I'm having the same issue replaced the battery and now this started noticing the idle dropping could this be the same fix and is the fuse box in the same place i drive a 99 740il.
I don't see the need for negative comments, but my X5 was doing the exact same thing and I figured it couldn't hurt to try a $20 part and give it a shot, and it works!!!! The only difference is that my relay is located in the back hatch on the passenger side thank you so much for this video! As you stated you saved me a headache, grief, worry and most of all money!!!
I swapped the fuse to test and my 06 X5 cranked right up... Oscar Ruiz-Autorepair thanks a MILLION!!!! I just literally put $800 into it the week before and didn't want to take it back to the dealership. Really appreciate this video - thanks again!!!

this reminds me of my 1995 525i fuel pump going bad. It stalled at the gas station. Immediately called my next door neighbor (another DIY guy) and explained whats happening. He said get a hold of a rubber mallet and uncover the trunk matting exposing the fuel pump cover. I ask someone to "whack" that particular area of the trunk floor while Im trying to start the car. On the count of three we simultaneously crank the ignition and pound on the cover. Voila! the engine started. Drove home and replaced the fuel pump the next day. lol
similar problems on 1950/60/70s BMC cars. MGBs and Morris 1000 had the fuel pump installed adjacent to the right hand rear wheel well, exposed to water (and slat in UK winters). If the fuel pump wasn't ticking when the ignition was switched on a whack with a piece of wood would often get it going again. Of course in those days you could strip and clean the pump and the contacts so a replacement pump wasn't always required.

This seems to be a common problem on these cars. My E90 323i LCI N52 is doing the same thing after it cools down. Starts perfectly on a cold winter morning at - 30 C. I drive it to work and then park it for 8 hours on that same day. After work, the engine turns but will not start. Even with a full tank of premium petrol, a new battery, a new fuel pump, no check engine light, no OBD2 diagnostic codes, the car will not start. My car has an electronic fuel control unit near the passenger side rear seat instead of a fuel relay. Problem ended up being water in the fuel. Resolution: Added a couple of bottles of gas line antifreeze/water remover, waited a few hours and car starts and runs normally. Now I'm not sure if it's condensation from extreme temperature fluctuations or bad gas from the gas station but from now on when I fill up in the winter, I will always add a bottle or two of gas line antifreeze/water remover.

