Brutally cold day. The last hurrah at home for LT and Simms. McMahon got brutally hit several times and a couple of those caused lasting damage. Madden makes a point about concussions and not letting players play through them after one of the McMahon hits that was way ahead of its time

This is awesome. This is the earliest Giants playoff game I actually remember watching (I was 6 years old). The last 5 minutes of the 1st half were nuts. I went crazy when the Vikings took the lead, then extended it to 10-3 at the half. But the Giants showed they were the better team in the second half. It was fun while it lasted.
without seeding priority for division winners, the Giants would have had the #2 seed in the NFC and a first round bye in 1993, which could have set up a battle between NFC East rivals in the CCG more easily as it happened, #6 Green Bay, in their first playoff appearance since 1982, and first with Brett Favre as QB, did defeat division rivals Detroit the day before this game this meant the winner of this game would go to San Francisco in the next round the Giants did win this game, but could not get past Steve Young and the 49ers, thus setting up the second of 3 49ers-Cowboys CCGs in a row only once did a team that should have had the #2 seed but did not because they didn't win their division met their top-seeded division rival in the CCG: 1999 Titans at Jaguars, which saw the Titans beat their rivals for the third time that season; Jacksonville beat everyone else on their schedule

Now on that 4th & 3 for Minnesota with 26 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, the Giants should have been called for unnecessary roughness on Jessie Armstead. The ball was already past Steve Jordan's hands when Armstead hit Jordan helmet-to-helmet. Nowadays of course, that probably would have been called.

McMahon? He's had problems with his vision all his life due to a childhood accident (it's also why he wears sunglasses in public so often) It's something of a miracle he played in the NFL at all, let alone won a SuperBowl
Giants had to kick off to start the game & Giants had to kick off again to start the 2nd half because at the coin toss to start the game, the Giants said they wanted to kick instead of saying the wanted to defer
That's because back then you couldn't defer in the NFL. If you won the toss you could either receive or kick. If you chose to kick you got to choose which way you wanted to kick [in other words you could pick what goal to defend]. To start the 3rd quarter the team that lost the toss got the same exact choice: to kick or receive.
Wait a minute The Giants kicked off to start the game...... Then they kicked off to start the second half?????? How is this possible. You see once again ...... This is WHYY a situation exists that totally really proves WHYY people have so many sufferings from the Nelson Mandela effect. And the reason I'm ranting so much is because I was certain there was a football video game I'd play where I'd sometimes either receive to start the game and at the start of the 2nd half.....or vice versa.....being I'd kick off to start the game and also kick off to start the second half.
It's because you don't know the rules that the NFL went by _at that time_ . . . for most of NFL history, there was _no option_ to defer if you won the toss. If you won the toss you could either receive or kick. Then the team that lost the toss would get the same choice to start the 2nd half.
I would rather watch these retro games than anything being played today. Good stuff👍

I watched this game live and remember getting sick of Madden dogging McMahon on his eyesight all game.
👍👍👍👍👍
Giants had to kick off to start the game & Giants had to kick off again to start the 2nd half because at the coin toss to start the game, the Giants said they wanted to kick instead of saying the wanted to defer
That's because back then you couldn't defer in the NFL. If you won the toss you could either receive or kick. If you chose to kick you got to choose which way you wanted to kick [in other words you could pick what goal to defend]. To start the 3rd quarter the team that lost the toss got the same exact choice: to kick or receive.
Nice Legal hit lol. Guy would get suspended now. 1:16:50
Wait a minute
The Giants kicked off to start the game......
