The major difference between them that you didn't cover was the color science between them. I am a portrait professional who has used medium format Phase One, Fuji, and Hasselblad and the Hasselblad color science is extremely good. When using the Fuji, I had to do much more color adjustment to get into a range that I felt somewhat comfortable with for portrait work, whereas the Hasselblad was spot on right out of the camera.
Exactly what I checked the comments for. “Why on earth did he not mention the differences in the color renditions.?” That alone is worth the difference in price to me, in favor of the Hasselblad, not to mention the better IBIS, better EVF. This seemed like a really strange omission on his part. But, yeah, if you buy cameras based solely on cost, or the need to use adapted lenses, and only using the camera for black and white, then the Fuji is the clear choice.
I will say also de Flash , 1/125 native flash sync is close to useless. Yes, you can use Hi-speed sync and lose a lot of power, but it's a massive difference. So if you use a lot of Flash outdoors the fuji is basically not an option.

By the way I’m now Fuji lover but when it comes to serious paid jobs I take my old H3dii just for the color accuracy!
Exactly. To me, the Fuji looked washed out and of course it is a preference, but the Hasselblad looks spot on.
@@Jswcat I would say Fuji is washed out, it’s good enough! It’s just that Hassy is SOO much better is tonal separation in each of the channel.
I remember watching this video a month ago and was wondering why the colours in the Fujifilm files look so vastly muted and lacking in pop and contrast compared to the Hassy files in the landscape comparison. Finally got around to downloading the raw files and now i understand.
Matt had the Fuji GFX100s shooting on the Eterna colour profile simulation during these tests-- which is a more muted, desaturated, less contrasty profile that's intended for cinema/filming. Once i set the colour profiles to Provia or Astia-- the colours definitely pop just as much as the Hassy files.
So i hope that answers some of the questions here on why there's such a vast difference in colour/pop between the two.

thanks, that makes a lot of sense and changes my perspective again. We are using Canon the colour is just right out of the camera imho. Seeing the portrait comparison worried me
Thanks for the info. I was very confused about the colors. I just watched another video where a guy compared colors from Xpro 1 vs X2D & he preferred his Xpro 1 apsc 16mp camera more. I love when people share honest opinions like that. Instead of trying to justify a purchase. I still wonder why Matt used Eterna out of all the great film simulations? That doesn't make sense to me. I almost feel like he was trying to give Hasselblad the upper hand in color science. Mr. Matt please dont get mad at me for my opinion. I'm a faithful viewer & would definitely go Hasselblad if I could afford it. Until then I'll stick with my poor man's fuji xt2. 🤓✌🏾

My guess was that he was probably filming/tested the video features on the gfx with eterna and forgot to switch it back when he made the comparison shots- other wise yeah i do agree it can be misleading to viewers when comparing the pictures side by side when it comes colour science difference between the two systems. Both pictures really ought to be set to their standard colour profile (fujifilm on provia)-- but eh what can you do, video is already out for months now.

@@JayMcKinsey that’s only something he can correct or explain for himself. I’m only stating the facts in which I’ve found (you can see for yourself by downloading the raws he provided and importing them into Lightroom/capture one).