Hey brother I just replaced the Fuel Pump myself ($1,500 estimate from dealer, $300 part) in my 2008 BMW E60 550i and after successfully changing the part, it would not crank over. Saw your video, called the dealer, and they said they would have changed the Fuel Pump Relay as well in the package deal they quoted me, so I went and paid $25 for the part, she started right up! Thank you so much man, subscribed and liked. :)
Hi. Where did you find your fuel pump relay in your vehicle? I have a E60, 2008 528xi and have the same problem but can't find where the relay is? I bought a new one at the dealer for $25 and fingers crossed it fixes the issue. Thanks!
Nah what’s the fun in that. couple little sparks won’t hurt 😉. (I’m completely joking by the way but I’ve also never actually disconnected the battery to replace a fuse/relay 😳
Same problem with our 2006 X5, but different cause. After watching a few video's of troubleshooting (checking a bunch of fuses and relays). I decided to start looking at the silent fuel pump [which should make a faint humming when starting]. Pulled the rear seat [no tools required] and disconnected the fuel pump harness [on passenger side]. Supply power was good. Jumped the pump motor and it was dead. Besides waiting for a replacement pump, the entire job was 15 minutes of work [which is less time than following the troubleshooting instructions].
Great video , if my scan tool says fuel pump is operating correctly and it still won't fire , I changed my fuel injectors because it was running so rich so even if I scan and says fuel pump good do I change the relay?
Man i will try it. And even though if it wont work. Thank you for showing and saving money on those damn dealership mechanics who make use pocket empty.
Hey Oscar, i saw this video and i had a quick question. I have a 2009 BMW x5 and i wondereed where you got the number of the relay. Thanks so much great videos 👍
I had same problem with 320i 2008. We pulled all fuses out and put them back in and it started. No cost! Though the keyless entry stopped working. I put the little fuse in the wrong place. All good now!
Adrian van wichen I’m going to try this. I have 08 328i and I been having a no crank no start issue. I called the dealership and they want $148 per hr and that’s just to find the issue
Just a note: At 2:30 on the video turning over is always confused or mixed in with cranking and running, your car is clearly turning over but not starting which is also same as cranking but not starting,
same thing on 2003 e60 530d hope it will crank up normally , 1 bolt has been loosed and it still was cranking well then i tightened it up and had some bad noises + not cranking easily hope it will help🙌
Hey there, new to BMW. I have a 2007 740Li. It intermittently would shut down each time you tried starting it. Had to open the trunk and wiggle the negative battery cable then the power would be restored. One night it shut down completely. It cranks good but will not start. Could I have a similar problem? Also, where is my fuel relay located? I think it's im the trunk. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again
That happened to me and another thing that happened to me is I was driving out of my backyard to the road and it cut out but came right back on I remember maybe once or twice I've have an issue so I believe with the mobilizer because you get in it and go to turn it on and it does nothing so I watched a ton of videos and taught myself most of the stuff didn't work what I did is you'd locked the doors unlocked them in wire inside with the key got out lock the car with the key unlocked in the door Thor and make sure to hear the chirp God in put my foot on the brake and it would start the day that all this happened I did that at least 5 different times would not start when the house came out it started turning it off and I'm about 4 times before I've left then get to the store turn it off to this day won't start even has a new Ignition in it I can hear the field pump running so I took the back seat out I'm gonna try starter fluid this next time but I could hear the feel pump buzz when I took the seat up
My 2006 BMW X5 3.0i won't start either, very similar as this vehicle. However, my problem is a little different, but may require same solution. It started with a brief tapping noise behind the firewall on passenger's side (where the glove box is located), directly after shutting off the ignition. But no problems starting/running, until about 7-10 days later, when it died while idling in a parking lot. However, it restarted okay - then died in traffic about one-half mile away...grrr. BMW is parked, dead in the water, after the $150 tow job. I am going to give this Fuel Pump Relay solution a try, because it's worth the nominal investment - especially if it works. Thank you.
