Great review but you should also note in the description somewhere that the sounds are coming through an external output not the built speaker itself as it could confuse some people and be disappointed when they purchase it. Plus the keys make a lot of clattering noise
Thank you so much for this review! I'm a 71-year-old beginning pianist, and I'm going to be away from home (traveling internationally) a lot next year, so I'm looking for something that I can easily carry along to practice scales, chords, and so on. The Amazon reviews are pretty bad, but seeing it in action has made me decide to buy one. Of course it has its limitations, but at least that way I won't fall behind and lose all my finger memory. Thanks again!👍🏻
For portability and sound, this seems pretty good. I think the folding box seems to have greater longevity than the soft rollup keyboards. I am considering getting one. A great review as always! Thanks for reviewing it.
This is amazing for travellers ,I've had mini keys , roland Go , but stuck in hotels or friends homes for days & weeks they just don't work. & sounds ok . I've just watched reviews on other sites & all say it's playable , it will never replace a real piano , but for travel it's going to be an essential. How many gigging players fly then wait days for their piano to unpack . I guess handy for open mikes too . I'm sure I'll end up with one , when I start travelling again.
It sounds really useful for practising where there is no room for a 'proper' 88 keyboard ( or even storage for a 61!) I suspect you could use a replacement aftermarket sustain pedal if you also use a 1/4 " female to 1/8" male adaptor!
As someone who played as a kid on what I think was a 61 (or fewer) key snythesizer in school and later couldn't because it broke, I've been wondering if this is good for me to pick back up, more-so casually as a hobby than professionally. For my needs of playing music I like (Classical and Studio Ghibli type japanese music), this seems like the perfect starting point. Because even if I don't end up being good enough to justify a full Digital Piano, this is a low-cost investment for something that seems pretty good, sturdy and as far as I've heard, sounds good too. Plus, this is perfect for bringing to grandma's house for xmas music..too bad that'll have to be next year!
I just got one of these from Guitar Center and am very impressed with it! No it does not replace my amazing synths I have in my collection, but it does provide a great option when I am songwriting on the go with my laptop and need a full keyboard!! Really cool option for on the go songwriting sessions outside the studio! Well done!
the truth is that it has very good performance, both in sound quality and the number of voices and other aspects, taking into account that it is a portable piano. What has stunned me is that it can be connected to sound software, and it improves the quality a lot. I will be left wanting to try it and have one. 😄😄😄
3 yrs later your video is still relevant. (Best demo so far !). I bought the 49 key for my "cough cough" as WFH solution. To learn & practice piano on-line. Have it setup on a portable projector type stand facing a big screen tv/mini computer/wireless keyboard-mouse pad (Ain't technology great) Has made my WFH situation fun 😛. For me the solution for the mini jack, just get a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. I also run my BT HD through a cheap BT Tx/Rx solution sometimes. While the speakers aren't the greatest, they'll do for online learning in my case. I preferred this ovr the Alesis 49 (Doesn't have a sustain pedal option) Luv your channel Jeremy 🙏
Nice little device. This could be really helpful for music theory and harmony classes. Which I had this when I was studying languages at university and my piano remained at my parents’ home.
I'm going to guitar center to get one tonight! I'm very excited and my uncle said he'd give me lessons I'm so excited! My room is very small so I love how I can easily store this!
While it may not satisfy a true pianist, for anyone has only experienced typing on a computer keyboard and wants to use it to compose on the computer, the computer keyboard type keys could actually make it an easier transition. I love weighted, touch sensitive keys myself but for my son who knows no difference & who is a computer geek, It could really suit him.
I am a 77 year old granny who wants to play along with my son and some friends. I will travel to my son's house. They play guitar. My concern is the sound. Will i be drown out by the guitars? Can you connect this to bluetooth speakers or an amp to give it more sound? Otherwise, i think this is what i am looking for
Looking it wasn't a surprise coz we knew it is a portable foldable keyboard. But listening the sound it was boom wow.. at this tiny assembly.. sound of this level is really surprising and awesome. Loved it
It's pretty good if one has portability as main concern but the feel of a real piano that yamaha, roland, casio, etc mimic (obviously not portable) is the deal for me including several other factors like velocity sensitivity etc. Anyways good content man.
Does it matter a lot that the black keys are just so small, and does it really sound like a Steinway piano? I am I will to shop this piano. In some videos it sounds tinny. It sounds awesome to you. Fortunately, the sound can be amplified.
Fantastic! Wish I knew of this before buying my Casio. I’m just starting out and this would have been perfect! Small, easily can put it away and very easily installed (none that I have seen fokd into a box), pretty and cute, good sound, keys not completely flat like other portable pianos, just fantastic!!!
This sounds so much better than other reviews. Other reviews the keys are clicking, quite loud. Also is this the keyboard or are you hooked up to an app
Blackstar. Make a 61 keys (will compensate the additional size of a regular piano keys) and have a regular weighted or atleast touch sensitive piano keys.
I'm really glad you did a review on this folding keyboard. I came across one of these and wondered what it sounded like. Because the RA has spread to three more fingers on my left, the mini keys on my PSS-A50 are too small for my hands now. I'm in learning mode, so I like to take something with me. Thanks for doing a review on this. It's definitely compact..
Yup it's truly compact for 88 keys. Some compromises but it's to be expected. Yes, RA and trigger finger are issues for a number of m students - I teach many retirees - we have to manage it.