X2D -- I already did. Since I already own 7 XCD+ 1 HCD lenses and no Fuji Lenses - I was locked into the system. BUT - the quality of the X2D images are spectacular, the SSD and IBIS are fantastic and the full expectation of more and better software and firmware is a big winner.
I prefer the X2D's colours in your shots AND I am one who did not care about the cost difference of the body for the shots I take.
BUT I do care about throwing away the vast costs of the lenses so the X2D became a no brainer for me.
The lack of AF-C, any 3-d tracking or face/eye tracking in all Hassi system bodies is an issue which I am EXPECTING Hassi to fix in firmware updates SOON as are live view and focus stacking when using Phocus 3.7; the use of cell phone to trigger and control the camera when an updated version of Phocus Mobile comes out in the "autumn" (this is direct from Hassi) and a bunch of other updates to as a minimum give us what we had in the X1D-ii. The other "issue" with the X2D is that unlike the X100s it does not offer any lossless compressed file saving options and shooting 14 or 16 bit gives the same file sizes -- so 220mb for the X2D (before importing into Phocus which converts the 3FR into fff and reduces the file size to 144mb) vs 97mb for the 100s I assume these were saved as lossless compressed (the uncompressed files on the 100s are 2x the size of the lossless compressed and 3.15 time the size of the compressed RAW files).
Thanks for the RAW files I downloaded them AND imported the X2D files and convert them to TIFF files using Phocus 3.7 and the 100S files RAW FILE CONVERTER EX powered by SILKYPIX (using development presets) then compared the images. There were 7 X2D and 9 Fuji images - but "only" 6 are directly comparable. Right out of the SilkyPix RAW conversion, using street and portrait presets, the 100s files look flat and underwhelming compared to those from the X2D and Phocus 3.7. I am sure regular Fuji shooters would know precisely how to get the best out of images shot with this system, but....
There are also a few other issues - different exposure and ISO settings were used for each shot on each camera (particularly for the night shots). But over all the image quality is as expected superb.
BTW You may want to fix the references to a different camera in the course overview for the lesson/set-up guide for the X2D....... perhaps you rushed this one out a little.😉

@@Ytytfytfujbyddutrxrt have the gfx system and lenses. Had old 500 series. Really loved it. Like the output and simple hassy x series. GF is great too with more work to get to the same point.

I have both. X2D for its leaf shutters, handling and colour science. The GFX for when a set of zooms is easier. Video is a non event. I'd not choose either, even if the HB had it. Whenever possible I choose the X2D over the GFX. I much prefer it as a camera system and I love the colour science. The Fuji files need a bit more work in post. They produce stellar images but it's just a bit easier on the Hasselblad. Overall the Fuji AF is slightly better when comparing like to like and it has CAF where the HB doesn't (yet?). But more often than not I'm already finding the IBIS advantages of the HB outweighs the slight AF advantage of the Fuji, for me.

Everyone is jumping on the 'colour science' because the images look different in the video and the Hassy files look better to most of us apparently - but thanks to Matt G for offering the files - I downloaded them, and it is literally a few seconds with a couple of sliders, mostly white balance, and the files are essentially the same in terms of colour. There is literally nothing significant between them

I’m surprised how lifeless the gfx photos look in comparison with the HB. Did you do any editing? I owned a 50s for many years I can’t remember them being that dull.
Coming from motion picture, would you be able to apply color space transforms to raw files like you would to raw video? Similar to ACES? To have the ‘same’ color science.
If so could this be automatically applied in capture one?
It's early days for the mark 2 Hasselblad. There will be further firmware updates. Probably more lenses too. The 16 bit colour of the Hasselblad is much more appealing to my eyes.
fuji's 100/100s also has 16 bit colour. with that said, unless you are heavy edit you might be able to make good use of the extra 2 bit colour depth.
The colour science alone blows Fuji into the weeds.

@@Ytytfytfujbyddutrxrt For me the skin tone on Fuji is just cool and too neutral but Hasselblad I just think it is overdone its warmish tone, . Hasselblad has better lens than Fuji. But with Fuji, I would have used some Leica M lens or Voitglander,
You can also adapt the HC line of lenses, even the 1st gen HC lenses (no af 1st gen) and get great results. Now if you're a ultra sharp fanatic you might not be into the HC lenses but they're still great.
Thanks for the comparison (always interested, even if not buying now). Would it be technically difficult, when comparing systems, or showing stills, to overlay them with the name of the camera and shutter speed/aperture/ISO on the screen (not in LR)? Just curious. It would make viewing the photos more informative at the time you are showing them.
I would probably go with the Hasselblad, because of the output quality of the lenses. Looking at your images, the Fuji also seems to be slightly cooler than the “blad”. But thanks for the video - I had my doubts on these two. But now I’m sure 👍🏼