I only have the right white relay and not the left one which you replaced. There’s not even a slot for the one you replaced. Anybody have any idea where the fuel pump relay is located in 2005 bmw 530d e61?
hey Oscar the fuel rail has pressure so i assume the pump runs but then i have spark but no run any ideas what the cause could be its a 735i N62 motor 2204 model..
Great question, I started with the basic diagnostic which was the relay check, if that didn't fix the issue, I would have tested the fuel line compression to make sure it was at the correct psi, if that didn't fix the issue I would have sprayed some starting fluid on the intake and see if the car attempt to start. Luckily the relay was the the fix, I always likes to start from the basic or least experience fix. Some folks start swapping parts such as the fuel pump thinking that's the issue. I hope this helps.
I did a diagnostic and it showed problems of camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. Nothing about any relay. Can we confirm that it is not a problem of relay? [we checked all the fuses and relays, they looked OK]. What do you think?
@@BMWEMBMWEM-rk3fz I have the camshaft sensor error. I heard that if you get both the camshaft sensor error and crankshaft sensor error it usually means the timing chain has come off.
Crank, no start is often fuel or fuel components. If it cranks then there is most likely not an electrical problem. If it was just recently running then it is most likely not an engine problem. Thus, what is left are fuel components. If your vehicle has good fuel and is full of fuel then the most likely culprits are: a weak fuel relay, a bad fuel filter, or a bad fuel pump. If the car was recently running with no hesitation then it most likely is not a bad fuel pump. That then leaves the fuel relay and/or fuel filter as the most likely culprits. from: christansdad
I got a question bro, will it be jerking and stop then hard to start? Mine have this problem yesterday which i got a smal white smoke come up before start and it went back to normal. After i park it start to do like this, jerk and stop then hard to start. I do some reboot but still the same. So tge fuel relay pump is the problem? Mine same series 525i
Can use some advise on 06 X5 E53 now turns over but not start. I bought s new ignition off Ebay and still apart, Key also sticks in start position that happened when 1st trying to start out of store when I shut it off at store and immediately turned off and tried to start and it just turned over. I bought an ignition box off Ebay installed it and same thing. Before that it won't turn over and I learned how to get it to start by doing a lock unlock sequence and all doors & windows closed... Love this X5 but been big start problems.
Hello my e60 has the same problem should i change it as well or it is another problem, at the first place i though there was no fuel in the tank bcs the backside of the car was not smoking and the starter was working?! Im new with BMWs and it kinda strange to me...
Hi, i need help with my car problem, the problem is my car crank but won't start, i checked injector signal, there's no signal, i checked ignition coil, there's also no signal, then i checked all fuse and relay, there's no fault. After that i checked all the wiring on engine, there's no problem with the wire harness, lastly i checked the ecm/ecu, i bring it to ecu repair shop they checked no faulty and i pay charge for checking usd60, after that, i try to start again, its still won't start, then i bring the ecm/ecu again to the bmw agent for checking with charge usd100, they also said there's no faulty with the ecu/ecm. I checked the fuel pump its working, i checked the pressure of fuelpump its working perfect. I checked the immobiliser, also no problem, Im still wondering with the problem and why my ignition coil and injector no power and no signal. Fault code on obd is P0341, P101b and P1061 , i tried clear, after a few minutes its appear again, anyone know what the problem? My car BMW 320i E90 2006, engine N46
I’ve got a bmw 118d 2005 when I pulled up to work it cut out… then when started knocked off on its own now it just cranks brings a fault for injector 4 but apparently everything is good Any idea?