Hello Jeremy. Thanks for the review. Very helpful! I've bought a Yamaha keyboard based on your information a few years ago and now I've bought this one!
Got it today and was fairly surprised by the build quality at such a price but unfortunately, none of the keys were working so now I'm preparing to return. Shouldn't have expected too much from a Chinese product.
Do you believe that something like this will come in handy at office parties? The holiday season will be here soon, and this may come in handy for carol sing-alongs.
To be honest.. I prefer the Casio CT-S200 for a portable keyboard because the keys are not very flat not like the foldable keyboard. And it can be powered through batteries or through it's power adaptor, and doesn't have a internal battery that could overcharge some time not like the foldable keyboard.. But still.. it's only 61 keys and the foldable keyboard has 88 keys so.. they still both have their own pros and cons
Thanks for the video, Jeremy! The PIano sound is close to the real one (Especially at this price). WIsh to have this one in Black color. Unfortunately, this is not available here in nearby stores.
Imagine - You bring this onto one of those massive jumbo jets with "3 seat" wide rows. You could support it across the 3 seatback trays and play piano while flying!
Remarkable! Passable piano sound (the other sounds etc ranged from a 'just OK' to terrible) but the unit could be useful as an emergency device. Still, technically a surprising achievement. Can't find a price.
In some video's I miss a solid conclusion. Should I buy this? The sounds are great, but how does it feel/play? Are there any comptetitors that I should consider?
Hi, can you recommend (or make) a clip that showcase more of, if not all, the included accompaniments in these carry-on pianos, thank you. After hearing how all the styles you did try seem to use the same drum kit (which I admit sounded surprisingly good to me), I wanted to find out how it coped with styles that had brush kits or something a bit more "swingy" at least.
Hey Jeremy! Too bad I don’t have any social media such as FB and Insta! Hahaha! If there’s a good reason for me to use it, it’s more for praise and worship in a mini prayer group setting or just for carolling especially now that only 8 can gather and when a guitarist isn’t available! With this portable piano, no excuse for any student not to practice. Thanks for this video! It’s informative!
I played as a kid but when i moved my mother never got me any more lessons. I think she only took it so my dad wouldnt have it. My kids, almost grown want to get into music since forever and now I can. Got some books from the guitar, piano, and drums. I got a guitar from the pawn shop and plan on getting others. I was never the greatest but I played the viola love, the piano, the baritone, and sung in the choir. My fault family pretty much was musically inclined to some degree. all my kids have been either in the choir or the band at some point except for my oldest who is slightly autistic. She's the one who wants to play the piano and the drums.
Thanks for the review Jeremy! :D I was wondering how the keys feel compared to a CME X-Key or Yamaha PSS-50A / alternative models without touch sensitivity? Thank you for all your videos as always!
It has a built in metronome which is nice, and MIDI is helpful with computer based tutorials, but there is no mention of key velocity sensitivity. A keyboard must have key velocity sensitivity, especially for those learning piano. You need to play soft to loud by how quickly you press a key. This is vital for beginners as it helps learn techniques and subtle playing to loud dynamics. Keys that simply turn notes on/off with no dynamics from sensitivity will not teach the nuances needed for piano and most synthesizers. The keys are not full size. Again, this is not a good idea because switching back and forth between non-standard keys and standard keys on pianos and synthesizers will not help new students learn proper fingering, touch, feel, and sight reading to finding notes. In other words, it destroys/misaligns muscle memory which is one of the primary mechanics of playing keyboard instruments well. The keys are not weighted (feel) to anything close to a good piano or synthesizer. Most synthesizers (like my Yamaha DX7) do a good job of mimicking a true piano key touch and force (weight). Very high end synthesizers actually use wooden keys that are the same found on most pianos. Also, beginners only need a 61 key keyboard. 88 keys are mandatory only for some rare classical, jazz, and other works that simply can't be arranged for 61 keys. So 88 keys are "nice to have" but not needed for beginners. Say you are learning a concert Organ, does that mean you need 3 keyboard registers with 61 +/- keys on each at home? No, you dont need EVERYTHING for practice at home, and if you are on travel (where this keyboard "could" have been used), there is even less need for all 88 keys for such practice. The folding idea is nice, but if it doesnt have all the features I mentioned above, this is not a wise choice for beginners or even well seasoned virtuosos. It is just a nice toy.
Thank you for this review! It made me change my mind...I saved enough money and was planning to buy the roll up one(a bit cheaper than this) but I'm switching to saving my salary to buy this one instead of the silicon-type piano😁 Thanks for sharing this!👍😊 God bless you!
Is it really good for beginners? I'm looking some really portable piano like this one. Do you have any idea about alternatives or should I just chose this one?
OMG, I am so late to get your gift that is my bad luck because I am begging to learn panio and watching the video now! your review is very good thank you.
Do you have the price? That’s good on my Homedepot storage shed room,I got evicted last September but all is well, still thankful for all my blessings last 54 years.✌️🙏❤️ I would like to play “Love and Devotion”for my mom, first song I learned when she asked me to study piano years ago,1977.😁Love you mom!❤️
how feels like when you press the key? is it same as just piano or is it too easy to press it and low sensitive? Can easily play this? Thank you. By the way the sound's really nice.
Great review but you should also note in the description somewhere that the sounds are coming through an external output not the built speaker itself as it could confuse some people and be disappointed when they purchase it. Plus the keys make a lot of clattering noise

