I’m a bit older generation Chinese American, and from my experience, I would say Xiaoma’s accent when speaking Mandarin would seem kind of rare for Chinese-Americans. It has quite a strong Beijing regional tone to it, which implies someone who actually grew up in that part of China or someone who learned Chinese as an adult from someone from there. From what I’ve heard, Chinese-Americans who speak Mandarin tend to have more of flatter standard accent, unless they’re joking around or speaking with close family, which becomes like a dialect. Of course it could also depend if they immigrated to the US, and if so at what age, and how or where they learned/studied Mandarin.

It isn't really an Asian thing per se, but I notice a lot of Asian Americans and Canadians have a subtle "west coast" English dialect. I'm convinced that is everyone really thought about it, they also would never wear their street shoes indoors. It's disgusting -- we step on other people' spit, bird poop, gum, oil, etc. Yuck.
I saw someone once try to argue no shoes are more disgusting you never know what disease people have on their feet and I’m like, have you seen the outdoors???? If that’s your issue give them guest slippers then but outdoor shoes in a house is wild!

Hey Xiaoman, just wanted to say I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. Because of you I’ve also started to learn Japanese and seeing the connections you make with others in diff languages is really motivating 👍🏼
頑張ってね !
Bros gonna be the xiaoma of japanese
日本語上手
6:33 Getting CCP social credit there 😂
I love your videos and I love jubilee’s videos ! Don’t know why I just found this can’t wait to watch
Just want to say I’m a fan of your channel and you’re living proof that when people take time to understand one another they appreciate each other. Of all the divisive things being produced and shoved in our faces, your videos are one of the few things that show our kindness as humans. Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s beautiful to watch
This is some Among us type shit 💀
Bros never seen jubilee…..
The fuck?
Sussy baka
@@LuisRG525Yeah no shit YT professional watcher.
Kek @axuap
You're meant for this YT stuff. I've watched several of your language vids/ordering in xyz/etc. Never seen a reaction type watch along vid from you, and you did a great job. Too often, people feel the need to put way more of their own commentary in than necessary. You did a good job of letting the vid play and doing quick pauses with inside information. Well done
Awesome video spreading pure love and joy.
How cool. I'm a subscriber now. What fun. I speak a little bit of Spanish, German, French and Norwegian. Just enough to get them all confused. I'm concentrating on learning Spanish now and will get to the others later.
Very cool, thank you for sharing. Glad you waited to watch it. Watching it with you for the first time and seeing your genuine reactions to it was great. Thanks again!
That was so fun! Xiaoma fooled a few people! Well done Xiaoma, I mean "Kevin". 😉
“Bro sounded white.”
How? Why?
I’m Asian, and I hate brand names.
Tbf, a lot of asian cultures seem to be very brand orientated. I don't like brand stuff cause I think it's dumb, its like walking advertisement, but when I was younger, my mother would constantly buy me brand names like it's to show we can afford it? Or like represents some kind of stature? (as a Korean)
I believe its apart of the college stereotype that foreign exchange students only wear name brand.
He does sound real white. Caleb does too though. And the whole point of that game show is to talk about “brand names.”
He sounds white is a bad way to say it but his Chinese has an English speaker accent. I'm assuming that's what they meant.
Probably because a bunch of them were Californian or something. I dunno.
12:02 That chick in the white to your right looked horrified when we seen youre white 😂
she was flabbergasted
Absolutely distraught
"HE WAS RIGHT NEXT TO ME THE WHOLE TIME!!??"
she was fs disgusted becuase of the "i can feel youre so chinese"
Yeah she actually looks disgusted that he’s white
I absolutely love your videos. They are so much fun and inspiring! Thank you, Xiaoma!!
It was fun to watch you on Jubilee, Arieh. I'm glad you managed to survive past the first round, and hearing the noises you make while reacting to yourself are hilarious.
now THIS is how you do reacts. so great to see your live reactions, since you hadnt seen it. I'd be exactly the same with all the cringing I'd do too if I was in a video like this lol
You're honestly the best man... You take the full cringe of the creative process and tear down these cultural walls we put up against each other. Honestly there's all this I'm going to call it injustice and unfair treatment based on race and what have you.
You put your full vulnerability on display and allow tge stripped down nature of a person's true thoughts and feelings. I know Jubilee is all about shock value but honestly your videos create such a feeling of connection and inspiration to want to get closer to our roots.
