Aaah, the gibson tuck, my go-to when I'm to lazy to curl my hair or the humidity decides to ruin it as soon as I walk out of my building!
Actually, my entire vintage style journey started with a gibson tuck now when I think about it as I wore it to my cousin's birthday after which I decided to try out wearing vintage style more often. After a week "more often" tuned into each day and now, almost three months later I'm not regretting it at all!
Between you and Bernadette Banner, it seems to be a hairstyle tutorial weekend!
I recall seeing many older ladies wearing this style when I was a child. It was very popular, as was the Victory Roll. I had that done by one of the older women for a ball I had to attend and it looked great decorated with Aussie wildflowers from the bush. They used long stris of torn up sheets to create it and wrapped my long fringeless hair around the cloth pieces then pinned it all securely.
So helpful! My hair is quite long, so learning that you can pull your hair through multiple times is a game changer for me. It finally works! Thank you!
You are so beautiful, elegant, and love your accent and style! We need more women who dress the way you do. ♥️♥️♥️
To keep my hats in place, I buy little clips (The sort they use for the clip-in hair-extensions) and sew a couple of those on. I do it for all my berets and straw summer hats and my kids hats. :)
Step 1: grow your hair out long enough to do an updo. 😛 (I'm still working on this one after I lost a lot of my hair to illness and medication)
Jamaican black caster oil and hyaluronic acid on the scalp help a lot with hair growth. I lost a ton of hair due to chemical damage to my scalp and it worked for me, hair loss is tough to deal with.
You can do it on shorter hair! It just takes some time and practice :)
Same here friend! Lost a good amount of mine due to Lyme disease and heavy medication for 3 years straight. Finally filling back in! Before I got sick, my hair was down to my waist and was thick and dark brown. I had to cut my hair short because I was bedridden for a year, and it is now thickening again, but it's still short! Goal now is to grow out my long hair again🥰
BEST hair tutorial music EVER
This video makes the Gibson Tuck/Roll easy to understand and to do. I love the music--it put you in a by-gone era when these hairdos were all the rage.
Really enjoyed this! Thanks! I showed this to my mother and she said you have a classic Audrey Hepburn look. She also said you're makeup is perfect. It's noticeable without being too bright. :) you definitely inspire me to be more open with my love of vintage things! Now I must go and listen to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra :)
Adorable. And so is the hair.
Looks amazing for a long hair look
Genius! I need to put my hair up for work and these options will help a ton, thank you.
This ladies smile made my whole entire day ☺️
It is so helpful to have that mirror behind you for hair tutorials! All the looks were amazing, and they look so great on you!
Need to grow my short hair out. What a Classic and Elegant style. I want to try it.
Me: genuinely trying to follow the tutorial to the best of my ability
My hair: 🔃🔄↙️⬅️↖️⤵️↗️⬆️↘️
My arms are sore from trying to do this for so long and now I feel like crying...guess I'll try again later. 🙄
Update: I finally did it!! 😭 I need to practice hiding the bobby pins better but I did it
Literally me every single time I try anything! XD I feel your pain! :P
So proud of youuu !!!! 🎉🎉 Morale of the story, never give up !! 🤍 (I am exactly the same haha still learning but definitely slowwwly improving to the point it is not tooo 'messy' aesthetically speaking but ohh my, always fighting to fix these bobby pins !!! they look more than lost and actually hold parts of my hair that didn't even need support at the first place😭🙈 and when I take them out... it's a game over 🪦But anyways, one step at a time and all these mental breakdowns after watching parts of the video on loop will be worth it at the end 🍀🍀
😂 That made me laugh so hard!
I never thought to use a hair net, not sure why as I do have one. Quite lovely, will be trying the first and last ones!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! I have been wanting to learn this forever
Such a beautiful and classy lady!!🥰 I look foward to all her videos!