It would be nice to see a focus range limiter on the Fuji. Something that lets you set the maximum/minimum focus distances during a shoot. That would. eliminate most of the big focus mis-pulls in controlled scenarios.
Those night city shots look completely different color-wise on the Hasselblad. What is the reason for that?
Great review. For me the. 1/125 flash sync native is a deal end. Even if it could do 1/200 it will be something. It seems to me that Matt is not a big flash outside user, so there is that. The other thing is Hasselblad colors out of the box, it cut your editing time a lot (if the d* focus system works). Colors out of the box, and that is just taste (and in particular colored people) will be Tha Hasselblad first, then Canon/Nikon depending on the subject, and then Sony and last by a wide margin Fuji. Clearly, this is just taste. Many people love film simulations. The lack of continuous focus of the Hasselblad is a major inconvenience (not even talking about. face or something just old-style continuous focus). Price is similar for me, I also love watches, and materials and craftsmanship have value.

Testing The x2d now and blown away by the colour and the files are just amazing. Colour is way better on the Hasselblad. Am I going to buy it. Hell yeah I want it. Take my money. The af on the x2d is getting an update with eye detection after what I have heard

Just looking at the photographs and color alone the Hasselblad wins outright, no contest.
A couple of questions: 1. Is it possible to record BRAW from X2D's HDMI? (I know it's possible with Fuji.) 2. When Fuji is in video mode and you record BRAW from Fuji's HDMI, is the sensor cropped or not? Thanks.

Accurate and professional as always, thanks Matt! As you say these cameras are quite different and hard to compare side by side. Yes, the design are just beautiful and ergonomically just gorgeous to work with. I've got a X1D II myself and have recognized an important difference between the two systems when it comes to picture quality depending on the lenses where I've found that the optics of the Hasselblad XCD lenses are superior to Fujinon lenses. Both sharpness, contrast and bokeh are slightly better than the Fuji. Do you agree?
If I was building a system it would be Fuji. More lens choice, lower cost and ultimately a more rounded option for a working pro unless you need that flash sync. For a treat though, the Hassy wins. It is the more exciting choice. The body looks stunning as does the interface. I also prefer the colours on the comparisons shown here.
In medium format I use a Fuji GFX 100 and an old Leica S. Besides the fact that most Fuji lenses were developed for the 50s -in which they worked very well, but they don’t have the same definition on the 100- adjusting the color to something that looks minimally natural is a pain. The image that you show of the skyscrapers is reality. It can be twitched, but it requires significant work. So despite being a more complete and easy to use camera, I resort to the Leica whenever I can, and use the Fuji for whatever the old Leica can’t do, such as high ISO or shots that require very large prints. I definitely would be interested in trying the Hasselblad. I understand the issues such as the rolling shutter and following the eye, but I don’t do fashion portraits, and the leaf shutter lenses can be an advantage. The Fuji might be a better camera, but if the Hasselblad delivers the color and the definition, it might be worth a try.

While I dont shoot with either of these, I do think it is important to specify which film simulation was used for the fujifilm when taking these photos. And if the same color profile was applied to both. If they are SOOC then the simulation aspect is very important. And the RAW photos also have these sims as a base that you can filter through. Both looks great imo tho. Great video
As a old CM500 user with the menu system of the X2D i would still go for the Hasselblad plus I am of Swedish descent. Cost is not a factor for me

Seems like the WB is off for the Fuji in a lot of the pics. Hassy has a great color, even I as a Fuji shooter admit that. But these examples are waaay off.
Both were using same settings (ie flash or auto or cloudy etc). Please download the raw files to test them yourself 👍🏼
I completely agree with the collectors item aspect of the X2D, the sad thing is that digital items just aren't collectable... at some point they will strop performing I feel this needs to be considered in todays world. the days of film collectable cameras that will still give incredible results in 50+ years are gone I believe. I really want the X2D, but I just cant justify it based on not being a professional and not having money to burn...
Agree. It was interesting to see the 20 year old XPAN II is selling used for more than the X2D is brand new :)

You neglected to mention the XCD 20mm lens from Hasselblad. It's expensive for sure but available. I've owned the X1D-1 and X1D-2 since they each came out. I have 5 lenses of the XCD series which are phenomenal and the image quality is incredible. Have not owned or used the Hassalblad X2D or Fuji 100 cameras however, the image file size for each of these cameras is in the 200MB/image range and at some point you really have to start thinking about storing files of that size.

