I just bought the Sumo from a guy in a watch group and completely love it. I've also got an orange Samurai which is great too, but the Sumo just does everything better.
What I love about the Sumo is that for all intents and purposes it's a classic diver design, but it's still very unique and has its own character. I love the case design.
I just got the SRPF79J1, paid $384 delivered. It is amazing. Its more beautiful in person than in pictures. I was worried it would be a little big, but it fits well, looks good, I have mine on the factory Seiko rubber (silicone?) and is very comfortable. I have much more expensive watches and the finishing and quality fits right in with them. This one will definitely be a keeper.
Your review was exactly what I was looking for, buddy. Congratulations and thank you very much for it. Have 2 doubts. Are both bracelets with solid end links? Are both with sapphire crystal? Samurai’s case and bracelet are stunning, gonna probably grab both.
Hi there, thanks and glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, both have solid end links and both have sapphire crystal. Buying both is an excellent option. Then you don't need to choose. I'm enjoying both of the still.
Great video! Thank you very much. Now I choose between these two watches)) Feels like on you hand, like in life - which one to choose? The difference in mechanism is not important. For this King Samurai also want to buy a bracelet. So how do you wear this watch for more than a month - which of the two? )))
Fantastic video! Is that King Samurai the latest Save the Ocean version? If so, where'd you get a bracelet for it. Because the latest version comes with a rubber strap.
Thanks! Yes, it's the Dark Manta Ray. And you're right, it comes on a silicone strap, but this is the one I bought for it, and the one that appears in the video: www.strapcode.com/products/metal-ss-bcl20-b066
Where do u get the bracelet for the samurai ? Especially the one u have is a thick clasp , I have the same watch and it only comes with a rubber band. Is that aftermarket?
That's a really difficult decision because I like different things about each of them. But, based on which one I wear more I think I would have to say the Sumo. But it's extremely close. You can't go wrong with either of them. Maybe consider the larger case size of the Sumo if your wrist is on the small side. But besides that, you'll be happy with either.
Thank you for great review. Exactly what many are looking for. And amazing how Sumo looks slimer vs smaller Samurai.😊 I was concerned with 45mm of Sumo. You addressed it! I think it will not look/feel bigger vs my PAM. That is the only reference I have where Im now)
@@froeseiyes, helpful and inspiring, finally I ordered both 😊, Samurai srpb53 and Sumo sfk001 GMT blue version. Look forward to get them! PS it was not easy to decide between classic mechanical Sumo and quartz one, but it was definately exiting part of decision process.
@@froesei now Samurai arrived. And sad news. After few days with Sumo Im in love with how it fits on wrist, with quality. Unfortunately Samurai does not give even 2/3 of this feeling. Well, Sam was purchased at perfect price not awailable anymore. Will find new owner. I start think of Sumo gen1 or 2 🙂
Nice review, Love the Hexhead bracelet! Does the black sumo have AR coating on its sapphire crystal? I own the green sumo and mine does not appear to have any.
I just ordered this Seiko Samurai dark manta ray with the same strapcode hexad bracelet. I heard some people had issues with the end pin/links not fitting on the watch and kept coming loose. Did you have any problems installing yours to the watch?
No issues with mine, the fit is really solid. I did order a Strapcode bracelet for my Seiko Speedtimer and I had to have them send me new endlinks because they didn't fit well. But the endlinks solved the issue. I guess with any third party after market bracelet that's a risk, by generally I've been pretty happy with Strapcode. Very solid brackets. Good luck!
I can confirm the bracelet was fairly easy to install and no issues fitting it in. The look is amazing and it complements the watch a million times better than the stock Seiko metal bracelet. I am also thinking about getting the Strapcode Angus Jubilee for my SRPE39 King Turtle.
I just bought the Black Sumo in the UK. I Bought it on sale for £40 less than the authorised dealership 's asking price for the standard King Samurai in white or black. It's only flaw is the position of the drilled lug holes. They're too far from the case, - which will leave a gap if you put it on a lot of straps.
I think the placement of the lug holes is sort of inevitable. The reality is it simply has longer lugs, so that will always be an issue. I bought a Crafter Blue fitted strap to avoid that issue. It wears really well.
Great video thanks. Always seems that the crown is digging into the back of the hands as people flex their wrist. It's why I wear my watch on my right wrist.
I'm actually amazed at how much the case design and the undercut on the sides of the case minimizes that. But certainly wearing a watch on the other wrist would eliminate it all together!
I have both. Ice diver Sumo in Green... and Samurai in black I prefer the hands in the Ice Diver Sumo compared to the Samurai. That said the King Samurai at 650 bucks with a ceramic bezel and Sapphire glass... great value
Agreed, they both have their strengths. I really do love the case design of the Sumo, and a ceramic bezel would have really put it over the top. Makes a big difference on the King Samurai.
Doesn't wear big ! 🤣😂 I'm gonna demolish the clock tower known as Big Ben at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London and reconstruct it to wear on my wrist and say it "Doesn't wear big." Otherwise, great review, seriously. Very informative and useful comparison of two beautiful Seikos (made for 6' 6" 250lb giants)😉
The King Samurai with the manta rays on the dial always looks stunning on video - for example in this footage, but I found when I went to the Seiko AD to try it on and maybe purchase, I preferred the Samurai Pepsi with the wave dial - which looks nothing special on video but stunning on wrist in real life. Just my opinion.
And the glass and the bubble where the date on the king samari..buy the king one just for the upgraded crystal glass..it won't scratch..not like the phyclops on the date but don't like scratches on glass...my skx009 has scratches on glass and bugs me in sunlight.
Anything is possible, but in my opinion both these watches are unapologetically large, and I think Seiko recognizes and values that distinction between them and other smaller watches. It makes them unique, it's part of their identity. Also, they do wear much smaller than the numbers would suggest, which is a result of great design. However, you never know, anything is possible!
I got the Samurai first, and thought it would remain my favourite even after getting the Sumo. But I've found that the case design of the Sumo and how it curves along the wrist and sits on the wrist is so good that it's taken over from the Samurai in terms of which one I wear most. But they are both great and you can't go wrong with either!
I didn't talk price because they can often change, and there are different online retailers that will sell them for less and you can likely find a deal.

The details and design of the case is really tough to beat. And the sunken bezel is so unique 👍🏻
The only thing better on the Samuri is the bracelet.
That bracelet is aftermarket, buddy.
that hexad is spot on for the samurai
It really is.
Almost like it's made for it. That's not a stock bracelet, is it?
No it is not. It's the hexad bracelet by strapcode. And you're right, it is the perfect match for the case design.
Awesome 👍😎 can't wait to seeing your stoc

Seiko definitely has a way with their dials. Good to know about the Pepsi!
So the basic diff between the normal Samurai (which I have) and the King Samurai is the dial and the bracelet?
The bracelet is an after market one that I purchased from Strapcode. The actual stock differences is a sapphire crystal, and a ceramic bezel.

Hard to say for sure, but it's got a pretty strong wrist presence so I doubt it will feel too small.
