Hello Madam,I am going work as an accountant in an interior design company for the first time, this video really helped me to know the business nature of it .
I can imagine its a lot of work. I was watching a staging video, and the moving staff, van, storage, etc is often not taken into account. Thank you for doing this video.
Thanks Kenn. I think that until you do something yourself, it can be hard to empathize. I know that I have underestimated what is involved in other professions. I love what I do, but it is hard work!
You perfectly explained each and every point. It was not at all boring you were fun to watch and listen. You are just mind-boggling. Thank you for making this video and keep up the good work.💯♥️
I wish to be an interior stylist, I’ve a strong passion for it, I love the classic French style with a mix of contemporary! I love adding warmth to spaces... And I have a law degree! Can anyone help with ground level tips?
Hey Aditi. I replied to this on another video. You can find lots if great Free resources that I share here --> clairejefford.com/interior-design-business-resources/
Hi Claire....thanks for all this valuable information...I was wondering how you were able to get all those samples to show your clients...I see all those notebooks behind you and I am like ...WOW what's in those books...I will check out your website...I am starting interior design and decor class this month...hopefully I will see you at an event
Hi Claire! Thank you for all the wonderful videos! Can you please explain a bit more on an interior designer managing a project? I’m very familiar with new construction, subcontractors, the GC etc, but it sounds like an interior designer managing a project is what the GC would normally be doing with setting up the different trades, managing the timeline, etc.? I would love to understand this better. Thank you! 😊
Claire, I really appreciate your awesome videos! I’d love to know how to start obtaining those wonderful sample books featured on the shelf behind you. Thank you!
Thank you for all of this valuable info! I was wondering how I could best start a working relationship with painters, plummers and other professionals. Can I just ask them for a lower price if I refer my future clients to them? How does this exactly work? I hope you can answer me. Love, Donna
Hey Donna! I recommend finding reputable trades and having open conversations with them about how you can work together. This is best to do ahead of when you will need to hire then for projects. Build a good working relationships with open communication to establish how you will work together. For example, will you manage the trades or work alongside them? Will you be collecting payment or will the client pay them directly? If you are collecting payments, make sure you have the right insurance as you are responsible for their work and if any accidents were to happen in a client's home. Lots to consider! I have a checklist here that you may find helpful --> clairejefford.com/startup-checklist/
Hey great video!! Can you please one video on quick book, like book keeping, to check and have it in one place , how much the furniture, how much profit etc
Thank you so much for sharing. Great Vid. I’m starting an interior design business focused on Kitchen and bath remodels. But my biggest concern is if I need a GC license or can i work through the GC I hire to the work? Or who is supposed to pull the permits? How does this part work, I don’t want legal problems. Any advice?
Hey there, you need to find out about the laws on this depending on where you live as it can definitely vary. Then you decide how you prefer to work and if it's with a GC, have discussions ahead of time to work out who is responsible for what. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
@@ClaireJefford ok I will look into that. Hope to keep seeing more videos from you, as they have been a great source of learning and inspiration. Keep it up.
Hi Tricia. The answer to your question (albeit a year late because I'm only seeing it now!) is no. You can set up your business in the way that works best for you. Often I will be the one to initially meet with a new client for the consult and then had off the project (while overviewing details) to my lead designer.
There are different softwares based on what you are looking at doing. Chief Architect for 3D rendering program, Mydoma for client organization software are two examples.

Hello Chin Lee. These factors will depend on your business model and specific goals for your firm; your target audience and where you are located. Getting some one on one advice would probably very beneficial to review in more depth, all of your objectives. Thanks for watching!
It was very informative video I am an upholsterer and would like to know how to make a connection with Interiore designers. How do you deal with your upholsterer? Thanks
Reach out to local designers in your area and see if there is an opportunity to collaborate together on a future project. Whenever you approach someone, always use their first name in the email (if that's how you are first reaching out to them) and start the conversation by complemrmting a specidif project you like of theirs and let them what you can do for them and how you can benefit their business. I get a lot of people emailing me who just say 'hello' and they clearly haven't taken the time to dig deeper to find out my name at the very least, they may be sending a bunch of eamils to many people and not personalizing them per recipient. It's very off putting and I tend to delete those instantly.
If you have a passion for design or decorating and are business savvy with lots of determination, then you could start a business. Be aware of what you want to niche in or focus on, as design is much different to decorating and depending on where you live, you may need to get a degree. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
My wife loves interior designing and so i, and she would love to start a business as an interior designer, and she has been practicing with a page in instagram called Mpiinteriors, id like you to have a look at it and see if you could give us some great advice if the designs are worth for business or should we start off from somewhere. what can you advise? Thanks ..

Informative video. As a professional myself, the background music for such a business video is bit irritating. Suggestion to avoid background music.

You and I both Sis, doing my masters but my heart is really is in interior design.
You should consider going into Conveyancing, and consider house staging for sale, for starters, and build up to finally have your own business.
