How to hang an IKEA pegboard without screws, using Command Strips

  • We head to college in two weeks and we will be hanging up several IKEA pegboards to help with dorm room organization. However, our dorm room doesn’t allow residents to put any holes in the wall. I am a huge Command Strip fan! I have learned over the years that you must follow the directions and not rush the process (if you want them to hold).
In this video I will share how I hung the pegboards using Command Strips. These pegboards make great dorm room decor and are very reasonably priced at IKEA. And there are so many accessories that fit into the board to hold all of those dorm room essentials.
See my blog post for photos and written instructions.

Perfect help...I returned a peg board to Ikea the other day. I wasn't ready to do it yet. But I think this will help me get ready because I want to put one board up in my smaller kitchen to hang pans. Or rather skillets I guess I should say. And I think this will work very well. You do give a good clear explanations, good visuals and I appreciate you not bombarding me with stuff that I don't need to know. Thanks.

This came up on my recommended videos and I just came to flag that if you're using Command strips, please be careful with how much weight you're putting on your SKADIS pegboard. I put two of the smaller pegboards up on different walls with varying items and weights on them (definitely not the 7.2kg the strips say is the maximum) around 6 months ago using a similar method to this. Both have since fallen down. The first fell after about 2 months and actually had the lightest load, and the second went down this weekend. So they lasted a good amount of time, but they ultimately didn't hold for more than a few months, and the second one falling did cause quite a bit of damage to the things I had on the pegboard and the £250 printer which was beneath it! The sound of the second pegboard falling in the middle of the night was also absolutely terrifying!

Can you provide more details on which adhesive is coming loose? Is it the Velcro that holds them together or the adhesive that attaches them to the wall/bar?

Isn’t it easier to just put the bar on the wall first , rather than putting it on the peg board, leveling it on the wall, then pulling the peg board off the wall, unscrewing the bar from the peg board and then putting the bar back on
the wall, after you secure the command strips to the wall? Don’t get me wrong, I think you did a great 👍🏽 job. I was just curious to know if it’s easier to just secure the bar to the wall first.

    • @PWingert1966
      @PWingert1966 3 роки тому

I also noticed your initial application did not appear to be level. if you just mount the bar, you can use a handheld level to level it before you apply it to the wall. For spacing, you can attach it to the panel mark where the bars land on the wall then removes the bars from the panel.

Please do not use sticky strips for hanging this at all, nail it to the wall as IKEA intended. Picture Hanging Strips will separate from each other and the board will fall as the board with items creates too much forward pulling/peeling weight which Command cannot cope with, ask 3M directly - the number is on the back of the pack and they will tell you NO - don't do it!

This board will fall down!!! Command strips need to be applied as per the pack instructions which is a maximum of four sets vertically (for shear strength) definately not sideways or as many sets as seen. Strips must be applied to flat surfaces for full adhesive contact board side and wall side to ensure strips will fully connect with each other. The maximum depth of the board can be no deeper/thicker than 2.4 inches/6cm to avoid forward pulling peeling weight which will cause disconnection of the strips from each other. I would not use Command Picture Hanging Strips for this pegboard.

    Hello!
May I know any updates on this Skadis 2 years later? Are the strips still holding up?

I'm also interested in knowing how well it has held up

@@mattmtong I think this will depend on the wall material you stick the 3M strips to and how heavy the things you are going to put on to it.
I stuck one on a matte painted wall and a glossy painted wall.
Base on guess, the one I stuck on the glossy wall was heavier. It fell just a few months later.
The other one is still hanging there.

May I know the weight of the pegboard ... I just brought 40*60cm magnet white board and now just wondering how to hang them on walls without drilling ???does the command strips holds whiteboards as well ???

I've never hung a magnet board. I use the information on the Command strips as a guide for how much weight they can hold. I'm unsure of the weight of the pegboards, but you could look that up on the Ikea website. I had originally looked it up when I did the project.

I thought about using magnets. Are these boards magnetic?

tried this earlier today and after a few hours, my pegboard unfortunately fell :(( wondering how I can make this work because I really can’t put holes in my wall

Did you leave it the amount of time directed on the packaging before putting it up on the wall? Also, did you press the bar directly against the wall? You have to take the pegboard back off the bar and then push directly on the bar to the wall. If you just push the pegboard against the wall, the bar doesn’t get enough direct pressure. Those are a couple of things that may be the problem. Others could be that the wall isn’t clean enough, too much weight on the board. But I mostly bet the bar wasn’t pushed directly to the wall. That’s an easy one to miss (and the problem I had when I hung my first one).

My daughters stayed up during her school year (August-March, ended early with Covid).

I did this because I was so excited to see it could be done without screws and I set it up exactly as you did but the damn command strip sticky side is not sticky at all! I took the paper off and it was just a little tacky but in no way would hold even the board bare. Help!

Is is the Command strip brand? I find that works better than other brands. Also, did you get the 16 pound strips, or even the 12 pound strips? It should be sticky. I would return them/exchange them.

@@arthurdobbenie4625 on their website it says they can be used horizontal or vertical. But vertical is optimal.
