I've had many problems with their pods either not germinating or growing mold! It appears they are very time-sensitive, so I wouldn't stock up on Pods figuring you can use them next year bc they probably won't be viable. So, instead, I buy quality seeds and plant my own Pods. If one doesn't germinate, I can easily replace it with none of the hassles Aerogarden puts you through.

Yay Karline! Thanks so much for the kind words. I wish we had the AeroGarden sales you guys have in the US! The darn things never seem to go on sale in Canada. I love being able to grow food year round, especially with the rising food prices it’s nice to be able to supplement with homegrown food.
Great question. They help to reduce the amount of light that the nutrient solution is exposed to. If too much light gets in then you can end up with algae. So it is a good idea to use them. Hope that helps
@@The_IndoorGardener You're certainly welcome. I'm currently in between. I started some tomatoes and cucumbers in my Bounty, recently transferred to my raised beds and will soon be planting herbs. I learned of the recent amazing sale at AeroGarden and just took delivery of a Farm 24XL ($325). I was planning to grow strawberries (dry root) and roma tomatoes but after research, apparently yield is low on strawberries and roma tomatoes apparently don't like AeroGardens very much so I'm working on a plan B.
Would love to ask - from anyone reading! - about tips for growing herbs that would normally grow on a wider area? Like, parsley, coriander. I’m planning on some kind of small/easy hydroponic system, but I’m concerned that even if I get good growth, the first time I want to use a little bunch of these herbs it’s going to be all gone! Those pods/grow spots seem really narrow.
Do you recommend "transplanting" the yield to a pot? My basils are doing great, so much so that they keep growing, so I wonder if I can keep them on the side while starting another yield.
Hi Gabriela, You definitely can transplant the basil to soil. I have a video on how I do it. Or you can leave it in and give a a good trim. Up to you but basil can definitely get big! How to TRANSPLANT Aerogarden Herbs and Vegetables | Growing food in small spaces ua-cam.com/video/xLlLCHlLbLw/v-deo.html
Hi Tina, Good chance they could be fungus gnats. I love the yellow sticky traps to deal with the issue once it happens (I just keep them up all the time). Typically they come in from outside, but possibly they could come in via eggs on the plant pods. 😞 So the yellow sticky traps are my best solution and also quarantining any new houseplants you bring in.
Thank you so much for the insight. I love growing fresh herbs and plants so I don’t need the store every week. I wanted a garden that would pay me back but lost on how these work and what’s best ❤
@@The_IndoorGardener I’m also allergic to water mold and the store sometimes has herbs next to rotting veggies or fruit. I’ll break out in hives from head to toe and have issues breathing and nausea after eating them. So fresh herbs are healthier for me than risking it at the store. It’s like roulette every time I buy anything produce at the store. Even after washing it when I get home.
The Grow Anything pods are your best bet, if you have a pod that doesn’t germinate then you could put your own seeds in that but you can’t reuse a pod after it has been grown in.
Does the bounty basic let you set your own light schedule? I'm trying to use mine to clone/root plants and need to be able to have it on 24hrs and 12on/12off when needed
There are quite a few bounty models…I am pretty sure any of the ones with the screens (Harvest and Bounty Elites + Farms) let you set your own schedule. The sprout and the more basic harvest and bounty I think they are mostly the 16 on/8 off mode. Probably best to check on their site for the exact model you are looking at getting to be sure.
Thanks for the video! I have the Harvest with 6 holes, and used the herb pre-seeded pods. Since it wasn't in the booklet I assumed it'd be fine to grow all the herbs together. If they weren't already sprouting I'd just switch them. Great video!
Very helpful information. Thank you! The comparison sheet is excellent and something I was looking for. I still don’t know what model I will buy from what manufacturer.
Any old small oscillating fan will do, no need for anything fancy. Keep it on low as you just want to simulate a gentle breeze to stimulate strong stem growth and aid with air circulation.
I do have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I 'm hoping you can help me. The aerogarden lights are preprogrammed to come on and off depending on your choice of pods. I grown seeds before and they don't require light to germinate and generally require darkness to sprout. Should I shut off the light until I see them sprout or doesn't it matter in a hydroponic system?
I planted basil celantro and sage. Nothing sprouted in weeks except one celantro. Do I have to get new pods or can I reuse the same ones that were duds.
THANK YOU! 'Height'! Who'd a thunk? Subscribed. In Arizona, so am researching indoors and low-light - so what are my options? Initially just want to grow 'something' hydroponically to watch it do its thing. 2nd or 3rd generation, I'll actually grow something 'useful'... I don't know... radishes? Thank you again.
I have only tried the AeroGarden pods in my AeroGardens. I am currently using the LetPot with the pods it came with and my micro tomatoes are growing fine. But I haven't tried any other ones so I can't offer much more info than that sorry.
no they are not "organic" but youll be fine. all the food in your fridge was grown with lab made nutes. even "organic" food uses questionable items these days due to over farming.
Sometimes it’s easier to sprout seeds on a paper towel and then move them to the pod. - Spray a paper towel until moist. - place seeds on top of the paper towel. - place moist (not wet) paper towel in a plastic bag - place plastic bag in a warm area (some put it on top of the lights) I find this method is far better for sprouting. Once the plants have sprouted, you can drop them into the pods. If the seedlings get too big, you can slice one side of the pod and insert the plant into it from there.
Hi Jennifer, I get some from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds they have the orange hat tomato, tom thumb peas, dwarf Siberian kale, tiny hedou bok choy and a few others.
Did you ever compare the Nutrients values of growing Plants using the Aero Garden system versus growing plants outside in Natural enriched soil? Some say you would get more nutrients in growing in soil (Like 80% more) compared in growing with Aero Garden. Is there a way to fix this difference by adding more nutrients or minerals to the water?🤔 ❤ 👍 👁
I love a good experiment and I may try growing two plants in the aerogarden vs soil now! I am not sure how you would test the nutrient differences but I could definitely test the difference between how they grow and how they taste. In terms of nutrients more isn’t necessarily better. I would just stick with the recommended amount personally. Too much could burn the plants or cause other imbalances. Hope that helps and thanks for the experiment/video idea!
Oh, one of my friends that come from Quebec (That has many books of a Science and contacts mentioned that there is a difference in the amount of nutrients of about 80%). Now, i think that could affect the Size and taste of the plants. Peronnaly i wnated to do some test using Ormus mixed in with plants Food Solution mix.
I’ve actually seen information (possibly opinion vs science) that hydroponics gives you MORE nutrients because they sit in the nutrients the entire time.
I was thinking of making Ormus and using that mixture to improve drastically the nutrient content and experiment using it. Some alchemist and plants growers on UA-cam said it made awesome effect and he also creates this mixture.
ive been asking so many questions about my sprouts, but the website doesnt have any answers. my herb sprouts are new and have some browning on the edges and im very concerned that if i do a rinse and refil to early ill hurt the baby sprouts. i did put all 6 herbs in my harvest slim, im just hoping it will still be okay and i wont have to throw any away. i am desperate for answers as i dont want my herb sprouts to die. ive looked it up and it said to rinse and refill. i was thinking of doing it as i think the cause might be i added in plant food to early- im not sure though and i want to fix the problem asap
I watched this 5 weeks ago, and am now on my 3rd lettuce harvest. :) My question today is about cherry tomatoes. I remember that you mentioned the heirloom varieties you grew in one video, but I can't seem to find it. Would you mind telling me here?
Amazing Liz! So happy the video was helpful and that your are harvesting food you grew! Newbie looking to buy my first Aerogarden - wanting to get a Harvest Elite to only grow herbs in my kitchen. Is the slim better than the square one for herbs? Should I plant them all at once when only growing herbs? Any tips appreciated - Thanks.
Hi Jason, Personally I like the slim as I feel it gives them more space! Depending on what herbs you want to grow would depend on how many to plant. I never recommend planting all the holes. If you are going to use all the things you plant very frequently or will prune heavily then it may be ok. Cilantro, dill and basil get quite big so I like to give them more space. Thyme is a nice lower one to grow in between. But it’s all about trying and seeing what works best for you. There isn’t a right a wrong really, just different ways of doing things! Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions

Yay Karline! Thanks so much for the kind words. I wish we had the AeroGarden sales you guys have in the US! The darn things never seem to go on sale in Canada. I love being able to grow food year round, especially with the rising food prices it’s nice to be able to supplement with homegrown food.
If the herbs are leaning over or laying flat should we use stakes to keep them upright?
Great informative video! Thanks for the thorough overview and helpful tips!
Thanks so much! Glad you found the video helpful. Happy growing
Can you put the sponge in the ground? After your seedlings come up?
Yes you can. I’ve done it many times
Do you have to use those sticky green plant covers?
Great question. They help to reduce the amount of light that the nutrient solution is exposed to. If too much light gets in then you can end up with algae. So it is a good idea to use them. Hope that helps
Can the plants be started in the areo garden and then transplanted out out doors when conditions are favorable?
Yes absolutely! I did a video on that very thing

Informative thank you!
Awesome! Happy growing! 🌱
Nice. I wish this video was available before my first aerogarden purchase a few years ago.
Thanks so much Stan! What are you growing now?
@@The_IndoorGardener You're certainly welcome. I'm currently in between. I started some tomatoes and cucumbers in my Bounty, recently transferred to my raised beds and will soon be planting herbs. I learned of the recent amazing sale at AeroGarden and just took delivery of a Farm 24XL ($325). I was planning to grow strawberries (dry root) and roma tomatoes but after research, apparently yield is low on strawberries and roma tomatoes apparently don't like AeroGardens very much so I'm working on a plan B.
@@StanDiego I saw they had an awesome sale but they stopped shipping to Canada so none for me 😭

Amazing introduction video, thank you so much!
So glad it was helpful!
Thanks for putting this video out. It's super useful
Thanks Breon! Glad you found it helpful, happy growing!

