came from collaborators, the sisters are very assertive. They pushed back hard on some things David Bendeth (OBD of the biggest names in rock production) wanted, at a time they were brand new to the label and in a weaker bargaining position. If the album is more commercially focused I believe that’s their goal as much as it is the label’s.
I wonder if their songwriting dynamic means that all three have had hands in the lyrics. There seems to be a common theme of what will kill you in this and Error. I love your Rush shirt - it’s seriously old.
Thanks so much :) It's a fav!
@@psychologyofrock I saw them in the dawn of time when John Rutsey was the drummer.
