I'm a GM fan mostly, but man that Fury is iconic. This was made back when cars had real soul and character in their styling. New cars are merely soul-less appliances.

The 318 Poly was in many ways superior to the 318 A motor excepting the weight penalty, and it's girth.

That 318 Poly was no joke. The 318 is actually the engine that turned out to be the most widely used Mopar engine of all of Chrysler Corp. engine designs. That engine can be made to be a really easily modified high output engine. For it's size and weight it can really put out a very impressive amount of horsepower that will run with any engine in the close displacement of it. What a nice example of the Fury line. It was and still is one of the most impressive cars ever made as far as I am concerned. I had a really nice 1970 Fury with a 318 that came with a factory 4 bbl, factory headers, and dual exhaust, coupled to a 727 Torqueflite tranny. It was a real high output 318 from the factory. The car had every option except electric seats. It was a custom ordered car that was equipped with power disc brakes, real power steering, am/fm, a/c, interrupted windshield wipers, tinted windows, tilt, and cruise. It was a plain jane Fury emblem car only. It had no designation as a 1,2, or 3. I've never seen another 1970 Fury, or any other year that was equipped like it that held a plain Fury badge with that much equipment. I regretted when I sold it way back then and still do regret it.
318 Poly isnt the same as the 318 LA or the 318 Magnum.

WHAT??? Don't y'all *DARE* swap the original dual quad 318 out of that beast! That is one of the few original 318 poly engines with a dual quad setup ever made, not to mention an amazing piece of Mopar history, so PLEASE don't tear it out of there to put another engine in it! It deserves to stay original the way it came from the factory. Honor the originality and history of this car and keep the engine it was born with. There aren't many examples like it left. Also, think of it this way: if you're speaking of factory horsepower, there's only a 15 HP difference between the original 318 and that 383, which can be MORE than made up with by swapping in a hotter cam or porting the heads. Plus, if you've ever heard a healthy 318 poly run, they can sound pretty damn mean, so I'd keep the original 318 poly dual quad in it. It's a great engine and an awesome original combination. That car deserves to stay the way it is (restored, of course).
Well we wouldn't be putting a 383 in it, it would get a 350 big block Mopar, a one year only engine and the first big block Chrysler made, it was the other optional engine for the car. We know the 350 can be made to run good, but the internals inside the 318 may not be any good and the cubic amount of money required to restore that particular 318 poly back to it's original hot cam and high compression glory would be kind of silly, BUT keeping it all original would be very slick
@Poly Bun that 350 has all of the special hardware to swap it in, Jesse had already decided he's putting the 350 in there because the 318 is so toasty
The 350 B block was optional on all 58 Plymouths - it didn’t have much more horsepower, but it did have quite a bit more torque, and at a lower RPM. IF you REALLY want to have fun, try to find one of the Bendix fuel injection setups for the 350. I think they only made 50, and most of them had the dual quads retrofitted for reliability reasons.

Glad to hear you say "too many Christines and general lees". I rather see a different Plymouth or charger. My dad always said his favorite car he ever had was a 58 Plymouth. I heard so many cool stories about that car and every time I see one reminds me of my dad. Thanks for the videos 👍👍

I'm 52 years old and have lived in Iowa my whole life. I have NEVER seen a late 50's Chrysler product that I can remeber. From what I have been told it had something to do with the steel that the Chrysler Corp. bought in 57-60 that rusted almost from day one. These cars were virtually gone from the upper Midwest by the early 70's because of the bodies rusting off the frame. Sad, they are beautiful cars.
I heard that about this vintage of Chrysler-Plymouth cars.
A friend's dad had a '57 Chrysler he bought Brand new.
At 5 years, things started falling through the holes in the trunk!

Yes, that's the one thing that kept GM and Ford from eventually having heart attacks after seeing the new '57 Chryslers were those soon rusted Chrysler bodies. Suddenly it was indeed 1960, but the "Forward Look" had collapsed. Too bad, because Chrysler design from '57-'60 was definitely more advanced. GM responded radically, as evidenced by their '59s. Ford continued with a more measured and incremental approach, but by the early '60s it was over design-wise for Chrysler. They never wowed the auto industry again like they did with the "Forward Look."
Cars like this are functional works of art. Looking forward to seeing what becomes of it. Keep us updated!

