    Thought-provoking.
I find it hard when I'm hoping for a conversation and the other person responds with a monologue. They talk about their job, trip to the supermarket, their accomplishments and their To-Do lists.
I feel guilty if I don't give my attention. if I try to change the subject, the other person either continues the lecture or, if a phone call, terminates the call. "I have to go. My cell phone battery is getting low."
It's especially hard if the person is a close, family member. You're chronically disappointed in the relationship but you also don't want to lose the relationship.

Maybe this video will help cope with this kind of communication behavior in others:

This video touched me deeply. I have been avoiding my whole career life to approach clients and been settled working way below my potential.

I'm glad to hear this was helpful. It is difficult, but very rewarding to face what we've been avoiding ✨

Some people derive meaning from avoidance, for example the more limited experiences I have the more meaning I can derive from the little that is left. It's a type of minimalism, not pursuing excess. Interestingly, if avoidance is one of my core values in life, the avoidance of avoidance would make my life less meaningful. :-)

Thanks for sharing that! Your thoughts on minimalism resonate with me. Excess, stress, acceleration syndrome, hustle culture - it all hurts our ability to perceive nuances.
From the outside it is actually hard to tell, if someone is driven by avoidance or by pursuing their values. Someone can be at home reading because they are pursuing a value or because they are avoiding something that they actually value, but there is some obstacle there in their inner world…