So true!! ❤
😭 The video ended so quickly! I was hoping for behind-the-scenes. Well done on making it through two rounds. I've seen some of Jubilee's imposter videos before and it always seems so nervewracking. You did great under pressure.
So cool, man. I grew bilingual, but it took me a long time before appreciating the ability to know multiple languages. I wish I knew people like you in my younger years, but I will certainly pass this on to my kids.
Kevin is very typical Asian American name. Got Hmong cousins named Kevin, Chinese and Vietnamese Kevin’s 😂
ALL Kevin's Unite lol.
I am Hmong and also have a cousin named Kevin too. 😆
my lil bro is named kevin
but we're asian british
I know only 2 vietnamese people and one is kevin
i think 40% of asian americans i know are named kevin
You are the one who inspired me to learn languages! Thank you for being so amazing!
Watching you react back to this video was very wholesome and entertaining lol
xiaoma doing sidequests at this point
i did not expect seeing azali here
(good musik btw)
It’s the like subscribe hit that bell guy!!!!!
Heh, Here in Hawaii we have Asian-Americans who are fifth and sixth generation. They're about as connected to their ancestral culture as white Americans are with their European ancestors. In short, basically holidays, food and sometimes religion.
yeah i am one of those, but i feel like if you really listen you can tell if they are asian, and def not white even if they don’t speak pidgin
lmaoo the way you said cilantro was so white sounding tbh but this is hilarious
Exactly!! Cilaaaaaaantro. I thought for sure he would get voted off for that reason alone.
That's not a "white" way to pronounce; it is more likely regional dialect. I'm white and nobody where I'm from pronounces cilantro like that. In fact, that's the first time I've ever heard it pronounced that way, so it may just be him.
...All this time I thought that's the way you're supposed to pronounce it... And I'm Asian living in North America...
@@Hamburgers4Haiti He 100% pronounced it a distinctly white American way, Cilantro is literally "Coriander" in Italian so the correct way to say it is phonetically which he did not do
@@IllusionQueen4Eva Si-lahn-troh, cilantro is literally just "Coriander" in Italian so you say it phonetically but Americans use it to differentiate coriander leaves from coriander seeds
We need more of you reacting to you bc it’s hilarious
This is such an ‘old man’ comment but I wanted to use the ‘P’ word! Proud you are using your talent and interest in language to share with others! 👍🏼
your reaction to your own cringe is the best content, people these days are afraid to show any negative side of themselves. Just shows pure authenticity
I love watching the jubilee mile videos. They’re always so interesting. Glad you had a chance to involve yourself with that from the inside. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!❤❤❤
You should have started speaking all their languages at the end
Xiaoma one of thsoe youtubers i forget about for 2 years and then binge 2 years worth of vids in a week, only for the cycle to begin again
Ok, you screaming as soon as you speak in the video because cringe is me watching every video of myself ever 😄
Sis got the space marine pauldrons
Ultramarine massive
@Xiaomanyc have you looked into learning an Australian Indigenous language? If you do, Kaurna is a good choose. A local indigenous man has really made a great effort into learning & teaching the indigenous language in the community here in Adelaide. I'm starting to learn it myself.
Very hard bro 😭 i live in wurundjeri melbourne and i have no clue what even hello means
I started learning mandarin because of you, I briefly discontinued but watching you again makes me want to start learning again❤
All the girls have the shocked Pikachu face when they finally found out!
6:35 +1000000 social credit
haha just came to write the same thing. Xiaoma is a fantastic comrade.
How fun! I've seen these shows before, but it was cool to see it from your perspective.
This was a super fun episode! You've definitely inspired me to pick my Spanish back up and to also start learning Haitian Creole.
Totalmente, deberías retomar el español ^^
get ma maun!!
I mention your videos to Chinese students in my city and they always know what I’m talking about. Keep doing your thing. Great video.
Whoah man I remember watching your channel a lot when you were strolling through Chinatown, can't believe how far you have come in channel growth and also linguistic progress. Your work on Navajo shows you're a true theorist and student. Come to Edison and get some thali and hot pot, you could get a lot of material by exploring the little pockets alongside the big cities.