I have loved the fin cars since I was very little. In 1960,the rich people next door had a Plymouth Fury! .I can still picture that space ship backing out of the garage. In the 70's a friend had 60 Dodge hardtop with the same dual quad 318. The poly can produce a lot more power than people realise.
That really is an amazing find/score. It really. Given how "Intact" she is. Should be a candidate for a concourse restoration (Except for our current BS inflation additional costs). Like finding a 68 Shelby 428 Cobra Jet intact and all their right down to the original battery. NICE ! Thumbs Up from this Cummins Guy ! Save her !
Funny thing about the 428 CJ is they used the sound from that engine for Christine in the movie. I have a 318 HO and think it sounds great as is but that's Hollywood for yah.

Here is the thing, the restomod thing is just the Twenty-First Century version of hot rod customization like you out of touch Karen/Kevin types of dinosaurs used to do in your lives, so, by criticizing someone that does such things to vehicles, you are essentially condemning yourselves with the things that you lot used to do with hot rods that you all used to make back in the day. The only difference between a restomod and a hot rod is that more modern technology is used for restomods, as opposed to period correct parts in hot rods, but, even IF period correct parts were used, there are still advances in custom/aftermarket parts that advance the technology that are beyond a stock car, you know, just like a restomod. I am also tired of you gate keeping vehicle Pharisee hypocrites thinking that you all are the end all, and be all, authorities on how vehicles should be made. The whole point of a vehicle is to make it YOURS, and NOT what someone else wants, you know, aside from the people that actually DO restore, renovate, and/or rebuild, cars for people, in which it is literally their job to give people what they want, so step off of people for expressing themselves through their vehicles! Now if you want to make hot rods, or restore vehicles to show room condition, then you go ahead and do that, because that is what you all want to do in your lives, but when it comes to talking about the rides that other people do, and that want to make their own, then you need to back off of your gate keeping because you do not get to control their lives!

They all got faster the older they became. Most rusted out so quickly there's not many left on the planet. The just kept getting lighter and lighter until they were a pile powdered iron oxide. You're in for a lot of metal work. Good luck, nice car.
Worked in a Plymouth ,Desoto dealers body shop when they first came out.their 318 was a great engine. These autos could give almost every thing on the road a fit. 85 now and miss these. Hate the new computers we have to drive. Junk, no frames, get hit junk. Repaired a lot of these. RIP plymouth, Desoto.
Extra rare! Restoration costs would probably exceed the value of the car unless someone were capable of doing most of the work themselves.
Cold War Motors has a 1960 that has been an amazing build. I like the 318.

Had n original 57 Fury in 1966, I was 18 years old. Paid $500 for the car. Loved it! Got alot of shit about how old and ugly it was back then. Tailfins were not cool in1966! HA! 65-66 GTO'S, Mustangs were the in cars, still loved my Fury and YES the backseat was great, plenty of room for all sorts of positions! I am now 74 going on 75 yrs. Old. John

Cold War motors has two 1960 fury’s. they are an awesome vehicles and the restoration he is finishing is real cool. There very cool cars
I know of a gentleman in my area that has a 58 Fury in that very same paint color in very similar condition. His father bought it new and apparently after he got home from vietnam his father gave him the car for something to drive as he had a 66 Impala at that time and the Fury just sat. Well story goes after about a year of driving the fury he decided to park it on the family farm and he went and bought himself a brand new 1971 Monte Carlo. But he too just like his father had, put the car out behind the house and there it sat for 40 years until I stumbled across it when I was delivering some firewood to him. I was young at the time, probably had my license less than 6 months but for him to see a young guy like myself get excited about it and offer to buy it (he rejected my offer 😥) he decided to sell his very nice motorhome because his wife has since passed away and he never used it anymore. So he took the money and is currently having the car restored and says his plan is to drive it for a year and give it to his grandson just like his father did with him. I was happy to hear it, he hopes for it to become a family heirloom.
Wow what a great find! Looks like all the hard to source trim is there and in good shape! Love it and looking forward to its progress back to greatness. I was thinking a late model Hemi would be nice until you popped the hood. Never knew they built a high performance 318 Poly? Again: What a score!
You made my day with your statement that there are too many General Lee's and Christine clones! Let me say before someone thinks that I am anti Dukes of Hazard that I think that them banning the show over the flag on that car is bullshit! In fact I think trying to change history by removing statues and other things from our environment is stupid, Enough said! That car is incredible! I love it and I can picture it all black with tinted windows and all, Talk about sinister! That would be one mean looking car! I would put the 350 in it if it will run without to much work at least until I got the original done! If it and the original both need the same amount of work I would build the original! That 350 is super rare and cool.. keep the poly...its a canted valve twisted wedge.. you can easily make 350hp with that dual quad poly..

