      It's fascinating how their thought influence is intertwined and bring many of us on a similar path. I guess there are many others who will end up here. Especially those who couldn't let go of their spirituality, despite the harsh influence of the modern skeptical world, where any notion of such ideas should make you feel ashamed and somehow inferior to the intelligence of the scientific community. Again, it is fascinating to observe and be a part of it.

    I've been practicing Wim's breathing techniques and cold water therapy for a little over a year. When I started I was detoxing from opiates, 20 years + of addiction. If you know anything about opiate detox then you know trying to describe it is impossible. A detox on this level is beyond just discomfort or pain - it is a painful rebirth full of overwhelming symptoms familiar to the body, only at such intense levels that it becomes nearly impossible to overcome.
    During and after my detox I began these techniques, and I found myself feeling again. Feeling, just feeling. Which is huge because I had been so separated from feeling anything real for so damn long. Combined with working out and yoga, changing my diet a little and just being kind to myself again began shaping me into a wonderment of emotion and clarity.

      @@haidermir4605 this is a repost, but did something for me albeit not for drugs just experimental value.
      Also… 20 min saunas 4-7 times a week has huuuuge health benefits maybe try that as well.
      “ Your wrong. Wim Hoff is completely onto something for humanity and science.
      I tried a milder experiment, (without breathing technique) BUT in doing so the first FEELING I experienced was to BREATHE.
      Try this since your such a skeptic; but I’ll be original like Wim Hoff and share with you:
      1. Take a shower… increase temp to your heat threshold over 5-7 min period.
      READY FOR SUCKER PUNCH?
      2. Instantaneously turn HOT to COLD. Expose all areas of your body to the cold. You WILL be induced to breathe… or HYPERVENTILATE. Stay in the COLD until you feel a sense of warm ness over your body. That’s your body EVOLVING. Then notice once your out of the shower you feel even warmer.
      Now I anecdotally see where he got the breathing technique from. The ice water forced it on him and he ACCEPTED the bodies powers to evolve
      Try it If you got the balls. Then get back to me 🤙😎💯🔥”
      Good luck brother

I can handle it like a cold shower..hope this is helpful for someone else :)

      I feel you. I've been doing Wim Hof method under supervision of my friend who's a certified instructor taught by Wim. It's difficult to describe how much it's improved my wellbeing. I'm so blessed to have my best friends just as hyped and doing this together. I did 8.5 minutes in 34-degree ice water today, and I could barely do 3 minutes only 3 months ago. The breathing exercises took me time to learn, and I have learned to surrender to the ice. I am now able to stop shivering by controlling my breath and being able to access a deeper level of consciousness.

    • @matthewbatchelor3547
      @matthewbatchelor3547 5 років тому +42

      Actually the science behind deep breathing is simple - I believe breathing deeper has the same effect as hyperventilating - people who hyperventilate are removing CO2 from their system - as after all it’s the CO2 build up that causes you to breath so hence deeper breathing removing the residual CO2 from your system. On a side note this can be quite dangerous without proper training especially under water as you can pass out and so should always have a spotter

    • @dawidda
      @dawidda 5 років тому +49

      @Mr Shikigami No.... hyperventilating can cause damage, The breath method Wim Hof uses is extremely similar to the method that freedivers use, and if done correctly does not harm the body in any way, Do not confuse hyperventilating with controlled breath methods.

    He trained his body to release adrenaline on will without interference from common factors such as fear (suppression of cellular respiration/energy production). These hormones speed up cellular respiration and generate more energy/heat. The same effect is noticed from taking stimulant drugs. When the body is thriving with energy and lack of fear - dopamine produces a surge of euphoria.
    Basically if you expose yourself to extreme uncomfortable situations repetitively, your brain learns to overcome the anxiety that is associated with that situation. When endorphins are released you can feel either happy/energetic/warm (in a situation where you are not fearful) or you can feel depressed/anxious/cold (in a situation where you are fearful).
    Give a man a powerful stimulant drug to release endorphins and he too will feel happy, generate body heat and will be able to withstand cold temperatures in shorts for a period of time. In Wim Hof's case, he learned how to induce endorphins in a more natural manner.

And I have more energy than I did when I was 18 even though I drink much much less coffee. I've also amazingly been able to hold my breath for over 4 minutes. I am not advocating freezing. I do recall going for bicycle rides in the winter up North, and if I was not wearing enough layers, I would start to get very cold at the end of the 2 hour ride. Once when I did this, I shivered for hours trying to get warm again. It was not fun. Balance of the elements is important.

    People glaze over this with snarky comments because they like to feel comfortable knowing they're "smarter" than everybody and aren't falling for Wim's "tricks" or chock it up to simple shit everybody has known for years to diminish what he's saying. What they fail to realize is it isn't just about breathing and going for a swim in a frozen lake. It's about mentality and self improvement. How many of these people typing at their computer right now feel like shit because they waste so much time on the internet or they feel like their lives are going nowhere? How many of these smart asses bottle up their anguish behind snide remarks to hide it from the world, I wonder. So much changes when you accept a positive outlook in life and it took me a long time to achieve the feeling and peace I have now.
    Every little failing and shortcoming I had would just pile on more stress and anguish to the point where it crippled me and made me suicidal. Even after coming out of the lows and having felt like I had conquered my insecurities and depression, it always returned because I thought myself stronger than it. It wasn't until I put my ego aside and realized that I had to succeed not because of my image, but because of necessity for my own happiness. I realized it wasn't about life becoming easy more than it was about embracing difficulty.
    What he's saying here is a lot deeper than what it seems and I just wish more people would listen, not for Wim's fame or to his credit, but for themselves.

    It is funny how the average person will react to this sort of thing as 'crazy', "why you breathing like that?", "why would you want to swim in winter, are you crazy?". Shows the mentality of the modern isolated and detached person, with unrealistic protection habits, which are ironically detrimental. Why would anyone think such an incredibly sensory experience, embracing nature and testing your body, which is incredibly adaptable, is crazy? Only thing that is crazy is modern living, mentality and detachment from nature and true self.

      @RadAlarm 9 років тому +27

      +John Schweiger I used to be like that too. I suggest trying the breathing exercise (google wim hof breathing) for a few rounds before your next shower. Then when you're taking a hot shower, prepare yourself mentally with the breathing and imagine yourself warming up from the inside. Then turn the water all the way to cold. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to resist as long as you keep focusing on taking deep breaths and trying to resist it in a calm way. Then when you turn off the water you'll feel all warm and invigorated. I've been doing it for a few weeks now. Feels great.

    Holy crap THIS WORKS! Two days in a row I've managed to take a shower in pure cold water, and it worked on my first try! After showering with warm water I've started to decrease warm water and started that fast-paced breathing in thru nose, out thru mouth, more air in than out, for 30-60s, and I held the last breath for a bit more and thats when the coldness disappeared and was then showering for a couple of minutes in just cold water and I wasnt cold at all. Also, maybe visualizing fire up my spine helped as well as I've read it somewhere.. Anyway, awesome!

    4:50 hyperventilating changes the PH in your body giving a sensation of being high, and the breathing technique is called purging. Divers use purging all the time as it purges co2 from the body... allowing people to breath longer.

    • @brandonm1088
      @brandonm1088 4 роки тому +2

      @S Han Corbin is referring to free diving. Yes in Scuba purging is done to clear water from the mask but that's not what they are referring to. Also in diving you don't have an "oxygen tube" if you were to breathe pure oxygen on a dive you would die from oxygen toxicity.
