Looking forward to this build series. Will you be building wheels? Or a pre built set. Would like to see a wheel build tutorial by you

Going to be using an existing wheelset on this build. I need to control expenses for a while due to a large project were working on. I was contemplating building a wheelset, but even with the 70% off DT 240 hubs just before planet cyclery closed, it still would have cost me more than just buying the same build form from lightbicycle. totally surprised me. I'll get around to a wheel build in the future though

Frame wrap is a labor intensive task. I’ve done it once. I have ocd and when the seams don’t line up, I get anxiety. Thanks for the video.

You SO hit the nail on the head with the OCD. I've applied MANY like these over the years, yet I still remember the first sticker I ever applied, which was on the right side fairing of a 1989 FZR1000, in September 1990. It was an ABSOLUTE disaster! And back then, they were STUPIDLY expensive, with every passing minute of applying, I sank more and more. There were so many bubbles, it literally looked like it was diseased. I tore it off, bought another kit and from that point on, OCD totally takes over when I apply them, and to this day, when I see something wrong, my heart slightly raises until I fix it.
Good to know I'm not the only one! 😉

Nice work! I wish all bikes just came pre-wrapped. If you're spending $6-12k on a bike, you shouldn't have immediately tear the bike down to do this as soon as you get the bike. Not to mention that there's a learning curve to doing this well, so the frame manufacturers will be much better at doing this.

The problem is if the manufactures add the tape to the bikes, then the $6-$12K bikes will turn into $10-$15K bikes 😁

@@zoubtube I'd expect they could do it for $100-$200

I bought a Stumperjumper S-Works frame in March and decided to buy Ride Wrap as I had applied "helicopter tape" (same stuff as Ride Wrap) many times to phones and tablets in the past. I did the rear triangle and stopped. It was way too time intensive and even though I paid for the most expensive version that was custom cut for my frame there were still many pieces that wouldn't fit without modification as they didn't take into account the rubber for the chain stay, etc. To really apply the one that they sent me you would have to completely dismantle the suspension to actually get it applied or else you're fighting a losing battle. Another UA-camr said it took her 16 or 18 hours to apply all the pieces to her SJ Evo (over a long period) and I believe it. I definitely wouldn't do it again even though I think it will protect the frame from small rock strikes, sticks, etc. I may give it another go after I have to pull the suspension apart to clean it but it will already have a lot of miles on it by then...

Also, don't beat yourself up over the video. I honestly don't know how else you could have done it and also make it so people would want to watch it. I think you covered it as well as it probably can be covered. The only suggestion I would give people attempting this is to have a hair dryer handy (but don't use the heat setting). Ride Wrap also recommends it on their videos and it definitely makes getting the edges to stay down a lot less frustrating as that is where a lot of the time is spent.

My preference is Invis over ridewrap, if I'm going to buy a kit. I've installed each multiple times on different bikes over the years, and Invis cuts their sheets enough to cover high-risk areas without making the sheets too large. It's much more manageable, imo. A part of me considered shipping my bike to invis so they have a V4s frame to make the stickers, but I ended up giving myself a good slap and went back to work 😁
By far, the majority of stickers I've applied to my buds bikes were with the Allstar tape. The stuff works great. It's by no means cheap, but It's easy to cut and shape, easy to apply and lasts a long time. As I mentioned in the video, for gloss frames, it only needs to be applied to key areas.
Thanks for the support btw. Its very much appreciated! 👍

@@Waremonger I had this whole vision of how I was going to make the video, and I messed it all up. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to do a close-up time-lapse with a gopro. What bugged me was that I suspected it was going to be an issue, but didn't do enough to make sure it wasn't. Still lots to learn with making these videos. Slowly but surely, we're making progress 👍

Removing a shock takes a couple of minutes...

I went with a 75% Ride Wrap kit when I did mine 2 years ago, and then I added some bits of this and that to cover certain other areas. Now that I've done job like this once I'll just order a full kit if/when I need to do it again, but do some reasearch on which kit might be better. As I had not done it before I personally struggled to find the best mix ratio for the additive solution that Ride Wrap supply with their kit. I at least felt it was a very thin window of what worked and what did not, but generally less is more. I've also understood now that a few bubbles here and there is no big deal. Mine disappeared after a short while so it shouldn't be a deal in my eyes. I do have a heat gun now that I'll have on standby for the future though, because it does depend on what temperature you're working in.
That said I do recommend wrapping any bike because it does slow down the aging of any bike. I see all the time a lot of people complaining on the paint finish on their new bike, and that's where some people just got to learn the hard way. The paint finish on my bike is good, but no paint is going to deal with the abuse a frame will get just from normal trail use and I personally just want the peace of mind of just simply using the bike without having to worry about touching this or that.
After 2 years use I can say that it does protect the finish very well and I haven't had to touch any of it since it was applied.

Without a doubt, properly wrapping a frame can be a PITA process for beginners. I started applying stickers to street bikes after wipe-outs for me and my friends. Back then, a set of stickers for just one faring was SUPER expensive. MANY hard lessons were learned, and fast, as each time really hurt our wallets. At least today, it's much cheaper, so if a job doesn't turn out well, you can always try again at a reasonable price.
Bubbles bug me, they remind me of the first sticker I ever applied, which was an absolute disaster. Since then, my OCD won't let me live with them. Yet for others, it doesn't bother them at all. More power to them, I say. I'm the one who should get his head examined 🥴
Though I do encourage people to cover a whole frame, for high-gloss frames, I believe a semi job is more than enough. A good quality modern frame will have a solid automotive paint on it, Which is really durable. They can easily be buffed to restore the finish. Scratch removers can be used on them as well. And, in the worst case, touch-up paint can be used. Matte finish paints, like on the frame in this video, not so much. SUPER finicky. Not really my preference, but not much of a choice in this case.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us👍

It took somewhere between 2 - 2.5 hours total. it was a bit over 3 hours from start to finish but I got stuck in a unexpected work call in between that latest a while

I'm not sure what the questions is. Can you ask it in a difference way? or ask it in your language so I can try and translate?