Nice video but it didn't fix my problem I actually had a P0 12 error come up and it cranks but no start or just not run? I see! And a red car and service that pops up briefly and goes away, it's bizarre how just changing out of valve cover gasket would crop up with a problem like this?
I'm trying to locate this relay on my 06 X5 4.8is. Bought the relay, but looked at rear fuse box, glove box fuse box, under steering wheel! Can't find it! 🤔 Wanna start there before checking fuel pump, etc. She cranks, but no love.

Wonderful! Would that work for a bmw x5 30i 2009? Mine wont start.
BRO YOU ARE A LIFESAVER
Great video , if my scan tool says fuel pump is operating correctly and it still won't fire , I changed my fuel injectors because it was running so rich so even if I scan and says fuel pump good do I change the relay?
ended up being the wiring to the relay but without your video ID never known where to start
nice...i am glad to hear you are back on the road.
What did you do for the wiring? I changed my relay and it cut off on me while driving again. I just put the old one back in and it started right up?
@@zillahedghill1135 ground cable?
Man i will try it. And even though if it wont work. Thank you for showing and saving money on those damn dealership mechanics who make use pocket empty.
can also be the ground cable try to help;)
Hi oscar, I have crank and no start, did you have fuel pressure on the fuel rail if relay is bad?
You wont have fuel pressure if your fuel pump relay is not working..also try unplug your maf sensor and see if your car starts...
I have the same issue I thought it was the battery but I will try this hope it works appreciate the videos
TownBizz510 did this fix the issue on your car
Sooo did it fix your issue or not??
did it fix it
Hey Oscar, i saw this video and i had a quick question. I have a 2009 BMW x5 and i wondereed where you got the number of the relay. Thanks so much great videos 👍
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
Ur very welcome
I had same problem with 320i 2008. We pulled all fuses out and put them back in and it started. No cost! Though the keyless entry stopped working. I put the little fuse in the wrong place. All good now!
Adrian van wichen I’m going to try this. I have 08 328i and I been having a no crank no start issue. I called the dealership and they want $148 per hr and that’s just to find the issue
Great job l have learned a lot thanks
Great video💡
I replaced the fuel filter, and the Crank sensor, I have yet to replace this relay! Hope this works. Thanks
@@vanillasf please let us know if it works for you.
You're the mannn! Let me try that and let you know what happens.
Well what happened?
Well?????
WELL
excellent video, thank you bro
What was the replacement relay number,my auto stores can't find it
Great video thanks OsCAR
Just a note: At 2:30 on the video turning over is always confused or mixed in with cranking and running, your car is clearly turning over but not starting which is also same as cranking but not starting,
same thing on 2003 e60 530d hope it will crank up normally , 1 bolt has been loosed and it still was cranking well then i tightened it up and had some bad noises + not cranking easily hope it will help🙌
What year BMWs are you working on?
I have a 328i 07 .not sure where the relay is on my vehicle!
2004 525i
Hey there, new to BMW.
Thank. You. So. Much. Bro
Mine cranked for like 6-8 cool seconds then turned on this has never happened before is it the fuel pump?
That happened to me and another thing that happened to me is I was driving out of my backyard to the road and it cut out but came right back on I remember maybe once or twice I've have an issue so I believe with the mobilizer because you get in it and go to turn it on and it does nothing so I watched a ton of videos and taught myself most of the stuff didn't work what I did is you'd locked the doors unlocked them in wire inside with the key got out lock the car with the key unlocked in the door Thor and make sure to hear the chirp God in put my foot on the brake and it would start the day that all this happened I did that at least 5 different times would not start when the house came out it started turning it off and I'm about 4 times before I've left then get to the store turn it off to this day won't start even has a new Ignition in it I can hear the field pump running so I took the back seat out
I'm gonna try starter fluid this next time but I could hear the feel pump buzz when I took the seat up
My 2006 BMW X5 3.0i won't start either, very similar as this vehicle. Thank you.
Please let us know if it worked for you. Thanks for your feedback
Just use the original relay/fush removal tool. Not feddling with screwdrivers.
I only have the right white relay and not the left one which you replaced. There’s not even a slot for the one you replaced. Anybody have any idea where the fuel pump relay is located in 2005 bmw 530d e61?
Love your car 2004 BMW 525i
That’s good and thank you for the video
hey Oscar the fuel rail has pressure so i assume the pump runs but then i have spark but no run any ideas what the cause could be its a 735i N62 motor 2204 model..
Try spraying some starter fluid on the intake throttle, and if it cranks up like it wants to run, than change your fuel pump.
Great 👍🏼 thanks bro
Thank you bro,Te debo la vida,me funciono😀
Hi Oscar. Great video. Question, how did you know that the fuel pomp relay was dead? Did you make a diagnostic? Did you test the relay? Thanks a lot.
@@BMWEMBMWEM-rk3fz please did you find out what was wrong? I’m having the same issue
@@erhoboy6621 I changed the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. After that, I did a diagnostic, no more errors.
How did you diagnose the problem and came up with that solution?
I bought s new ignition off Ebay and still apart,
Key also sticks in start position that happened when 1st trying to start out of store when I shut it off at store and immediately turned off and tried to start and it just turned over. I bought an ignition box off Ebay installed it and same thing.
Before that it won't turn over and I learned how to get it to start by doing a lock unlock sequence and all doors & windows closed...
Love this X5 but been big start problems.
Is this same with 2006 e60??
nice video thank you, save time and money.. love it post more anything you have problem .
btw, i couldnt find that relay in that place, do u have another location?
Look up a fuse diagram for your specific car
Finally i found below AC microfilter inside engine trunk (passenger side)
They're also under the hood under cabin filter box.
Hello my e60 has the same problem should i change it as well or it is another problem, at the first place i though there was no fuel in the tank bcs the backside of the car was not smoking and the starter was working?!
Im new with BMWs and it kinda strange to me...
Hi their , I would change the relay first , start their and than test the fuel pump pressure to make sure the fuel pump is doing its job
@@oscars-autorepair3236 yes i will, thanks for your help
Is it in the same place on a 1998 528i?
The obd scanner shows the fuel pump rele problem?
Nice easy fix, but the poor starter might need replacing after 8 times of cranking on this old Bimmer .
It’s just a relay... you really didn’t have to drag this video so long.

Is this a common problem for bmw? My e46 is doing the same thing, crank but won’t start.
I am the same breakdown. However, it is a big problem that my 7 series does not have a relay. It will cost a lot because the airbag module needs to be replaced. I saw the video well.
What’s up brotha hey my car just left me and it has same symptom, tomorrow ima try and do what you did, hopefully it works
check also out ground cable.
My 2006 330i doesn't carry the relay. Carries a fuelpump control module that has to be coded, no idea how to preform that task.
Did you try in the rear hatch on the passenger side? I have a 08 x5 and that's where mine was

Where is the fuel pump relay on a 328i x drive 2009 located? I'm having the same cranking no start situation
On the 2009 328i X drive, I don't think there is a fuel pump relay. They only have the fuel pump control module it is located in the trunk on passenger side. You will need to pull the insulator to get to it. I hope this helps you.
you can get the fuel pump control module online for 30-60 bucks.
