003E90 crankshaft sensor and S0098 Electronic fuel pump control module. this is the 2 fault codes ive narrowed down to on my car. 2009 n47 bmw 320d 177bhp. Issuel of car is, takes 5 seconds to crank the car, then at random if cars below 28mph the car starts to shut down (this is random) ether in cold start or just not driven the car. Also fuel burning more and smell of diesel. No white/black smoke. This happened when i removed the wiring loom, to change the intake manifold. Once i put everything on, the fuel line metal pipes had to be removed to remove the injector wires. I knew engine wont start so we did a bleed test till air was gone (i hope) then once the car fired the 5 second delay started happening :(
I think it's relative. Expectations are now higher. I just reset my service interval and it's showing 2yrs or 19K miles for an pip service!!!!! On a Turbo car, that's a ridiculously long time for pip to survive, lubricate chains, not clog up pip squirters, etc. I agree that modern cars are made to a strict budget, but I'm willing to bet that an N47 with 6K pip changes will love a long and happy life. Not saying chains will last forever, because nothing does. even the bomb proof M57/N57 engines are reporting chain failures nowadays, but you get my point.

I thought it might be a vacuum thing, or leak, and removed the vacuum pipe from the EGR and car ran better, no more stuttering at hot but the hard starting was still there... Any ideas? Car has 240000km
Monitor fuel pressure via scan tool or scope/ voltmeter ua-cam.com/video/pHitMK2YteE/v-deo.html what's the coolant temp sensor reading Hot/cold? Is there a way to blank egr off to eliminate it?

Yes my wife has that exact model but I called BMW UK and they said her chassis number was affected by timing chain issue! Do u know if it's an interference engine cheers sandy

Pressure to low should be 260 - 300 bar to start, excessive leek off from injector/ injectors, bad injector, no fuel supply, any codes u got logged?
Bummer for the owner going to be expensive to pull the motor to do the chain. I own a f30 2.0 I love bmw but something’s just aren’t simple to do.
