Other than the 1995 season, the Cowboys always had trouble scoring points and blowing out the Cardinals. Hell it wasn't until the 94 season where the Cowboys actually scored more than 21 points there later on. The games were always close.
Yeah, this was one of the NFL rivalries that always surprised me for some reason. The Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots from the late 80's & early 90's timeframe was another one that comes to mind. I remember that those games were always close and exciting as well despite their respective regular season records.
Emmitt Smith’s season debut. This was his first game of the season after holding out the entire training camp, preseason and the first 2 games of the season due to a contract dispute. Well he got his new contract and he came back for this game. Didn’t play alot in this game but his return sparked the Cowboys on their 2nd straight run towards a Super Bowl title.
He missed the first two games of the season, and only got 45 yards in this game, and still led the league in rushing with 1486 yards. That's amazing that he averaged over 106 yards a game that season and he proved he was worth every penny he got.
Once Emmitt signed his contract after being embarrassed on Monday night in week one versus Washington, and then beaten week two at home versus Buffalo. The Cowboys return to form rather quickly.

1:01:10 Derrick Ware dropped a pass. It happens. In my opinion Beuerlein was wrong for going off for so long in full view of the whole team. Then, after humiliating Ware, he decides to play peacemaker?

Don't ever compare their ball placement. Dak is a back up. Who would start for these teams Aikman or dak? Lol. Dak would hold this hof team back. He could never complete those passes to Irvin and harper with his spaghetti arm. 8 years still cant read a defense. Like he could ever put a WR in the HOF.
As far as skill goes, accuracy, arm strength, etc……Aikman in his prime(like in 93) blows away 90% of current NFL QBs. Definitely better than Dak, not even close.
The Dallas offense stalled without Emmitt Smith. They only scored 16 points against the Redskins, and 7 points against the Bills. They couldn't run so he had to pass much more than usual. That's why he only has 2 TDs in 45 attempts.
Emmit Smith's holdout was beyond selfish. He had to blackmail the team and jeopardize their SB repeat just because his ego demanded he be the highest paid RB in the NFL. The Cowboy coaches noticed he returned to the team with an arrogant, I got my way attitude in this game, having not stayed in shape for his return. The reason why Sanders made more was because Smith had the best offensive line in football, which cost $. Dallas could have repeated if they had simply traded Smith for the 3rd to 5th best RB in the league and a second player, a draft pick or money. It would have been bliss if they could have arranged such a trade with a lower tier team with no chance of reaching the playoffs, much less the SB.
Emmitt Smith knew his worth and wanted to be paid like it. So he held out, got paid, and came back to lead the league in rushing with 1486 yds, averaging more than 106 yards a game. Then he went on to lead the Cowboys to their 2nd SB win and become SB MVP. So he proved why he was worth every penny. You can't say he was good because of his offensive line, because that would mean Derrick Lassic would have torn it up when he played along with any other Emmitt backup, but none of them ever did.
@@davidruiz63 The Cowboy offensive line was significant in justifying the difference between Barry Sanders' pay and Emmitt's, not the same thing as claiming any RB could succeed behind it. Would Emmitt have averaged 106 yards behind an average line? Not a chance. Dallas' offensive beasts up front were markedly better than any unit Barry Sanders ever had, and what they deserved to be paid had to be factored into what was left over for Emmit.