I got mine and I love it.
I took it with me on a riverboat cruise. Worked well.
Definitely a improvement on the roll up piano and actually not bad sounding at all it almost has a vintage sound
Roll-up piano is a.mess product
It sounds vintage because it's using samples from 90s Roland sound CanvasDevices
Just wait until u hear it irl
This is much better than the cloth like foldable piano
For portability and sound, this seems pretty good. I think the folding box seems to have greater longevity than the soft rollup keyboards. I am considering getting one. A great review as always! Thanks for reviewing it.
Better tactile response than roll-up.

OMG I NEED THIS PIANO NOW!!!! I WANT IT SO I CAN PRACTICE DURING ONLINE CLASSES
There is a new version, the CarryOn 88 touch, it has sensitive keys, which is very important for piano performance.
Wow i'm really surprised by its size , and its sound isn't that bad actually . Thx for the review 😊
This sounded surprisingly good compared to a lot of other portable boards I've heard
I just got one of these from Guitar Center and am very impressed with it! It sounds pretty darn good for being so lightweight and portable!
The songs you played are so beautiful. So even the piano is a affordable piano one, they are sound very good.
Thank you for your kind compliments.

Kudos to the marvelous engineers

This is the best review I've found on this particular foldable piano. So useful. Thank you. 😊 I'm going to buy this. ✨😝

Surprised me too for such a tiny package.
Great! I may go for this as a complete beginner to piano before I upgrade to the Casio CDP-S110!
easy enough to upgrade to a 1/4inch jack from a 3.5mm or vice versa. adaptors are common place to purchase in all electronic stores.
It's pretty good if one has portability as main concern but the feel of a real piano that yamaha, roland, casio, etc mimic (obviously not portable) is the deal for me including several other factors like velocity sensitivity etc.

Yup! It's always a compromise between price, portability and features.
I've ordered one can't wait to get my hands on it
Waiting for CME to come up with a foldable Xkey61 Xkey88 with velocity sensitive keys. :)
I seriously love you, Jeremy.
That is amazing! I'm sold!! They just need a plug for tiny amp!
Great! I Love How The 88 Portable Keyboard Look Like!

Hello Jeremy. Thanks for the review. Very helpful! I've bought a Yamaha keyboard based on your information a few years ago and now I've bought this one!

Some of the tones sound similar to the ones on the early '90s CASIO models.
