But a little Googling suggests "At My Most Beautiful" and if you're listening for it, you can hear it, although its pretty understated. They may have other songs where they use that instrument too, though, if that's not the one you're thinking of.
Lovely instrument. I used to have one too. I was given the plates and the covers but no combs, so I had a friend machine the combs out of mahogany. I'd built it in such a way that by tonguing you could achieve an extra octave at the top. Unfortunately, it was lost by the removal company (along with all my other possessions).
The low E on that thing shatters the polite Western European concert music tradition. Wipes it clean. My goodness, what Alban Berg could have done with this thing!
i have a modest collection of diatonics and chromataics and i really want a bass. i love the sound, it always kinda sounded like what a big spring would sound like. thnx for showing it to us.

When you were moving down the upper register I was wondering if your piercing was going to get jammed into one of the lower holes. Be careful! And how could you play the low E on that and not smile?

Thats gonna be my next harmonica, I play mostly Hohners Big River harps, Marine Band and Blues Harp. I have everything from little lady to the big chord harmonica. Sounds awesome. Love Lee Oskers too.

@@gewglesux I’m not an expert but I would think a chord harp wouldn’t be able to produce the same type of bass. The 58 and 78 bass harps both start at the same note of E2. The 78 just goes up a half octave more than the 58. Keep in mind these things are heavy, and I’m sure the 78 must be heavier, lol I think as a beginner you’re better off with the 58 since it’s cheaper and lighter, which might help to keep you from getting discouraged. Do you play regular harmonica already and just want to try playing the bass harmonica?

I have a Dannecker harp so i am no stranger to very heavy Diatonics (but not obviously not a heavy as a Bass Harp)I was thinking that this might be a great time to try to learn something new.. either this or possibly a Chord Harp. I think Chord Harps are a little less expensive- but that isn't the deciding factor.

Green Acres was what brought me here. I always wondered what instruments they used, and Bass Harmonica was what pops up when I looked that up.
The musician who played it on both Sanford and Sons and Green Acres shows is named Tommy Morgan. He also played it on The Beach Boys, “Pet Sounds.”
