  • At $7500 vs $8200, these two 102mp cameras are obvious rivals, and whilst they share a mini medium format sensor, they are also quite different. Let's compare their portrait performance and image quality.

    • @mattgranger
      @mattgranger  6 місяців тому +2

      Reading the comments, it is not isolated to this camera, or even the GFX range sadly.
      It’s impossible to say one system is sharper - depends on the specific lenses used. I would say the reduced vibration, and amazing ibis, make it easy to get crisp images with the x2d.

Fuji needs to fix the freezes, even more so that turning off the machine does not work either. • @costelloandsilke7321

    Thanks for the comparison Matt. As a long time Fujifilm and, more recently, Hasselblad user - as a piece of design ergonomics in the hand, the X2D is head and shoulders above the GFX. Regarding the prices of the lenses, I think Hasselblad is just charging a premium full stop. The 45P is an affordable lens with a leaf shutter, so the leaf shutter does not explain why the Hasselblad lenses are so expensive. Arguably, Hasselblad is going after the Leica market and that's the basis for their pricing strategy.

    • @mattgranger
      @mattgranger  7 місяців тому +1

      Certainly premium pricing. Thankfully not as high as Leica!

    • @jaimeduncan6167
      @jaimeduncan6167 7 місяців тому

      That is a pretty strong point. The 28mm f/4 has the 1/4000 leaf shutter. Even so I would not say it's not a part. One has to develop the shutters and mounting a delicate electromecanical device inside each lens has to have a cost.

    Good comparison. I have owned Hasselblad cameras for over 10 years. Originally the H series and then shifted to the X almost as soon as they came out. I have the X1D, X1Dii and the X2D. Obviously, Hasselblad has made significant progress as they have progressed through the models but one annoying facet of all 3 of the X series cameras is when shooting in portrait mode on a tripod. The cameras often just flake out: stop working, screen goes black but camera still fires, throws a lens error or variety of other issues. When this happens it obviously forces you to stop what you're doing and spend time getting the camera running again. I have sent issue after issue to Hasselblad but they just don't seem to care - maybe it's the DJI influence. Wondering if you have experienced this issue. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Hasselblad cameras in spite of the issues - nothing compares!

    • @Bob4golf1
      @Bob4golf1 7 місяців тому

      They don't seem to be interested. Considering this is consistent across all 3 models there is something wrong. I think, after experiencing these problems, it is related to the case. It's machined out of aluminum which is not the strongest metal and I think they experience some slight warping which puts a circuit card or connector into stress. I owned a tech company for many years and this sort of issue was pretty common if you didn't design/test for it.

    • @mattgranger
      @mattgranger  7 місяців тому

      Hi Mate, I am still curious to know what response you have had. Seeing I have never heard of this issue from any user before, yet you had it on all 3 models, either it is extremely statistically rare case that you got three lemons, or perhaps it is some specific combination of elements that are somehow unique to your shooting process.
      (I dont say that to diminish your experience or discount it at all. But I get a LOT of feedback from users about errors. So being this is the first I am hearing of it, and its 3 cameras from one user, it is unusual).

    • @Bob4golf1
      @Bob4golf1 7 місяців тому

      How often do you shoot your X2D? I use mine a lot and it doesn't happen all the time, just when you really need a working camera. Then you have to stop, disconnect the lens or cycle power and go at it again. It actually happened to me yesterday while shooting a portrait (in portrait orientation on a tripod) and the screen blacked out and then once I got the screen back on it started throwing lens errors. Look I'm not bad mouthing the camera. I LOVE my X2D and its predecessors but these things occur with much higher frequency than any of my other cameras. Hasselblad makes a big deal out of "Handmade". I have had a lot of experience fabricating electronics and give me a robot every day (and twice on Sunday). Robots a extremely accurate, never have a bad day and do exactly what they are told to do. I understand that Hasselblad probably isn't big enough to afford robotic assemble lines which means they have to do a lot more QA and testing.

Combined with X-Processor 5, GFX100 II is able to achieve a high continuous frame rate of up to 8fps, surgically accurate AF, and advanced video features that have never before existed in any previous GFX System or X Series camera." 1/250 sec is a perfect normal sync speed for a mechanical shutter. 1/320 for mechanical shutter on small chip is also a normal speed. If you want faster speeds use hs sync like elinchrom has. But for 95% of studio work 1/250 is fast enough.

      Yep, but both these cameras will no doubt be used out of studio too

    Why sometimes your comparison raw just are really bad? like no proper side by side, only one pic is half decent to compare others one just random and not to compare to other camera, not the first time seeing this

      Matt, as a landscape and product photographer, I went from the Fujifilm X System (several bodies and XF lenses) to the Nikon Z System and haven’t looked back, though I have been impressed with the Fuji gear, I just wanted the larger FF sensor. Recently I’ve been interested in MF, and thus this video. What really surprised me was your Fuji’s frequency of camera lockups! But if you could state which system files yielded sharper images, that would be most appreciated! Thanks!

      @@mattgranger to me, those files you supply are really how we're able to make an informed decision. Your files are the reason I'm probably going to end up buying the X2D 100c. It's why I tried and eventually bought the XT5. The Internet can room images so it's good to examine them in controlled settings.

    Would be good to start thinking about of the box here, Matt. The subject matter for these test shoots is just way too cringey and cliche. Two women -- one naked with rose petals covering her privates and another pole dancing? Not asking you to be a groundbreaking here... but something other than the lowest possible hanging fruit from a male photographer would be nice.

    Hard to find a more biased „review“ comparison on UA-cam. The files are useless. No mention of all the advantages you’ll get with GFX, like leagues better AF. And then continuously mentioning the „sync speed“. Yeah no shi*, leaf shutter lenses have better sync speed. Overall an incredibly biased video, that only seems to exist to throw dirt at the GFX.
