Quick recommendation for a cheap card that wasn't mentioned: Scaretiller. I put one in as there a lot of vehicles with a crew cost of one, and since Shorikai discards cards, pitching lands to the grave in order to bring them back is great for ramp.
@@thessjbacca5177 that all depends on the build tho. Some go for token ramp, others go for draw advantage and some like to fill the graveyard. When upgrading before this episode came out what I did was tweak the mana a little (a few of the recently printed duals and Mech Hangar) and replace Jace with Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset. Using Shorikai with those tweaks got a massive lead very quickly! The things shown here are gonna make that even stronger and that’s awesome!

I could see it if kotori did not have the whole crew 2 ability and had tap pay 5 target vehicle becomes a creature until end of turn. So she can pilot shorikai
I’m turning this deck into an ESPER deck with Sydri, Galvanic Genius as my Commander. Pay Blue; turn target noncreature artifact into a creature with power & toughness equal to its converted mana cost until end of turn. Pay White Black; give target artifact creature lifelink and deathtouch until end of turn. This way I can add the cool Black mana artifacts, vehicles, enchantments, & creatures that came out in Kamigawa ND!
I built my Shorikai deck specifically to deal commander damage, there’s tons of artifact support to buff him and there’s tons of ways to give him evasion so taking someone out early isn’t as hard as you think also blue and white has a ton of permanent protection! What a difference 2 weeks makes. Thanks to Kappa Cannoneer (AKA Mecha-Gamera) this deck is now up to $70 EV. Not that great, I know, but way better than when it first came out. You can barely find it at Target or my LGS here.
Well Kotori will become better in time as more vehicles with expensive crew costs are released. For this deck, I agree Shorikai is the superior choice, but I'd still keep an eye on Kotori in the future.
This was my first deck for MTG, when I wanted to get into the game I asked the manager of my locals (didn't know he was the manager at the time) what deck he recommended ~ He and I both agree Shorikai is the better commander XD ~ He plays a mono-blue variant of Shorikai (With the commander being the only multi-color card + a few colorless cards) and I rock an Intruder alarm turbo build XD
Good episode. I feel like you guys have found a decent happy medium on all the new set review stuff. I feel u missed a golden opportunity to add mechtitan core!
Some great suggestions in here that I will definitely have to consider while continuing to modify my version of the deck. Meekstone and Fell the Mighty also seem like great inclusions since your pilots and vehicles mostly dodge the downsides. Another reason for removing Kappa Cannoneer is to sell it and make a chunk of your money back. The card is pushing $20 right now due to Legacy hype.
The most obvious card to add that you forgot is containment construct from neon dynasty. Your commander discards cards all the time, so why not just play those cards instead of discarding them.
A reason I could think of to not run this is for the return from graveyard, but that's a pretty flimsy reason tbh. This seems like an awesome card to include!
I mean that’s one card in your 99, I feel like this deck probably wants dark steel forge and a way to cheat it out if it’s within your budget to do so in the upgrades anyways, Something like Koldutha forgemaster.

Rise and Shine turns all your vehicles into 4/4s (their stats get set to 0/0) for 6 mana and makes all your vehicles permanently vulnerable to creature removal/board wipes. You better be winning the turn you cast it, because otherwise you're getting wiped and losing everything.
@@devyn54 I know. I planed this card a a finsisher, like overrun-effects in green decks.
IF more vehicles are released
@@Nick-82 Vehicles are deciduous, so it's definitely a when, not an if. I agree that it might take some time though.
Just a shout out for Jimmy! Congratulations!!!!!!
Is Damen repping more Grunt Style on the show? +1 to this guy.
Really liked Damen!
Ornithopter of Paradise should really be in this deck.
"That's how they passed time in the 20's."
Crazy thought. We're IN the 20's...
Congratulations Jimmy
Josh correcting pronunciation on "Minamo" was my favourite part of this whole episode xD
Id love to be playing in these pods where mass artifact removal wasn't standard with most boardwipes
I really enjoyed the new guest. Please bring him back.
Yes I want to see him in here again! :D
Damn josh let the man talk
Can we please talk about how funny this Better Help ad is?! 💀💀💀
Command Zone: Artifacts are very hard to remove!
...
"Vandal Blast" is cast.
Red or green player exists
I mean that’s one card in your 99, I feel like this deck probably wants dark steel forge and a way to cheat it out if it’s within your budget to do so in the upgrades anyways, Something like Koldutha forgemaster.
unbender tine is a really strong card to add and it's cheaper then unwinding clock
I just put together a Shorikai deck and played it the other night. Used Master Transmuter to cheat out a Blightsteel Colossus at instant speed after using Shorikai to filter for it
Damen, it was -15 F in the Midwest when you recorded this. I watched it in the midst of a snow storm that dumped 2 ft of snow 😂
If you’re swinging with Shoriki, you’re either screwed, winning that turn or you’re playing it wrong.