The Hasselblad is so much more visually appealing that, as a collectors item, it wins without question but also the 16 bit color depth would make me work very hard to find a way to make it work - assuming I could afford the price. I preferred the images shot by the Hasselblad in these comparison pictures you shared because of color balance and tone. I assume these are straight out of camera images so that has appeal, but I am surprised you didn’t match them with at least a gray card. Fuji lens selection is its biggest appeal in the comparison… Will Hasselblad catch or will they remind main display case queens?
Well, there's a reason top 1% of the industry uses Hasselblad and PhaseOne cameras, not Fujifilm cameras. Hasselblad and PhaseOne are in their own league. The image quality, the micro contrast, the 3D pop, the dimensionality, the smooth colors... Fuji just doesn't even compare to Hasselblad. It's like comparing a Sigma lens to a Zeiss or Leica lens, the poor Sigma rendering just doesn't compare. Hasselblad in its own league. Incomparable. Also, people who shoot Hasselblad and who will be buying this camera, don't even remotely care about mundane things such as Eye AF or Auto-Focus in general. I've been using my H5D for years now, as well as my new a7RIV and I don't know the last time I used Auto-Focus. I can't wait to replace my a7RIV with the X2D!
I have to disagree with the statement - "Also, people who shoot Hasselblad and who will be buying this camera, don't even remotely care about mundane things such as Eye AF or Auto-Focus in general." I estimate 90% of people buying this camera are not full time professional studio/product photographers. They are cashed up enthusiasts, and many (even most) do care about AF.
@@nogerboher5266 - if I could afford the XD2 I’d still want top grade auto focus otherwise I’d put a digital back on a 500CM.
The Hasselblad has base ISO64 vs ISO100 on the Fuji. Should translate to better dynamic range on the Hassie no?

Would it be possible for Hasselblad to add a focal plane shutter in the body for next iteration in addition to the leaf shutter in the lens so you get best of both world like Leica S3?
Possible. But the body would obviously grow
It is interesting to see that some of the GFX's images also shift to magenta like my images taken with an X70 and an XE-4. I have been adapting several Canon lenses to an X1D II and I have full sensor coverage with a Samyang 24mm tilt-shift lens and an old Canon FD 135mm. For all the other Canon FD or EF lenses I crop to a square as they hard vignette.
I am also looking forward to comparison of the X2D with the X1D II. I am actually surprised I haven't found one yet.
I wonder why the 135mm has such a large image circle. Is it a f2.0 or f2.8?

So many thanks for this comparison. One question 20:33 to that phase detect AF, Hasselblad is advertising the X2D having PDAF on the homepage, so, I’m confused now about that…
Did you edit the Hasselblad images and leave the Fuji images untouched? The photos of the birds show the Hasselblad with a vignette around the edges, etc. Looks as though that image has been processed.

Hello there - I did download the files to check the difference. Thanks for that. I have to admit that only from looking at the files I can totally tell that you favor the Hasselblad. Also from the image selection... what ever the dead pieces of animals you added on the Fuji roll :D Only from looking at the images I can tell that you where more invested on the Hasselblad - but I can undestand... it is a very nice camera.

I had a look at the raw images of Hong Kong Harbour. The Fuji images seem to have some motion blur in them. Is that correct Matt? To my eye the hasselblad looks a lot more saturated and sharp, but maybe that's just a question of processing and a the X2D having a better tripod? Seems like a tough comparison based on those two images.
Hmmm.. I might take that back. Now that I compare the 2nd shot of the harbour the Fuji looks to the sharper image.
The Fuji purple color cast is annoying. I had the Fuji 50sii and X1Dii and the colors from the Hasselblad were much better out of the box. However, I have to admit that shooting experience goes to Fuji. Hasselblad had the most annoying shutter sound and the touch screen interphase felt more like an iPhone.

