    I’ve always liked Jackson Wang. Of course his Mandarin wasn’t perfect considering he’s from Hong Kong and speaks Cantonese. At the same time, he also speaks fluent English and Korean, and also speaks the language of music and dance, so he’s definitely multi-talented.

    what i love about jackson is even when he isn't 100 percent sure about something when speaking languages, he still goes for it. he's not afraid to learn from his mistakes. and he's so charismatic and naturally hilarious!

    I understand Jackson’s struggles with mixing Cantonese with Mandarin. I spent a number of years learning Canto and only last year switched to Mando. What trips me up is using the correct word in Mando, but with the Canto tone so, nope, it really isn’t the correct word after all. For words that are really close between the two languages this is currently the biggest problem. Also, I think I know the word in Mando, but I don’t and end up substituting a Canto word in a Mando sentence. I’ve had to stop listening to anything in Cantonese and only hear Mandarine to try and clear up this problem. A similar thing happened to me when I started learning Spanish after working extensively in French for two decades. For the first few years please, whenever I couldn’t remember a word in Spanish, out would come a word in French. But in many ways Cantonese and Mandarin are closer to each other, so there is even more room for confusion.

      Wow! you're really impressive! I mean, seems like you have learnt many languages. I'm a Spanish speaker from México and once I remember an interview with MIKA, he was so cute mixing Italian and Spanish so randomly because he was learning both languages at the same time, and no doubt there are plenty of similar words, though I find that mixing harder with French.

      when i speak cantonese, i do the same thing that jackson does. whenever I speak to cantonese people, it always comes out as a guess if I don't know the word. like 澳门 I just guess 奥 is pronounged "ngao" in cantonese, but it didn't really work. And also sometimes I can't tell whether a word is in spanish or french either, sometimes when I write french, its different. Speaking is definetely clear though, since its harder

    I LOVE Jackson! He's one of my favorites in K-POP (I'm Aghase) and I've been a fan of Team Wang for a minute. It's cool that he knows so many languages!
    I would also love to hear more about your dialect, Jessie! I'm learning Mandarin now but chatting with other people from China has made me curious about the different dialects and how they pronounce things in Mandarin.

    i liked Jackson in 这就是街舞! i was surprised that you didn't mention his cantonese background at the start with the teng/tong as that was my immediate thought... but then you mentioned it later with the colours. and yeah, like other people said, please have more kpop reactions, it'll be cool!

    Yes i also made the same mistake, I have a classmate whose last name is huang, I pronounce it wong, because i'm cantonese, I've fixed the pronouncation. I am also speaking english. I spoke cantonese with my mom and english with my siblings. Its very important to learn how to speak both. Problem is i know how to write some easy chinese characteristic like 中,你, 我, 他,他们,天。Jackson wang is also fluent in english, korea and thai..

    Chinese umlauted u is only similar to that in German. In Chinese you round your lips and pronounce it from the front of your mouth; whereas in German you pronounce umlauted u from your throat by constricting your throat. It's a very difficult sound to produce in German. They do sound similarly and German is the closest European language to Chinese followed by Russian. China in German is pronounced heena, and may be part of the perpetuation of Qin as the basis of the contemporary name for China rather than Han.
    In ancient Rome China/Chinese were called Serica/Seres. But I have no idea what clan or kingdom that was. Any guesses?

    • @QuizmasterLaw
      @QuizmasterLaw 2 роки тому +1

      @@musAKulture somewhat, because french U uses the back portion of the tongue, not just the throat, but the Chinese retroflex is from the front of the tongue not the back.
      I'm fairly sure the sides of the front of the tongue are too curl upward on the chinese retroflex sounds and am certain the tip of the tongue must come upward and back which it never does in any european language.
      chinese really does make sounds and use tongue positions not found in French, German, Russian, Spanish, Estonian, English and in my opinion in no other European languages.
