Adding chimney damper will help prolong the burn a little bit and if you burn hard wood that will be better and keep the window clear good luck with it
I believe that if the little flame holes in the side that are letting the second burn air up are going underneath the great too it's probably like having the baffle wide open all the time which will burn up wood pretty quick I thought I saw fire in the little holes when we looked at the side of it on that video that I just watched earlier the little flame-shaped holes that would over oxygenate it. The air needs to come in and go out the secondary holes up above but not through the bottom grate You've got a front damper for the air for the bottom grate. I think the baffle you put in as a good idea, The air is supposed to come in through a little fire holes and be sealed off from the bottom grate and it heats inside that wall going up to those little holes at the top of the side plates to secondary burn
@mauriceupp9381 yes, that is how it works. Cold air always wants to go to hot so it sucks the cold air from the outside where those flames are goes in along, the super heated plates on the inside of the firebox then that hot air ignites the smoke and if you close off the main air intake enough, the secondary burn holes will burn from the top down, but the baffle is not sealed and neither is the bottom air intake, this is not an airtight stove. To make the secondary burn work, you have to mostly close off the bottom air intake and then it will secondary burn up top, but the baffle plate definitely changes the airflow a little bit there. It smokes more now than it did before. I was just trying to keep some more heat in the stove versus going up the chimney pipe, but I’m going to take that baffle out of there mainly because I need the extra room to stuff more wood in there. The baffle takes up space. I’ll see how it works with just the chimney damper and no baffle.
@crazyfeller5704 yes they are pretty tiny. I think if they were slightly bigger and made of thicker material they would be a lot better but these work fine for ice fishing chacks and stuff like that.
I'm still learning I'm just kind of repeating things that I've seen about them building these new wood stoves and how they work. The chimney draws the fire through back up around the baffle, and the secondary air holes should engage above the baffle
@mauriceupp9381 that’s not how my stove works because I was the one that put the baffle in it they don’t come with a baffle in them normally. My secondary air holes are lower than the baffle as seen in my video that shows the baffle in place.
Above the baffle and that should secondary burn the fire as it goes across the baffle and up the chimney which will heat the top of it still a lot and burn the excess gases. Sorry my shaky finger touch the arrow on the last comment and I didn't get to finish it.
I can barely hear you but the pictures are great but what I'd like to know is what are you doing with it I see that one thing in there and what about the fact that you filled it on the picture but I can't hear you
I ordered the Fireking damper for this exact reason, as well as their extension kit, as my tent's too tall for the included pipes. Aside: Hi, Hello fellow Albertan 👋. I've subscribed. Looking forward to watching your content.
@daniellepatenaude3016 Hi welcome to the channel. Ya I want to pull that baffle out of there and see how it is with justcthe chimney damper. The baffle takes up space so I can’t put as much firewood in now as before. What part of Alberta are you in and what tent do you have?
@@Indeewoods Ah that's good to know - putting in that baffle myself would not have been my strong-suit. Happy to hear the damper might do the job. I'm in the country east of good ol'Edmonton... @daniellepatenaude3016 right on I have friends out that way they seem to like it there. I’m in Hinton but spend my time in and around the mountains and foothills as often as I can. Yes hopefully the pipe damper does the trick. I lived in a rickety old motorhome witn a woodstove for 4 years and the stove I built never had a baffle plate yet it worked pretty good so here’s hoping the damper for the win then I can stuff more wood into that tiny stove lol
Update on the compressed fire logs. I saw a tent stove video the other day testing one fron Tractor Supply. Brand is Red Star Fuel. There are 3 in a pkg for 4.99. 6-7 lb logs. They are a rectangle, and 1 just barely fit in his small stove, but it fit. Some say they are hard to light, but he placed it on a small bed of coals, and it caught quick. It burned hot but not too hot. Seems like he got around 5 hours out of it. They have smaller ones, 6 to a pack for 6.49. If local store doesn't have them, you can order. Discount buying them in bulk. They are compressed wood and nothing else. I think I will try them. Lowe's has round ones but don't know anything on them. Have a good day!
I used those in my hot tent stove and I do not recommend. They get extremely hot and even with everything dampened down the whole firebox and two sections of stove pipe were glowing. I was terrified!!!! The stove I was using at the time was the winnerwell nomad medium tent stove. I bet it would burn this stove right up!
I'm considering picking one of these up but a chimney dampener is a big selling point for me and I looked up just getting a pipe section with dampener that comes as a 6cm diameter on amazon... is that stove pipe 6cm by any chance ? oh and a side note taping over those side holes with some aluminum foil tape you could probly get even better flow control from the front exhaust even without a chimney dampener ... maybe leave one open on each side or what ever seems to end up working... "just spit balling" ty for your info and input and time :D

@chrisgamache6245 what size/kind of trailer? The issue with these is they don’t burn much more than 3 hrs so hard to get a good nights sleep. They work good for somertime camping taking the chill off or an ice shack where you are awake and around to keep adding wood.
@tylermalmberg1163 no i didn’t. I was going to then my side by side needed repairs. I’ll make or buy one then post another video and probably some of it in action
i posted in a previous reply a link to the dampener :) i have yet to burn it out with the dampener i bought but im going to assume it just runs things smoother :)
i actually got to test it out burn it in last night... it made a huge difference in bringing the heat back down the pipe... warning though my friend let it fly open and red for to long when i went inside and it kinda welded to the next pipe so don't let it run way to hot to long or it may "stick" but you would have seen the red hot pipe a few times without it, it eliminates that and brings the heat back down and slows the burn time nicely
Just received my stove today the 16. $195 cnd. Open the door and remove the 2 side plates with 3 screws on each one. Reverse the platres so all those holes are now on the bottom instead of the top! U may have to Dremel longer slots on the 3 holes. Use flat washer and 5 mm longer screws. That's why its so hot on the pipe. Now the wood will burn from the bottom up! I'm in Alberta. Leave me your number. I did but don't see my comment.
After seeing your video that's why that pipe is getting so hot ! Because it's burning mostly from the top, because of all the holes those 2 plates have. I'm sure it will help, as for longer burns. I use birch and better woods

I like the little stove it has a lot of potential The baffle under the front door is what will make it burn longer

@@LoneCrowAdventures thanks for the heads up. When I try one, I will watch it extra close.
Doesn't the knob on the front of the ash catcher turn to activate a baffle?
@aphaileeja yes it opens and closes to give the stove more or less air but it can’t hold heat in like chimney damper/baffle.

Make sure the side plates are facing the same way but turn them 180 degrees. Also remove the back plate from the stove ( for access and visibility)
Interesting. Did you do this to stop the pipe from getting so hot? I imagine it would smoke a lot more having it burn from the bottom up.
After seeing your video that's why that pipe is getting so hot ! Because it's burning mostly from the top, because of all the holes those 2 plates have. I'm sure it will help, as for longer burns. I use birch and better woods