All pictures shared in all videos are processed, whether in camera or in post; you can’t use raw files.
As someone who has been saving for the Fuji, I don’t think I can get it after seeing how much better the Hasselblad colors look.
Thanks for providing the data to compare Fuji vs Hasselblad 102 mp cameras. From the information you provided I come to the conclusion that the Hasselblad is a much better choice. The image quality is much better, especially color reproduction which is evident in every side-by-side comparison. Also, you described things I dislike about having a dozen buttons on the camera and can inadvertently push the buttons and end up with ISO 50,000, for example. Also, you describe having to dive three menus deep to set up exposure bracketing. Having spent most of my time with Leica in the past 10 years, I appreciate the minimal configuration and build quality. Overall, the Hasselblad will give the experience and image quality I want. I ordered the X2D from B&H on Sept 8, the day after it was announced and it arrived a month later on Oct 8.

Of the samples you showed so much preferred the look of the Hasselblad images. But… it’s hard to know if that’d because:
1.) lens quality
2.) how the camera processes the raw files
3.) how you may have edited the images.

@@uwetrenkner9716 The way a sensor renders colour has nothing to do with the photographer. It's about the sensor and processing engine.
@@QuicknStraight Totally agree. The differences you see in this YT video are far beyond what you can see on comparison sites like dpreview. This leads me to the conclusion that the differences he talks about are not purely technically in the sensor but in the process behind that

I never could understand the 'super priced camera magic'. first heard about Hasselblad when someone from the Beatles band mentioned a girlfriend (or wife?) who had it and shot them. Then, a few years ago, it was that a type of Hasselblad branded lenses made a bit of a scandal. But i have to admit those pics from this camera talk more to me than the Fuji.
Would I spend on it? No. Got other things to do with my little amount, hard earned pennies. If I had the choice, id get a Lieca. Those are the lenses i love most. It would be interesting to compare.
Good test for me because I'm not sure about Hassy or Fuji, so I'm reading everything I can find before the big investment (maybe the Leica Q3 - coming soon - is also something to consider)
The problem with the Fuji GFX100S is not the camera, but their quality control with their lenses.
You can read it in several places, e.g. Lloyd Chambers - a very thorough tester, but he is not the only one.
Hasselblad's lenses do not have this reputation, but they are, on the other hand, very expensive = Quality control costs money, but then you avoid frustration and wasted energy and time.

Though the leaf shutters have a big cost difference, I would call out that it gives you a much faster flash sync speed. I believe the Fuji is at 1/125s while the Hassy is at 1/2000s. Yes, continuous lighting is probably better than flashes at freezing motion these days (and the X2D isn't the best camera for freezing motion), and you can use an ND filter if you want to use fill flash with wide aperture lenses in sunlight, but faster flash sync speeds give you a lot more flexibility in those situations.
Totally agree! the amount of power you lose when you have to switch to high speed syncing on focal plane shutters is a pain the the butt. waiting for the implementation of focus tracking and face detect before I drop the money

I just did the latest firmware update on my X2D which includes eye and face tracking.
At the end of the day, I really only need to do very little adjustments on Hasselblad raw files. Sometimes, I don’t need to touch it at all.
For my fast shooting, my Canon R5C does all that and it fulfills all my video needs. So, if I’m on a shoot with a model outdoors, I’ll bring a broncolor flash and my Hasselblad. That takes care of everything when you can flash sync at up to 1/4000th of a second.
The colour science Hasselblad uses is better than any other camera out there.
I’ve tried the latest Fuji medium format camera and the colour seems flat. I’m always spending a lot of time in post trying to get an image that the Hasselblad gets right out of the camera in raw.
And I’ll pay for the extra $$ for Hasselblad lenses exactly for the leaf shutter in the lenses that allows me to sync my mobile studio strobes outdoors at any shutter speed I want.
Now that Hasselblad has face and eye detect, Hasselblad just moved another step further forward then the Fuji. And those Hasselblad lenses are sublime. I still use my original Hasselblad lenses that I bought with my Hasselblad X1D all those years ago. So when I bought my X2D, I did upgrade a couple of my older lenses to the new V series lenses like the new 28mmP XCD and the 55mmv lenses. But I’m keeping the Hasselblad zoom lens and the 80, 21, 120 macro and the 135mm.

