    Hey OC - I just got to sharpen a little something - a snorkel is not a snorkel -
    Back when I didn’t understand much about diving yet I looked to buy me some snorkels and the description of one of them was like “Bottom one-way valve to breathe water out & Top “”special-technology”” valve made to prevent the entrance of water from splashing” -
    Putting this idea to practice this snorkel kept clogging and have made it very difficult for me to breathe many times - until I disassembled the upper valve so that the top will be open (although there’s still a hollowed plastic supposed to act as a wave guard but I think that I’ll remove that too since it’s unnecessary and a little too red to my likings (black on black was not available)).
    So yea - forget about special tech and all that - go as simple as possible, at the end of the day that works the best.
    Good point about bubbles coming out of the snorkel scaring away fish, I’ll have to buy me a new snorkel.
    Also - if I’m not mistaking - nowadays you’re using carbon fiber fins right ?
    What can you say about the difference between CF and FB fins ?

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  2 роки тому

      I think you misunderstood me there when I say ''a snorkel is just a snorkel'' What i meant is to buy the most basic snorkel you can for spearfishing. The expensive ones with valves are shit and cause too much noise.
      Carbon Fibre fins are great, much lighter on the ankles and still heaps of power. I wont be going back to fibreglass

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit

      Double wrap and single wrap is where the shooting line connected to the spear either follows the shaft up to muzzle then down to the line release then back up to connection on speargun (single wrap) or double, when it returns down to the line release again then back up to the muzzle) - this is for powerful guns, generally shorter guns or a rollergun setup

    Can you elaborate a little bit about the choice of using dyneema instead of monofilament? I know dyneema can take a beating, but do you ever have tangle problems or noticed your spear moving slower with dyneema?
    Also, which diameter dyneema are you using for the double wrap shooting line?

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  4 роки тому

      Cheers, I started with carbon, and now have two smaller alloy guns. I personally prefer carbon. much lighter and stronger. If you have the money and are buy for example a 110-130cm gun I would go carbon. The problem with my alloy guns in with the reel attached, after you shoot a fish, the gun sinks as its too heavy. Carbon is more bouyant and will still float with the reel on. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying when fighting/dispatching a fish. Also check out Rob Allens videos on carbon vs alloy barrel.

    Hey brother - why don’t you use coated lead weights ?
    Don’t you mind touching the unprotected lead ?
    I don’t know if you notice that or not but even touching the lead can leave some grey lead residue on your hand - so you would want to wash your hands and avoid touching your face and sensitive parts.
    I just recently have purchased some coated weights although I still need my old - uncoated ones as well until I’ll buy some more or coat the existing ones.

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  2 роки тому

      Because even on free spool on the reel, which I wouldn't recommend as there will be line everywhere, It will still create drag/slow shaft down greatly once starting to peel off reel. it only takes a few seconds longer to do a double wrap and needed on a smallr gun like mine for longer shots to make use of the powerful roller setup

      i know you need a shooting line so at times the spear can be pushed through fish and retied to reel line but,
      i mean why/do you use a shooting line thats long enough for the double wrap and then have it tide to reel line.
      when you could achieve as many wraps as you want from the reel line before it peels line from reel its self , is it just to stop any damage to the reel line on rocks etc , if ya get me or am i not getting you and you are using the reel line to do a 2nd shooting line wrap,😂
