Thanks for this dude! This is the review I needed to solidify my anticipation. I really appreciate all the detail you go into and all of the in action shots. One of the best reviews I've seen in a long long time. Great work!
seems lilke a good S/lab Genesis alternative (with better stability?) from La Sportiva! ... I love my regular Prodigios and am really interested in those pros... is the toe protection stiffer than the regular Prodigios? that's the one thing I'm a bit skeptical on my regular ones, especially on gnarly mountain terrain. thanks!
Yes - I'd be interested in a comparison with the S/Lab Genesis too please. Taking on a mountainous 100-mile race next summer and was fairly sure the S/Lab would be my shoe of choice but this review has me thinking otherwise now 😁 Thanks Mike!
Good pick for a comp. Very similar shoe in terms of idea and execution. I'd roughly say the Genesis slightly more agile, and the Pro-Pro more runnable, faster. More details on comps when I do the written review.
Yes, toe bumper is definitely thicker and more rigid than the regular model. That one has just a thinner film-type layer. The Pro has some rigidity to it.
Interesting comp there - I like this better than Mafate 4 - that one feels a bit sluggish to me. They're totally changing V5 though so who knows what that will be like.
Looks like a great shoe, and nice review! Comment about the sizing, when a shoe is off that much (a full size) it makes it difficult for stores to order properly and sell the shoe. It also creates a lot of overhead with returns and exchanges. It's crazy to me that a company in 2024 can't figure out their sizing.
I think La Sportiva has always been this way. I suspect it's a climbing thing - climbing shoes are of course extremely tight, so I think their more rugged mountain shoes have seemed to follow that pattern.
Was waiting anxiously for this review to drop! Did not disappoint! Knit collar aside, I’d be curious to see a comparison with the VJ Maxx 2. I am a big VJ fan looking forward to trying their new midsole foam. The Maxx 2 seems like a lighter shoe. I only weigh 150 lbs so don’t need a huge stack….
@@kgenest100 Maxx 2 is a full ounce lighter in my equivalent size - Maxx 2 (9.0) vs. Prodigio Pro (10.5) ?! VJ's listed stack is deceiving though. It feels way thinner underfoot. I'm 138 lbs and it feels noticeably thinner to me. More details when I do full comps.
How technical could you go? Have a sky mtn race, lots of above tree line, ridge running(walking). Would they stand up? Was thinking NF Off Trail TR, but like the run ability of these. Thanks
Hard to say exactly - probably depends on how well they fit your foot and how secure you feel. The TPU in the midsole is definitely energetic - maybe unstable it it's too rocky, loose rocks, shale etc. Off Trail TR is a different category I'd say. If it's really that rough you may need some type of protection underfoot. The Pro Pro still leans "runnable" mountain terrain I'd say.
Thanks for the great review. 2 questions: For both models do you use the same size? If you had to combine Prodigio Pro with another trail shoe to your quiver, what would you recommend? Merry Xmas!
@@luizfelippe1495 Hard to say with so much dependent on context. As far as an ultra-racing combo, I'd go with one of the "Big 3" I talked about in the video for very long ultras, and the Prodigio Pro would be a good complement for a little less distance/duration. The LS is also way more usable for training. So much is dependent on the terrain you're in though. I could make a case for using the Prodigio Pro for pretty much everything too.
Thanks - I prefer doing it on the run anyway so it works out. Yes, I'm 10.5 - full size up from my true to size 9.5. I do often go 10 for "ultra" sizing, so depends how you want to look at it. La Sportiva does run small, objectively speaking. I list all my sizing in the comps sections of written reviews. This one's coming out in Spring, so it will go into the 2025 bucket for sure. Sometimes my "best of" picks get a bit mixed up around December. But I got these after I completed my picks.
Thanks for this review! 🤩 How do you think the prodigio pro would behave on very technical terrain (i live nearby the Alps)? I'd love a comparison with the salomon ultra glide s/lab ultra glide 😁 Keep up the good work!
RTR Sam chiming in for Mike. I had one day in Prodigo Pro during UTMB week and have reviewed S/Lab Ultra Glide here:www.roadtrailrun.com/2024/09/salomon-slab-ultra-glide-review-max.html. It will depend on your pacing. If you are a "faster" runner in tech terrain then the Prodigo Pro is my initial thought. The Ultra Glide does fine but its strength is in either slower paces or smooth terrain where it is fantastic and surprisingly one of the very best "road" shoes I tested in 2024
@@HumbleRunning you are correct the outsole lugs are widely spaced and not particularly dense up front due to Relieve Sphere gaps. Also thin and this is in the review at the very front due to this. Off tech terrain they are spectacular.

Appreciate the feedback. I try to do reviews that I would watch myself - I definitely want to see the shoe in action!
Such a great review, Mike! Thanks for all of the hard work!
Great review. Thanks!
Next level Mike! Looking forward to this one.
A good job, Mike. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. !!! Merry Christmas!!!.
best review as always ! thanks ! it might be a new replacement for my old catamount 3 for me
Agree - this might be more similar to Cat 3 than the upcoming Cat 4. Very agile and good flex.
@ thank you 😊
@@HumbleRunning how does it compare to the Cat 4 in terms of supporting performance on runnable terrain?
@@codyjung6963 Still testing the Cat 4, need a few more runs in that one before full review. But it is as advertised - stiffer plate/ride, and fast!
Great informative review. Good detail. I'm a bit worried about width as I have a pretty narrow foot. But guess I'll need to try a pair on.
Yea, maybe try just a half size up, thicker socks possibly. The shoe is worth a try

Dang, this looks perfect for running here in Colorado. Not surprised given Anton was involved, but really looking forward to this one!
I heard he's trying to make a run at UTMB again.. I'm sure he's putting lots of miles in this one and the upcoming MAX
Thanks Mike, I rate your explanation with a 💯 and it motivates me to leave Hoka Mafate for these Sportiva Prodigio Pro Merry Christmas 🤗🙏

@@JuneScapula ah good idea, didn't think of that. I never really look at the EU sizes except for like Scarpa - they have an odd sizing chart.
what brand is that blue coat?
Patagonia Storm Racer - nice design to get into front vest pockets easily.
Would this Prodigio Pro compete with the new VJ Ultra 3?
Any plans to review the VJ?
We do have that one coming in for test. Don't have it yet though. The VJ seems higher stack, a lot different from the first versions
Very excited about these but disappointed to hear that they run wide. I have always done well the traditional more narrow LaSportiva fit
For your written review, I’d love to see a comparison between this and the new Speedland GL PDX.
Currently testing that one! Need a few more runs before review

Combine in what sense? A 1-2 combo to cover most conditions, or combining 2 shoes to create a Franken-shoe?
Option combo🙂. Like these examples: Prodigio pro and Salomon Genesis or Prodigio Pro + Hoka SG6 or Prodigio Pro + X shoe. Thanks