Another great review. I have seen all your X2D reviews so far and find them helpful. In judging the Fuji vs H images I consistently opt for H as I see better color, more gradated color and better definition and shading. The H images have more pop to them and if I were a buyer I would be buying those images over the F's. The skin tones on your model made that plain, to my eyes and way of thinking.
Now as I am persuaded you are one hot shit guy with a camera I am buying your X2D course. Hopefully I will have the X2D body soon. The 55 lens has arrived.
As a little lagniappe please tell me where you got the tripod socket dongle to attach the wrist strap. I got the RocknRoll wrist strap but have nothing to attach it with.

I love the ergonomics in hand. It is heavy, certainly so with the 1.9/80mm. Image quality is excellent - I have not done much editing. Just using Phocus mobile.
For some reason, I am missing Fuji film simulations but that is normal after 5+ years of Fuji system use. Guess I need to switch to Adobe LR and get used to some other workflow.
The EVF is really good, too! What I can say though is that I was turned off by the grain introduced in the EVF in dim light using the GFX (compared to my XPro3 at that time). Now the X2D seems to do the same thing, maybe a bit better controlled due to higher resolution.
I love how easy the mobile integration just worked. The app found the X2D nearby after enabling Wi-Fi on the camera body. Fuji was a lot Leads relatable in this regard and still is.
I have used the GFX100S and all other bodies except for the original 100. also used their 110 and 80 lenses as well as the 45/2.8 and many zooms. Excellent quality there, as well. Just on some lenses like the 63mm, the Fuji lenses seem to control fringing less well. I had tons of chromatic aberrations during summer with bright backgrounds when not stopped down to 5.6 or more on the 63mm.
Cannot compare the GF63 to the XCD Äquivalent… however the 45p is a lot more portable obviously than the GF45 but is is also less bright. The GF50mm would be closer in built and aperture and also a fine lens.
So all in all, I still need some more time to really get a qualified impression. What I can say is that I am at the moment not sure if I would switch again. Waited 2 months for the body alone. Some simple things like getting a new lens cap for my 2nd hand lens via the official Hasselblad web shop does not work - it is simply not available. Makes me wonder (and fear) that in case I would have some issues, I would have to wait for months to get a fix or replacement.
On the other hand, Fuji is a lot quicker to ship, has excellent zooms like the 45-100 and is cheaper across the board for lenses. On the body side, I would say they are almost on par because the X2D just has featured in hardware the GFX is lacking: 1TB SSD, viewfinder, Design, …
If you do not need the „prestige“ of the Hasselblad or the flash sync coming from their leaf shutter lenses, you may be equally well off using a GFX system.
Damn now I need to sell my Hasselblad again *kidding* Sure I won’t. Love it for irrational reasons. :-)
For me the shutter is the deciding argument for Fuji. I adapt a lot of old lenses, which does not work on the Hasselblad.
If money would not be a consideration then obviously both!

You've a good taste with watches. Congrats. On the Hassy seems to me that the WB is warmer and the skin tones are more pleasing than the Fuji. Ok ok, post production etc. but I'm talking right off the camera results as I wouldn't want to be correcting WB constantly... it's a shame as I think the Fuji has a log going for her... and would be in a way the obvious choice, yet the Hassy files seem more welcoming and embracing...
I'm still not sure about the first few minutes. Just because you couldn't get hold of the HB 21mm it doesn't mean that the Fuji is ahead. HB buyers would likely buy a 21 and then they're about equal. Yes the Fujis has 5 zooms to the HB one but the primes are pretty equal (you can even use the XH300mm on the X2D).
yes. But you can also adapt just about any lens to the fuji and still use the mechanical shutter