The 58 Mopars are probably my absolute favourites, together with the Chrysler 300s of this vintage and the 59 Dodge.
This one is an absolute gorgeous vehicle: With the dual carbs and all the special trim: Unbelieavable!
My opinion is: Keep it stock: the engine, the color, everything! I am a GM guy but those forward look cars are absolutely stunning cars. I hope this beauty will be fully restored.
The interior alone will be an very hard and expensive work. At least this car is worth investing a fortune and a lot of blood, sweat and tears!
Recently built a BB 350 clone based on a 400 block but retaning the original outlook. Thought that the original intake with two 500 carters would be the limiting factor. Massaged it a bit, and it was actually the best performing engine like that I've built. Better than smilar engine wit RPM intake and a Holley, making 530+ hp with a smallish hydraulic flat tappet cam.

Black with a buckskin roof would look killer. I love it. I'd do a full mechanical resto and drive it though. With a new windshield. Lol. The designers back then were pure artists. You don't hardly find em like that anymore. Thanks for this video Scott

Those things are rare as hens teeth by now, restoring it to new-from-factory condition will take a small fortune and a lifetime, but I wouldnt be surprised of it bringing way north of $100K when done right.
This looks to be a very nice solid and complete car, rough guess off the as-is value somewhere in the $25-40K range?
(I`m a Christine fan, but this one doesnt need to be turned into another clone, hope it gets done in a light color and as factory as possible)

I LOVE THIS VIDEO- not just the CAR, but the VIDEO itself 🙂🙂🙂. To the best of my knowledge, I have NEVER left a comment on an old car video, though I am obsessed with old cars. At 46 years old, I still feel like a kid at Christmas seeing a '55 Crown Vic or a '63 Fleetwood (my parents gave me my first old car.... a '55 Ford Fairlane I believe in 1980. I was about 4, and remember like it was yesterday). I can't count how many old cars that my Mother has been sweet and kind enough to buy for me over the years. Even when she didn't have much money, my sweet Mother bought my ALL time favorite "late model" car, one I had ALWAYS wanted: A 1982 Lincoln Mark VI coupe, in 2012. I'm sorry, I digress; I got a little off topic in my reminiscing 😁. You get the point; I love old cars. So, this video is SO awesome.... and to a Ford lover, no less! Do you wonder why? It is because the guys talking are real, and REAL car guys! They're talking REAL stuff! Most videos are are made by people TALKING OUT OF THEIR ....(you know whats) lol, NOT these fellas! They know what they are talking about, and if they don't know, they'll tell you that they don't know! How awesome is HONESTY!?!? Apparently what LITTLE they don't know is far overshadowed by what they DO KNOW! It's REAL! They're the real DEAL! No hype, no pitch, no faking, no goofy pics, NO READING FROM A SCRIPT (thank you Jesus), just QUALITY entertainment with KNOWLEDGE thrown in! I'm so thoroughly impressed. FYI: I've never been a Mopar fanatic, but a while back I stumbled onto a Mopar gallery in one of my '50s car books that I got about 1988. I was STUNNED when I saw some of these Mopar cars (especially the '55 & '56 New Yorkers)!!! I found a new favorite! THIS Fury is just an INCERDIBLE car! I hung on every word of this video, when 9 times out of 10 after a minute or so on other channels I mute the video and fast forward through. Around 1970 i bought a 57 Chrysler 300 with a dual quad 392 Hemi, and it was fast! Busted a 68 Vette one night. I miss that car, and wish i owned a 58 Fury like this one. Very cool car!
I had a 361 in my 61 Dodge Polara. It was a two door hard top. Wish I had it now!

I had 58 Belvedere with 318 and replaced it with an 58 chrysler 392.Big different. Never lost a race. On the last race with 64 GTO that I won. Then going back home I turned it over.
My Dad took the Engine out and sold it.
Always been a Mopar fan, now getting somewhat older (54), I've come to (ahum....cough cough) appreciate the less fortunate like Ford and GM! 😉😆😂
....and watching this after that black '58 Belvedere, I've got to admit that I'm starting to warm up to these Plymouths!

A good friend of mine had a ‘58 Belvedere 4 door special order with the 305hp engine, heavy duty Torqueflight, anti-slip 3.23 rear end an dual exhaust. It would fly, ran it in pure stock and won many trophies!

