I used mine and have killed a cactus even. It was not doing well so I put it in the bathroom. It was wonderful for this Michigander to have petunias in February. I chose to not use it every year. Thank you for the reminder of how it works
Great question. Currently I don’t but I am in the middle of filming a root trimming experiment video to look into wether I should. I’ll be posting it soon. But I have been growing hydroponically for 5+ years with no root trimming. Would things have grown better with root trimming? Not sure yet. A lot of people swear by it though which was why I wanted to do an experiment!
Hi Kiri Do you ever see white airy fungus growing on the top of the sponge, in the last grow hole. The grow hole that is away from the side that has the light pole coming up. I am seeing that fuzzy white fungus, or mold, growing in all the Sprout Machines that I have...in that exact hole. What did you do for that? I am thinking to not have the grow dome on top. I wonder if that will help stop it. There isn't as much water movement in the Sprout, as there is for the Bounty...and that grow hole is the farthest away from the bubbling pump. I wonder if that is why it is happening. It is too far away from the agitation of the water. Thank You ❤
Hi Daphne, The micro hat tomatoes (from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds) were a HUGE success. The peppers worked too, but they needed a good pruning and I got distracted out in the garden over the summer. oops! I would definitely recommend you try but the variety make a big difference. The Micro hat tomatoes only grow about 6” but I had loads of tomatoes off them. A bigger cherry tomato would need a lot of pruning. Glad the video was helpful!
Hi Michelle, That's great you found the video helpful! The amount of seeds I put in depends on the variety I am growing... For peppers/tomatoes I do two, lettuce I do about 3 and herbs I do maybe 5-6. It's all a learning experience and there is no right and wrong really...well except 100...that would be wrong and a waste of seeds LOL. Just try and see what works, doing more that one seed is in case they don't germinate. You can thin them later. Happy growing!
@@The_IndoorGardener Oh gosh TY! I don't even have my machine yet and am getting all in. When I start a new project I go all in. I don't hold back at all. Lol 🤣
I do use tap water but a lot of people use distilled. It kind of depends on your water. Well and spring water are not great to use as they can leave lots of deposits that can be bad for the pump.
Love your channel! Question - Just set up the sprout but the light is really bright in my studio apartment. Do you know if there is a way to dim the light? Or is it ok to place a cover over the aerogarden? I read that some people do but wanted your thoughts. Thanks!
Hi Kate. Thanks for the channel love! That’s exciting you have your first indoor garden! The light does take some getting used too and no you can’t dim it. Dimming it wouldn’t be great for the plants. If you are feeling crafty you could make a cover for the front/sides out of cardboard and line the inside with aluminum foil to reflect the light back in. Just don’t forget to check on your plant babies! You c an also change when the lights come on and off if that might help a bit.
Thanks! Very helpful. Just wanted to make sure if I made or bought a cover it would be ok for the plant herbs. I’m not very crafty haha but can give it a try. Do you have any covers for the sprout that you recommend?
Hi...I have one AeroGarden Bounty Basic and just got 2 Sprouts. I gave nutirents to the Bounty last Wednesday. I am starting the 2 Sprouts on the tomorrow morning at 8am (Tuesday) so they are both on the same scheduled day. I would like to have the 3 of my AeroGardens on the same scheduled day for feeding them Nutrients. Do you know how I can do that? I just think that would be easier. How can I get these 2 Sprouts on the same schedule as my Bounty. Right now Bounty hit 2 weeks last Wednesday. The 2 Sprouts will be starting this week on Tuesdays. So the Bounty will be one week and the 2 Sprouts on the next week. Do you have any idea how I can do this? Thank You So Much....Hugs Viv ❤
Hey Nak, I can definitely work on something specifically around the sprout! I do have a blog post about some of the things I have grown in my AeroGarden Farm...may give you some ideas. Any dwarf variety should be pretty safe, you need to consider their final height and if you can manage it also by pruning. ourlittlesuburbanfarmhouse.com/14-vegetables-you-can-grow-hydroponically-and-10-you-cant/
Hi Marie, I hold the back of the unit at the bottom and then with the other hand grab the top “arm” where the light is. The back part extends up to 14” and shrinks to 11”. Hope that helps…unfortunately I can’t post a picture here 😒
@@mariejohnson4192 You want to keep the light about 4-6” above the top of the plants. So the height out of the box is where you want to start. Then you can raise it as they grow. You can message me on Instagram at @ourlittlesuburbanfarmhouse if you want more info or I can send you a quick video there 😬
Very good instructions and advice. You get a thumbs up and subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!

I want a unit for butter lettuce and another for basil. Should I buy 2 sprouts or would you recommend another unit?

That is most likely mycelium and it is beneficial to the plants. I leave it, but if it bothers you, you can just gently use a cotton swab to remove it
@@The_IndoorGardener So leave the dome on? Have a Great Week!!! Thank You ❤
Are the lights adjustable for these?
Yes the lights are movable but the max height is 10" from the grow deck.
Hi. We’re you successful with growing the dwarf tomatoes and peppers in the sprout? I’d like to try if it worked for you. Thanks! Great video!

How did the Red heirloom cherry tomato you grew taste?
They were ok but my favourite are the orange hat (micro) tomatoes from Baker Creek

Do you need light for germination?
Some seeds require light to germinate but most do not
My pump went out do you know we’re I could buy a new one from
You should be able to contact AeroGarden support to get a new one
