      Was planning to get one, did you face any problems/ earlier scratches/ something like that or can you please help me with a short note review for this watch.

    After almost 4 years of owning this totally amazing piece, it is still one of my most favourite in my collection. I still gaze on it when it’s on my wrist like a teenager in love… Seiko nailed it with this one🌊💙!
    By the way, I have on a heavy duty Zulu strap, the original was too cumbersome for me.

    Waiting for mine.
    I also got the “J” model.
    Living in Germany, bought it in Miami, Florida. It was the last one available.
    Sent it to a friend in Canada because they don’t ship to Germany.
    Reason: Seiko doesn’t want the “Made in Japan” models to be sold in Europe.
    Watch got kidnapped in Canada by some crazy neighbors of my friend and the cops got it back. No joke. 🤣
    Now waiting for it to be sent to me.
    Can’t wait to get it into my hands.
    It’s my first mechanical watch and what a story to tell when people ask where I got this.

    Dear friend,thank you for your nice review. When i heard that you mentioned bracelet fit, i hope you can help me.
    I want to buy metal bracelet for this watch, but when i saw that original one for srpe33 in most reviews has bad fit a canceled order.
    There is 3 options for me.
    Original M0FPA37J0 for samurai series before king
    Original M0FPA47J0 which is advertise and fited for samurai after save the ocean(great white shark and later) and also for king but as you mentioned, king case is deferent and bracelet is moving...
    3.option is to buy strap code but i prefer original.
    Do you think that older original version has fit close to strapcode one because we all know that strapcode has a nice fit to all samurais or should i go only with strapcode?
    On M0FPA37J0 one it is written 37 on the end link and on the M0FPA47J0 it is written 47 on the end link.
    Thanks again,
    Nikola

    i got a white face king samurai that i really like , it does not say "made in japan" anywhere front or back, and that is fine, what really bothers me is that it does not even say where it was made which i think it is sneaky from Seiko to not even disclose where the watch was made.. japan? malasya ? china ? is anyone's guess.

    • @froesei
      @froesei  3 роки тому

      Yes that's something that bothers me as well which is why I try to get either a "J" model or the JDM SBDC version. Often they are cased in Malaysia if it doesn't say Japan. However, I believe their quality control in those other non-Japanese factories has improved a lot over the years and is less of a concern now. Plus, that white version looks super nice so if you're enjoying it that's the main thing! I pondered getting that version for quite a while.

      @@froesei Thanks for the reply mate, i went into a store today that is a 1 hours drive to see them both in person and on my wrist. I didn't think that doing so would make the decision harder... aha so thinking about it, but i do think both are great respectively. The dark manta ray is more subtle and versatile, more comfortable with the silicone band also.
      The normal manta ray is a beautiful bright blue but would limit how versatile it is and what you could wear it with an overall fit. I will say both did look different in person then they do on HD videos etc due to certain lighting... Will keep you posted on my decision.

  • @patricj951
    @patricj951 3 роки тому

    Thanks for review!
    I am interested in a Seiko automatic diver and srpe33k1 has got my attention. I think it's the same watch as yours but with a stainless steel bracelet. I am just a bit concerned about the weight: a whopping 205g. Yes, it will be slightly lighter after removal of a few links to fit my 6,7 inch wrist. But it will likely still be 180-190g which is a substantial weight to carry on the wrist. Using a rubber strap will make it significantly lighter, of course.
    Have you measured the weight of this Manta Ray with the different bracelets?

    • @froesei
      @froesei  3 роки тому

      Hi Patric, just be careful...the srpe33 is actually a much lighter blue dial. It's a different model than the 79. As for the weight, you are correct. It's not a light watch! But I actually like the heft and tue weight. It's feels substantial, but not heavy. I haven't weighed it with just the rubber strap, but it is a bit lighter, obviously.

      Ok!
      When it comes to the weight it's of course also a matter of becoming used to it. Especially when I have not used my citizen BN0191-80L diver for a while(around 158g when it's adjusted for my wrist) I instantly react " oh, it's heavy" if I go from have used Citizen BM7430-89L titanium(~88g).
      But after a while I don't think about it. And another ~30g will likely not be a problem either.

      No, the place you buy it from shouldn't make any difference. Nah, have bought plenty of Seikos from Macy's, they are legit. In fact, I have been pleasantly surprised a few times when I've received the "J" models from them as some have the "Made in Japan" on the dial.

    I bought this watch for 50% off wow.. what a bargain... looks like their expensive 1968 limited edition

      That is indeed a great deal. Huge value in this watch in my opinion. It may not be their most expensive movement, but the finishing, the dial, the ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal really elevate it way above its price point.

    Great looking watch. However, you're paying $650 for a 4R36 movement that even a $250 Seiko has. Not the most accurate movement either. Ceramic bezel and sapphire are good additions, but Seiko pricing no longer makes sense.

      Not sure where you're getting your info from, but I paid 450 USD.
      I absolutely can appreciate and share your desire for lower priced watches but I'm honestly curious to know which watches you're thinking of that have comparable finishing, a ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, a beautiful dial, and a reliable movement for that price. You can argue that they've moved too far up market with other Prospex models but I really don't think this is one of them.

      @@froesei This watch currently costs over $600 in most parts of the world, if you got it for $450 then you're quite lucky. I agree on the external finish, but Seiko hasn't really kept up on the internals. The movement itself can be bought for $50 new. I like Seiko, but not sure if the price of new Prospex models is justified.

      @@viv3541 I was exactly like you. Got my Willard Steeldive for 80$ and thought it's ticking all value boxes : ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, seiko movement, nice finish. Why on earth Seiko wants 500-600$ for same specs?? Then I got light blue manta ray samurai. Boi I was wrong. This is on another level compared (IMHO). First and most important : DIAL. It's INSANE. I mean it. Video, photos don't do ANY justice. There is no other microbrand, homages that even come close to it. For that alone it is worth it in my opinion. On cheap microbrand and homages luma is ok but when you compare it to Seiko it's no match really. I mean color accuracy , bright etc. And last there are some very small details that you start appreciate after some time.

      Well, it does wear smaller than its dimensions might suggest because of the case shape and relatively short lug to lug measurement, but you're right it's not a small watch. It definitely has a wrist presence.