Hasselblad color is just better, Fuji looked like it’s flat compared to Hasselblad. That being said, i just bought GFX100s and I’ve been very pleased with the results. Paired with 110/f2 is just amazing. Now if money is no object I’ll own both but that Hasselblad colors are just really nice. Will need to download your raw files.
I would love to see a comparison of the Fuji gfx II and the Hassy. I love the color and design of the Hassy.... is there a film sym on the Fuji that matches the Hassy?
It is The Same Sony 102 MP Sensor. It seems that Fuji dial back it’s colors, where as the Hasselblad has truly a more vivid warmer color tone. It is just like Sony Sensors in Sony Cameras..Too me they are Cold. But the same Sony Sensors in Nikon Z9, D850. Z7ll are like More Warmth and crisper looks.
I am going to test drive Hasselblad in Hawaii Next Year..and also take a Nikon Full Frame..either Z7ll or Z9…for those faster frames…But will use Hasselblad for them “Be Still” Model Shots, and Landscapes. We shall see. Maybe Hasselblad will do a firmware update about Focus!
You said it if it's just for results, then you'd suggest the GFX. I'd argue against that. If I'm going for just results, I'm going for the Hasselblad X2D. The colors SOOC are so much more natural... especially for skin tones. From everything I've seen, the GFX tends to be a lot cooler and perhaps a little more magenta, and that negatively affects skin tones. Although, if I'm doing just landscape, the cooler tones might be a little more desirable. I always liked Fuji Pro 400H for landscape photos, and the GFX kinda of mimics that traditional fuji film look. For the image results, leaf shutter, and build quality, I'm going with the X2D hands-down. At that price point/both of them being cheap medium formats, I personally wouldn't say the $3000 difference is a huge difference.

Matt, aside from the leaf shutter, how do you assess the IQ of the two lens systems? I am a very happy GFX 100 user, no complaints, but if Hasselblad had materially better glass, that could push me to change. Other note I would have is that Capture One stubbornly refuses to support Hassleblad. I was about ready to place an order and check out the X2D, but the lack of capture one support, for my workflow, is a killer. Thanks.
Yes Capture/Phase One and Hasselblad have a mixed history. Seems editing support is unlikely.
Both lenses great- In my opinion the HB lenses are better. Worth the price premium?? I can’t say.
@@mattgranger Then here is my though. The best of the Fuji lens's are fantastic, e.g., 110, 32-64, 250, 45-100 is close, and the 23... really really good.. Capture one is a big enough deal I wouldn't switch save for a massive glass difference and I just don't think that's realistic. So for me, at that premium, Im staying with GFX 100... Probably would reach same conclusion at a smaller premium.

i've ordered the x2d and thinking of letting go of my gfx100. I wanted a smaller, lighter setup so was looking at the 55mm(dont like 38mm fov and 90mm is not close to ready.) however I can not justify the price of the new V lenses. so i will stick to 45p at the moment, hoping that the 90mm down the road will surprise us.

If i win the powerball jackpot, I'll be waiting for next upgrade where probably give 16 bit color in 50 MP and some form of continuous autofocus and just a bit video on emergency basis ?
Simply based on the color, Yes you can fix it in post but why if you have it so good from get go ? to my eye, the skin tones on hasselblad are much more accurate and pleasing at the same time ?
Aesthetics and contribution to brand value is well worth price.
I'm planning and renting this for studio beauty work and i think leaf shutter is really good idea and it'll pay lot of dividend in long term, if they would improve their autofocus (based on this video)
Nice video... what I don't get with the Hasselblad is that they have no eye or face detection or as an alternative a joystick to move the AF tracker. Smearing away on the touch display makes the EVF obsolete. Also other photographers testing the AF of the X2D complained about the erratic AF. It either needs a serious firmware upgrade or it's just not for moving people photography (which is fine) but then it's a camera purely for landscape or architecture... even though the AF of the GFX might be slow, it's at least usable