I've always loved these. Please don't ruin it by making it another Christine! Hate that awful orange-red color! Whoever owns it is so lucky. Also lucky you guys have the means to restore it. In Michigan, every single shop has closed its doors to classic cars. You can't even get Belle Tire to fix a leaky tire for you anymore, if it's on a classic. Awesome ride, hope they keep it original

A rare one indeed. A/C was very rare back in the day. Thanks for clearing up the fact that Fury's were not offered in red back then. I really like the black on yellow CA plate. That was used from 1956 to 1962. In 1963 the yellow on black plates were introduced. Looks like a great candidate for a restoration.
In the early 1960's, my friend's uncle died. His son was a junior in high school and was told to get a part time job to help the family. His reward would be his own car. He found a 1957 Fury which had been painted prurple, and a rusted trunk floor repaired with roofing tar and screen.
It didn't run well. We removed the aircleaners and the rear carb had no throttle plates, and had been stuffed with a red shop towel. It was by far worse than my $70 1957 Chevy.
This will be a really nice rare car when the restoration is completed.
The 318 poly was a great engine but these had different heads and the 2 4bbl Carters.
I tried to get a guy to sell me his 59 Imperial Crown 2 door with a 413 with two 4bbl Carters but he just couldn't part with it.
I have a 1960 Plymouth belevedere 4 door ... 2 yrs newer than this. It was the last yr of the beautiful tall fins. These are beautiful cars. Very ingeniously n well built. Thank u for that video

So freaking cool. One of my favorite cars ever, and definitely my favorite car of that era (SO much cooler than Chevy or Ford of that time). I don’t think you would go wrong either way…restore original or go the Christine route. I have to respectfully disagree with you on one thing, personally I don’t think you can ever get TOO many Christine’s on the road! Maybe that is just me though😎
I was under the impression that the 57's had the 318 dual quad and the 58's got the 350 dual quad. Was this an early manufacture car, or was it an A/C only thing. I have never actually seen a 57-59 Plymouth with A/C and have had a couple of them. My last was a 57' Savoy 2 dr. One thing to be really careful of on these cars is that they electrical system on them is not properly fused, as they do not have a fuse box. Every one I had, I rewired. All of them had some melted wires under the dash somewhere.
My Savoy was all black . All these Exner cars look especially sinister in black. My friend had a 57' Desoto Adventurer Convertible in black and gold and it was gorgeous.
According to the registry, there are only 5 or 6 58 Fury's known to exist with A/C and this car isn't in the registry

'58 Fury is an epic car.
We all have an opinion of when the muscle car era began. My claim to the when and where was when the '49 Olds Rocket 88 came out with the Kettering OHV V-8. That set everything in motion as Ford scrambled to create the Y block, and most of the '50's V-8's (including the SBC) copied the Kettering engine design in some way. So much so that a Big block Mopar intake can be modified and fitted to a first gen Olds Rocket.

Christine was actually a Belvedere . Producer just liked the sound of "Fury." All Furys were that Beige color. Looks like you have the real deal. Cool.

Guarantee that poly will fire up and run smooth as. Same with the c/i Torqueflite. My '62 Dart hadn't run since 1967 and it fired right up.
I agree, if he sticks with the 2x4 318, it would have to built back to original specs, not just an average ordinary 318 poly

Hey what can I say as a Chevy guy I also love Mopars too. Those Fury's only came in Beige Color, Gold Trim, Love the Push Button Transmission too. the Belvedere was only car I know of that came in the Red, however the Trim, and Bumpers are slightly different to that of the Fury. I agree, The Fury in Black and Gold would be awesome! I would get behind that myself. Great find. I hope your friend does a complete restoration including original (or close too) Color, Too many of these Fury's in "Christine Red".
Awesome car! I had one myself. 350 big block dualquad car. It was sold new here in Utah, then went to Southern California and was done as a mild custom,lake pipes, louvered Hood.This was all done in the early sixties.Like most car guys i Wish I never sold it.

Small correction - the bumper wingettes were available on Belvedere and wagons, too. We had them on our '57 Custom Suburban wagon. These rusted within a year, a '68 Road Runner didn't. 🚙

Wowzer, I remember my brother had one of these in the early 60s. It was lean and mean, and hot rods in town did not want any part of this beast.

Easily north of $30K in parts alone to fully restore the Fury. They literally don't make any reproduction parts for these cars compared to Chevy's and Fords from the period. A windshield alone for a 2 door HT in good shape will be a national search all in itself. I ground up restored a 58 Belvy 2dr HT 25 years ago and it was already crazy then. Had to be really patient and search for good parts in yards and swap meets all over the place. It is amazing how mostly untouched this car is, really one in a million these days. But she needs a lot of work.