This is lovely and helpful! Thank you so much! I also really love the background music. I'm a huge fan of the 1910s and 20s (I live in a 1923 bungalow which I am restoring to its former glory), and I listen to the music a lot while I'm working on the house. I also enjoy dressing up with my friends on occasion for little historical parties we host. So I'm certain your content will come in handy for me on more than one occasion. 😊❤️
I like how you show the struggle. I have always struggled so much with the gibson tuck/roll and in the end i gave up on it alltogether and learned the halo braid and milkmaid braid, haha
You look soooo chic and elegant! Thank you for the tips, I'm definitely trying these styles. I thought the last style was the most flattering on you. So cute!!!
I haven't worn this hairstyle in a while and now I want start wearing it again 😍
How beautiful these hairstyles look!
Yes! More Gibson stuff! I can't use any of it, but I love it. 😅
I love vintage hair styles so much, they're so stylish and pretty!
Adore the hair bow accessory on the top! Really adds to the look! Definitely going to chop one of my hair donuts in half now 🤣!
Girl you look stunning in these hairdo’s 😍
Really love all these looks! Can’t wait to try them out🥰
Thank you! I love your hair💕
Ah, i love your hair tutorials! They will always help me, I'm so happy, that you did it ❤️
It’s very simple and easy to follow the instructions. The room set up is perfect to see the side and back of her hair. Thank you so much for posting this video 👏👏👏👏
Well done! Concise info and great results! (I really enjoy your chattier videos as well, but this is perfect for a tutorial!)
Also like the idea of a hairnet instead of spray!
Been doing the third one a few times already but now I'm inspired to do it more often!
Such a cute hairstyle!!! The first tutorial is so easy.
Ahh this is excellent for school tomorrow!! Thank you so much 😊 xx
Es schaut so schön und elegant aus
Omg this tutorial is everything 😍 thank you 🙏♥️
This was very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this!
This hairstyles look sooo good!
On a different note, I never learned how to use those types of bobby pins and make them stay in my hair😅
Love your videos!
I cannot wait to have a bit longer hair to do these hairstyles. Thank you for the tutorial ❤
I ended up looking like John Thornton's mother in North & South, but I kind of like that vibe! Thank you for sharing. I will practice more! :)
When your hair is shorter than your life goals...
Well, it was fun watching
I was wondering how to do this the other day; great timing!
Amazing video! I really like it! I will try to recreate the hair style for sure :)
Very pretty. I shall try it! Thank you.
hairstyles without a tool is a life saver, I need more tutorial like that
Such classic looks! You're beautiful.
Oh my god so cute and I adore all berets and vintage hats and I’m always trying to find ways to wear them!! 😍
It looks so beautiful.✨✨ I love the old time❣🥰 Thank you for the nice video! 🙏🏼 I will save it in my playlist.⚓😍
thank you so much for the tutorial, it was very helpful 💚 and you're so pretty and your hair is so beautiful too ✨
I love this look! I have such terribly thick hair, I’m not able to do a ton of curls. This is one of my go-to vintage styles ❤️ I never thought about cutting the hair donut in half, that’s brilliant!
Thanks for the tutorial I'm going to try it! ❤️
That’s exactly the hairstyle I’ve been wanting to do for months! Thank you so much!! Tons of love from a Hufflepuff friend 💛🥰
Very nice, well explained.I Will practice it.Thanks 😉!
The hair is so healthy and shiny
I love this style. This was the hairstyle I had for my wedding day
Thank you, perfect for my 40’s theme tea party birthday that I’m going to shortly. Delightful video.
I love the music! In fact in the last video i saw there was a song from 1921 that I actual have on a 78 record. I often play it on my old gramophone
Beautiful hairstyle and easy 👌
Love your background music. It reminds me of those old movies. :-)
Beautiful!
Wow, your English is impeccable! I say this as I lived in Switzerland for a year and did my shopping in Weil Am Rein (don’t worry I paid tax!) and while most people speak some English it’s no where near as good as yours!
I just created the first version and it was surprisingly easy; i never manage to do these things yet here i am. Thank you! :*
You are so pretty! I love the color of your hair!
Thanks for the tutorial !!!
