Its so odd in NZ the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross phev sold just 159 cars in November, however the BYD Sealion sold just 25! Why? I have no idea! But wow they are not selling well in NZ! As a comparison the very old and tired Toyota Rav4 AWD hybrid with an up to 6 month wait still managed to sell 1877 in November! I hope Australia does better in sales of the Sealion because getting beaten by over 120 units by the very old Eclipse Cross phev is very disappointing! Oh never mind I now know why brand new the Eclipse Cross phev is $45k for the top spec while in our market the Sealion starts at $58k! Its called phev dumping just like our EV market drop the price to move it and never sell them again
Interesting. NZ is a challenge. Maybe there were deals, lots more cars in stock… who knows. Sealion 6 has sold thousands since launch here. Australia’s most popular PHEV… until Shark comes!
@therightcar Yeah our EV market is a joke! The Tesla Model Y used to sell in the hundreds per month, November just 15! With just 6 Model 3! Although that is still better than zero BYD Seal sold in November! The used EV market is even worse! With just 13 used EV sold apart from the Japanese import Nissan Leaf that sold 70.
The Eclipse Cross lacks so much of the tech that the BYD has, so I don't get why they sell so well compared to the BYD. And yeah, the RAV's numbers of November was more than impressive. I think the Sealion just offers a lot more value, style and tech. The Rav almost seems stale in the style department. And the BYD offers more space between the A and B pillars and for us older folks, slightly easier to get in and out of. It just doesn't make sense that they're not selling in good numbers, cause it's a heck of a lot of car. Now I'm going to make absolutely no sense at all....even though I really like the Sealion, I've ordered the new CRV AWD Sports Premium. It was the comfort, space and drive difference that sold me on the Honda. And that 1.5 Turbo that doesn't need the more expensive juice to run on sure helps to. Lovely motor and a very elegant drive. Granted it doesn't come close to the AWD Sealion on power, and that where it doesn't make any sense that I've chosen the CRV over it. That fuel consumption is what my turbo diesel car does and that was half the price. If you mostly do short trips and can charge at home then it might be a great option.
No spare tire, no deal. By the way, when they first launched this vehicle, they advertised it as 574 liters, and then they apologized that it was 425 liters, not 574 liters. In my opinion, they should be fined by the consumer court. I know that many people bought it because it has a 574 liter trunk. They organized a misleading campaign. In many past review videos, they still advertise this tiny trunk as 574 liters.

Can you (auto journalists) please stop asking manufacturers to firm up car rides ? Because you collectively ruined most car rides for the rest of us! Driving at slow Australian speed limit there is not need for a firm sporty car!! All one would get from that is a sore back
Hahaha - it’s more to do with the obsession with big wheels and low profile tyres that designers insist upon than the suspension in a lot of situations! And look, I am a fan of comfy rides. The existing tune was just a bit TOO soft, with notable body roll that could cause car-sickness for some, thanks to Australia’s more challenging roads.

As much as I think this is a brilliant SUV I won’t buy one. The reason is that BYD have chosen not to set up a factory operation in Australia, rather they use a distributor (AP Eagers). The result of this is the worst new car warranty in Australia, very high service and parts costs, limited spares and tech support. I shudder to think what will happen if you have a warranty claim. When BYD decide they want to take our market seriously, I’ll take a look.
BYD have chosen not to set up a factory operation -- you must be joking. Almost 90% PHEV build in China. Australian made will cost at least 50% more. Australia is a very small market.
@@liuyangyang I'm not joking, BYD are not taking our market seriously so I'm not taking them seriously. When they ditch their distribution arrangement I'll take a look.
This is just my view you obviously have your own view, to me BYD have yet to show the AU market anything of substance to convince buyers that there cars will last 3 to 5 years of hard ownership, I know people that have purchased BYD based on the "sugar hit" and within 3 month regretted it and lost big money off loading them, now that is also true of most brands in the market place but the "China brigade" hits harder as most don't want to buy them as 2nd hand which means good luck with resale if you are an owner. The same happens to those who were fooled into buy Tesla on novated leases, they all took a bath in acid and yeah once burnt never burnt again.
Car is not an investment property, those people need to change their mindset when buying a car. If they want to save money on a car then only stick to second-hand market where the car has already fully depreciated, that is how you save money on a car.
Novated Leases for EVs are FBT exempt on all costs including finance costs, EVs also came with rebates for a time, still do in WA and in some states no stamp duty. If you are paying a high marginal tax rate it will be significantly cheaper than buying outright, especially if you negotiate the interest rate. Also interesting that you know many BYD owners who regretted their purchase after 3 months, I don't see virtually any in the comments section of videos I watch and I watch a lot, on the contrary people seem very satisified.
No it doesn’t. Consumers buy what is best for them. China is making cars that are better than the established players based on pricing and technology. Its simple. Make better stuff, achieve more sales.
@@therightcar Matt I had to thumbs down you for this comment. No one knows the longevity of the petrol engines also the electrics (not battery but the actual electrics), also you have to have the car services at MyCar (former KMart Auto) and yeah they are not known to be nice to customers.
@@onetwothreefour-s1n Not afraid of China at all, the issue here is that BYD and other China car manufactures have yet to show any market outside of China that there cars will old any value in 3 to 5 years time. Tried getting parts for a SIAC owned brand like MG or LDV? good luck with the wait times, same applies to BYD. If BYD were so serious about the AU market then they would not have come to our market via a 3rd party like EV Direct, to me that suggest they have no faith in their products.