Still, this video is a pretty awesome culmination of how well you've grown into the Asian American community! You're a UA-cam Asian, you made it lol. I was definitely smirking and squeaking at the nerve-wracking moments alongside. Keep up the good work!
That was awesome!!!❤
Good fun! Kevin you're terrific. Keep up the fun!
SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS ! Hope you had fun dear.
Finally, a decent Jubilee video
XIOMA THIS IS SO COOOOL PLEASE DO MOREEEEE
That was one of my favourite videos that you have done. 😁 I loved the way you cringed at various times in the video. 😂
You were fine. You were not cringe. Stop being so hard on yourself. You did great and we love you.
Caleb's like "SEE, SEE, I TOLD YOU I'M NOT CRAZY!!!!!"
I think your language skills are amazing. I’ve been watching you since the beginning and you always amaze me!
This was super funny and your reactions were absolutely priceless and ADORABLE!
Im asian, and I laughed so hard in the beginning after everyone saying they were asian, and u said u were white.
Idk why thats funny.
I think your pronunciation of cilantro was the giveaway.
Awwww this was so wholesome.. I kept smiling the whole video 😊
5:09 your face here is priceless lol
You did a great job on the show. Watching you squirm was hilarious 😂
Cool. Really enjoyed watching you on this, Puppy, your expressions are so honest.
why are you calling him puppy
@@myhlosic his Chinese name means puppy dog
Yo so have to do more of these, this was so entertaining to watch! :)
This was so fun to watch! Thanks for sharing your reactions to it. The cringe you did when you said "and I'm white" was hilarious!
I feel like the fact that Xiaoma can blend in so well with these people and rival their knowledge on Asian culture really highlights the cultural disconnect between 2nd/3rd generation American ethnic minorities and their native counterparts 😶 Xiaoma probably has more exposure, etiquette and cultural knowledge than all of those people combined…
I mean he did live in China for a bit and is married to a Chinese woman too. It makes sense he has some knowledge of that culture given how much of it is now intertwined into his life
Love it. Your videos are cool seeing peoples reactions of your well spoken Chinese. I get that when I speak Spanish people start to speak and I have to reveal “hey I only speak a little.” lol love it
LOL! "one secret white guy' -- That's you, Ari! I studied Chinese Medicine for a couple years and we always removed our shoes right inside the door and walked around the building in socks or whatever. Ever since then, I also CANNOT stand wearing shoes in someone's home AND I can't stand watching someone come in my home with their street shoes and trudging all over my clean carpet.
If someone did that and didn't ask looool
you didn't have indoor shoes/slippers you changed into?
Ari! Xiaoma! I watch your channel as an Asian-British mongrel to not feel so alienated by my own culture 😊
At home I am very Chinese, I cook medicinal Chinese foods to overcome autoimmune illness against odds of 2 year survival, but I am proud that I fight this yet I am not accepted by Chinese as one of them. Thank you for doing this Channel and making me feel closer to homeland as an inside-out person.
Even if people might not accept you, the fact you're traditional is something they can never take from you, and you are valid as Chinese even if people say you aren't. Live for yourself and love yourself, be proud of your Chinese ancestors, they are proud of you, I'm sure of it!
Love from the Lakȟóta O'yaté (O'yaté - Nation, People)
As a Native guy, I do have to obligatorily say fuck the British lol
@@traditionalnative thank you so much! That was very heartwarming to hear I really appreciated that belly laugh
@@LeeXiaoMei I was being serious, but I'm glad I made you laugh anyway!
@@traditionalnative I laughed at f. The British 🤣🤣 its all good! I wasn’t laughing at you. I rarely comment because taken out of context I worry my responses might offend anyone, so I rarely respond to anyones videos.
But this video was important to me, as natives judge their own much harsher. I felt for them saying they never had to prove they were Asian to anyone before. Me? I’ve never been accepted as Asian, it’s hard for me to make friends. So I study everything alone. But I study hard in the hope that I can one day be accepted as well as XiaoMa
0:46 "And I'm white!!!" X-D
THIS IS GENIUS !! LOVED THE VIDEO !!
I think you did an amazing job! My children were born in Japan and I don't think they could pull off their "Japanese" as well as you did your Chinese.
Dude this was fun to watch. It was smart to try and head fake with the stereotypes. Smart! Well done my friend.
I never would have guessed you’d be on Jubilee, how fun to watch
Stay awesome, Xiaoma!