Great video, i was searching for something like it. To grab my heair for work and grab it good. Ty.
Tried the first one with my natural 3c/4a curls, which where a little tauted and not really combable and it worked like a dream 🥰 you saved me from a stressy hairwash 🤣
Thanks you so much ! You helped me a lot ❤
very practical for everyday people, palms up
thank you ❤❤❤❤❤ love it!
It's really beautiful 🥰
Me encantaron ❤❤❤
Marvelous.
Very nice video i liked the ease of having an elegant & sophisticated look...t y 💚👵
Love it 😻do you think it's possible to do it if you have a medium length hair (like just above shoulders length?) or there's something similar, maybe? Thank you Xx
Thanks for the tips. I'm Mary Poppins in a parade today, and while I used more pins than I want to hunt for later, it'll do. It's a bit more of a twirly roll in the back but looks good with my hat.
My mother used to use a pipe cleaner to roll the hair up. It was quite effective.
6:35 --- sooooo cute! ❤️🤗
I love your look. Just beautiful. You look like a real lady. Just elegant. ❤️
Lovely!!! Thanks
You look lovely! Great video!
Que bonito
I use a pretty headband. I place it over my hair, then wrap strand around the headband and secure with pins.
Yes, I heard of that option too! I need to try it 😊
I liked the video before watching 💜💜💜💜💜
Beautiful
I sing with a female a cappella group and we do a show about the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, so we all have to dress in suffragette style clothing. I thrifted my top, jacket, and pin, and made the skirt from scratch, but all anyone ever compliments is my hairstyle, which I learned from this video. It was SO easy and quick. Thank you!
Fun! My great grandma used to save her hair off of her hair brush, add it to a ball and roll her hair around that.
I swear you're a mind reader! I just wanted to look up how to do a gibson tuck (for a uni formal event), and here you are posting it. I sense a little Gemini vibing here, haha.
Ps. Does anyone know if it stays in place without a hair net? I have quite similar hair like Shirin - thick and heavy.
It usually stays in place even without a hairnet but when you move a lot or it's windy outside I would always recommend a hairnet. In general when you're outside. But of course it's up to you 😊
@@Shirinatra Thank you for your answer! 💕 I'll have to get a hairnet then, if I want to dance all night.
@@Shirinatra is this hairstyle suitable for 50s, or would it look démodé? And if so, do you have suggestions for 50s hairstyles for long hair (below shoulder)? Love your esthetic; hair, outfits... everything is so pretty. You are a great inspiration 😉
@@Poppy- I always wear it with my 50's inspired outfits and it goes very well 😊 That's very kind, thank you!
@@Shirinatra wonderful! I just decided to vintage up my wardrobe in 50s and I don't feel like cutting my hair at all to be perfectly accurate.
Thanks for the tutorial it’s very helpful! It’s a bit hard for my wavy coarse hair tbh :( I probably have to use large hair claw to keep it pinned in the back.
I need to get some of those hair nets. I usually do manage to get it fairly neat, but I have naturally curly and frizzy hair, so a hair net would help it look more together and prevent flyaways, I think.
I used to prefer the hair rat version, because I do like quite a bit of volume in my tucks, but then I forgot to trim my hair for three years, and I just do it without the hair rat now, there’s plenty of hair there.
The super long hair isn’t accurate to the 40s or 50s, but I’m also starting to be inspired by late Victorian and Edwardian styles, so I’ve decided to grow it as long as it will grow. I’m aiming to be able to sit on it, but that’s a few years away yet!
Thank you so much
Holds super well. Thank you! I have waist-length hair and it made sense for me not to wrap it all the way, so I had a more manageable hairstyle than completely let-down hair, but was still able to have hair falling down my back. I was just running out of ideas for new hairstyles so this is very exciting for me.
Check out the Pretty Shepherd, she has soooper long hair too and has given me lots of really lovely hairstyle ideas. I hope this helps 😊
Watching u is a perfect treat to eyes ❤❤❤
Thank you ❤
Perfect tutorial for Mildred Ratched Halloween costume hair!