It's like house insurance. 🤔I wouldn't be without it, same as a spare wheel. Both are extremely important when that occasion occurs.
@@buncha5651 sounds like something a boomer would say
I just looks like it is so 1970s styling
No spare tire, no deal.
By the way, when they first launched this vehicle, they advertised it as 574 liters, and then they apologized that it was 425 liters, not 574 liters. In my opinion, they should be fined by the consumer court. I know that many people bought it because it has a 574 liter trunk. They organized a misleading campaign. In many past review videos, they still advertise this tiny trunk as 574 liters.
FFS......TYRE, BOOT, LITRES. If you want to watch an Australian review, learn the bloody lingo.
@8Mikehunt Dude, I'm sorry, I speak 5 different languages. You've probably never used a single different language in your life. When you speak 5 different languages, you can misspell words that are common to most languages when you switch between languages. I'm sure my intelligence level is much higher than yours, even if I use the wrong words. You are the last person I would ask which video to watch or not hahaha

Such a shame that it is so bland on the exterior. They are getting closer to the mark though
I get it, a bit conservative design-wise.
Toyota made a killing from being bland.
🎉🎉 HA HYANDAI TUSCON 2024 HYBRIDS RULE 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Okay mate
Why?
@daweigo6851 BETTER VALUE PS EV CARS AND LITHIUM WITH BATTERY 400KG MIXED WITH WATER IS A BIG LEGAL BOMB HAAAAAAAAAAS
Im looking at getting this to tow my 900kg braked food truck around. Has anyone used the BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic to tow? How did it handle? How was the fuel efficiency
Thanks for the comment but why wouldn’t you just choose the Shark instead?
Proximity and number of dealerships and warranty period mean this might be out for me
Understandable. You gotta do what’s right for you!
I'm not interested in a plug-in as a regular hybrid is much easier, and no spare tyre is no deal.
Okay, buy a RAV4.
@@therightcar That is what he was hinting at, he probably already owns one.
Its just a pity the styling isn't a bit more aspirational..yeah its an SUV..but sooo generic.
It is maybe a bit too safe!
OK, try Fangchengbao, Denza and Yangwang. All from BYD. Or AITO M7 and M9.
The big question is did you get paid 4k for doing the review as Maric spews about 😂😂😂😂
I didn’t get paid anything to do anything. I get paid by UA-cam for working to create content.
I dunno what you’re talking about with Maric?
@@therightcar - the so called "Expert" was blabbering in bis Shark 6 video about ":influences" being paid to attend the BYD Broken Hill event. anyway funny thing is that people from CE were at the Broken Hill even that BYD ran but the "Expert" failed to mention that.
Everyone knows about INFLUENCERS being paid to attend the SHARK UTE launch ......
I mustn’t have been INFLUENTIAL enough to be considered 🤪🤪🤪
@therightcar 😂😂😂😂😂😂
But id still get Rav
I can understand that.
the CR-V is better tho
no spare wheel forget it imho
chinese here. byd service need special training and certificate due to high voltage in the car.
good idea to get training and make money from byd.
Haha yeah I guess
$80,000 for outlander, simple ridiculous....
Absurd.
When you're talking the tires. To what?
Swapping them? I’d get Michelin, Continental or Pirelli, personally.
I can understand that. It might be an issue, or it might not! Time will tell what happens with the brand here.
This will likely reflect in resale value as well... like with most EVs, you save on petrol, then lose 20k+ on resale...
@ Dude, I’m talking about distribution arrangements not manufacturing
I hear you mate. Investing in any new brand is a risk.
Car is not an investment property, those people need to change their mindset when buying a car. If they want to save money on a car then only stick to second-hand market where the car has already fully depreciated, that is how you save money on a car.
Cool story bro.
Also interesting that you know many BYD owners who regretted their purchase after 3 months, I don't see virtually any in the comments section of videos I watch and I watch a lot, on the contrary people seem very satisified.
shit warranty... gutless of them not to go unlimited km like other chinese cars
I wouldn’t say it’s shit. Mitsubishi doesn’t have unlimited…. Would you say the same about their warranty?
ugly wheel design, small boot size compared to similar sized cars, could be $5k cheaper, resale likely terrible.
Okay 👌 so what would you buy instead?
中国之外。有DMI 5.0了????
No, not yet only 4.0 so far
Yep only 4.0
China 🇨🇳 has the Australian 🇦🇺 motoring press in its pocket 🙄
I just hope and pray that the Australian public resists the urge to fall into the trap 🙏
@@therightcarCorrect. It's wild that people are so scared of china
@@351tgv Reflect on the chinese domestic market, the most competitive in the world. They sell 30 million vehicles a year and legacy brands are getting destroyed there, they are discounting 20/30/40% just to move stock.
Australian market, if it were to remain open to chinese automakers will see this trend within the next 5 years, its inevitable despite whatever cope the internet has to argue.
Electric cars - one of the greatest delusions of this era...
Well this isn’t electric, it’s electrified.
@therightcar Yep, you'll really enjoy pushing it home...
If people don't know the difference between a full EV and a petrol-electric hybrid by now ..... I am not going to tell them.