@@mattgranger it was a DPREVIEW video presenting the X2D just a few days ago. In a backlit scene. IMHO any modern camera these days should be able to handle that 🤷🏻♂️
The photographer even tested it against an old H system camera with one AF point in the middle which outperformed the X2D. The model wasn't even moving. So I can't imagine how difficult it would be to have a model moving wildly 😂
Thanks for the great comparison, Matt. I don't know how much editing went into the images presented in the video, but Hasselblad was superior in terms of color. I'm wondering, since the Fuji does shoot RAW, couldn't you simply back up the magenta cast and throw in a little yellow and have the two pretty much match? The first skyline shoot in the video, does seem to favor the Fuji. The night shots are all Hasselblad.
One last point, as someone who has retired from my day job as as newspaper photojournalist, I'm moving to fine art photography and find the cost/value argument for the Fuji to be a major issue, since my new equipment will be on my dime. While stills are my primary art form, Fuji's implementation of 4K 12-bit 4:2:2 video really makes the $6,000 body a complete hands down winner. Not too many years ago, you would have to spend $20,000 for a RED to get that sort of performance.

I suggest you double check the video rates on Fuji. I believe it only does 10 but 422 externally to a recorder, not 12 bit. And there’s no 422 internal at all
@@mattgranger Opened up the RAWS. I had no problem editing colors but other factors were at play that tipped the balance toward Hasselblad. Clarity, vibrancy and chromatic aberration were factors that seemed to prove the superiority of the Hasselblad lenses. There were other factors, too, some I can't put my finger on. @@mattgranger This is from B&H spec sheet, if it is accurate: "If working with an Atomos Ninja V, then UHD 4K30p raw 12-bit output is also possible using the Apple ProRes RAW format."
The color difference is interesting. The Hasselblad is a lot warmer and that works well for landscapes. However, the skin tones end up looking much more yellow than is natural.
Luckily for me as a pro wedding and portrait shooter who grew up on 120 and Mamiya RZ I have no choice but to chose the Hass. For me it is the leaf shutters - I can't live without them - I have pre-orderd 2 and with all 3 new lenses - arriving end of October - to be fair I have been shooting on the X1Dii and the little 907x (that one I will keep as it such a sweet little thing until they update it) - tried the FujiGFX100 - technical limitations in the heat of a complex shoot do not interest me - in fact just today I had a little play with the demo at Clifton Cameras Dursley - it is ace - can't wait
It all comes down to pricing. Blad wins in IQ but Fuji's lower price is appealing. On the otherside, I wish pentax has given some importance to 645D, launched upgraded version. Then it ll b interesting to see the comparison with BLAD.
I think something has gone wrong with your Kelvin temperature. Doesn't look like both cameras have an equivalent setting

Hi Matt, great review. In the portraits the colour difference between these two cameras isn't that too noticeable, yet the landscapes of Hong Kong (at 10.11) from the Peak the colours are quite different. Could you explain why the colours in these images of HK are quite different in terms of colour? Did you do any retouch on the RAW files, etc?
Hi mate yep there is definitely some variation out of camera, especially as the white balance chosen by camera is often quite different. I suggest you check the raw files and explore them for yourself.
i noticed this too and had a look-- the GFX files were shot in the Eterna film simulation profile (which is more muted by design). If you set it to provia or Astia the imagine's colours and contrast dramatically pops and become much more comparable.

@@kitminlee9169 No worries! Yeah me too. I saw your comment and it resonated with my own thinking when i watched the video. I had to dig into the raws and find out for myself why the colours looks so vastly different too.
He was probably testing the video features of the GFX and forgot to switch to the standard profile (provia).
@@JustZG I did a shoot where the product was shot with a Hassy and I used my GFX100s, we both used colour charts, etc. The Hassy reds were very slightly more solid/richer than the GFX100s. But wasn't majorly different, but enough difference for a commercial product photographer to take note of. That's why I was surprised in the large difference of Matt's two night shots taken with the X2D and GFX100s.