Great video, thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video - thank YOU! 🌹🌱🌼
Ty for all the info most appreciated 🤗
Hi. I’ve had problems with fruit flies. Do you have any suggestions how to prevent that? Thank you.
You are so welcome! Herbs and lettuce are great things to grow to cut down on the grocery list...plus they taste better when you grow them yourself!
@@The_IndoorGardener do I use regular tap or distilled water in the tank?
thank you for the info
Glad it was helpful
Wow, this was very helpful. Thank you. 🙏

Do we need a Grow Anything kit to use our own seeds, or can we reuse seed pods that come with the unit that have been used up?
Glad I could help! Just keep an eye on them and you will have to stay on top of pruning but you should still get a great harvest!
Very helpful information. Thank you! The comparison sheet is excellent and something I was looking for. I still don’t know what model I will buy from what manufacturer.
Hi Sabina, I’m so glad the chart was helpful! It’s nice seeing all the info in one place. They are addictive (in the best way) just to warn you!
I have 2 Harvest XL , what kind of fan do I get?
Any old small oscillating fan will do, no need for anything fancy. Keep it on low as you just want to simulate a gentle breeze to stimulate strong stem growth and aid with air circulation.
I do have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I 'm hoping you can help me. The aerogarden lights are preprogrammed to come on and off depending on your choice of pods. I grown seeds before and they don't require light to germinate and generally require darkness to sprout. Should I shut off the light until I see them sprout or doesn't it matter in a hydroponic system?
Thanks for all of the important information.
Hi Larry, Glad you found it helpful!! Do you have an AeroGarden yet?
I planted basil celantro and sage. Nothing sprouted in weeks except one celantro. Do I have to get new pods or can I reuse the same ones that were duds.
you can reuse all pods just tear off the roots and rinse if you grew on them before.
THANK YOU!
What type of plant do I need to get?
Will the pods from other companies work as well as the aero garden pods?
I have only tried the AeroGarden pods in my AeroGardens. I am currently using the LetPot with the pods it came with and my micro tomatoes are growing fine. But I haven't tried any other ones so I can't offer much more info than that sorry.
What about nutrients? Are they organic or lab made?
no they are not "organic" but youll be fine. all the food in your fridge was grown with lab made nutes. even "organic" food uses questionable items these days due to over farming.
Can you place it near a stove top or is it dangerous because of the gas and plants like oxygen
I’m having trouble getting seeds to germinate or grow. Water is good and seeds do fine in other media. What should I do?
What seeds are having trouble germinating? When did you plant them in your AeroGarden?
Sometimes it’s easier to sprout seeds on a paper towel and then move them to the pod.
- Spray a paper towel until moist.
- place seeds on top of the paper towel.
- place moist (not wet) paper towel in a plastic bag
- place plastic bag in a warm area (some put it on top of the lights)
I find this method is far better for sprouting. Once the plants have sprouted, you can drop them into the pods. If the seedlings get too big, you can slice one side of the pod and insert the plant into it from there.
Where do you find the dwarf seeds ? I’m interested but can’t find them 😅
Hi Jennifer, I get some from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds they have the orange hat tomato, tom thumb peas, dwarf Siberian kale, tiny hedou bok choy and a few others.
No replacement lights for any models available at this time. When I bought they said they did, now all have disappeared.
Oops! Now I found it. EPIC Renee's garden seed haul.
Well, I was mistaken. Would you tell me which heirloom varieties you use in the Aerogarden?
Amazing Liz! So happy the video was helpful and that your are harvesting food you grew! It’s such an awesome feeling :) I love the Orange Hat tomatoes from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds…they are much smaller plants that the Aerogarden ones and they give a decent amount of tomatoes too. if you are looking for other dwarf varieties I like check out my video on growing a bunch of them! ua-cam.com/video/ee0xJUk2eZc/v-deo.html
@@The_IndoorGardener Thanks! I'll head over there now.
For Tomatoes I grew Tiny Tim seeds it was the best grow every cherry size tomatoes, it's perfect for the Areogarden. I'm just getting ready to do it again, next time I want to try Micro Tom seeds. Seeds catalogs carry these seeds.
Love your videos!
Yay! Thanks so much!
How does everyone feel about the fact that Aerogarden is shutting down?
For me it’s sad and honestly I’m shocked. They were the OG!
Just massage pollinate with your fingers, or whatever is called specifically. For plants that actually need it.
@@The_IndoorGardener Thanks very much for replying so quickly - excited to get started but I just couldn't decide which would be best - I will definitely go with the slim!

You can call support for new lights.
Fill all the holes and prune aa you go. Don't grow plants that can't be pruned.
Not sure it’s a bad boy
Have you tried Foliage Pro from Dyna-Gro?
Ive heard from some knowledgeable people that it has the perfect ratio of nutrients for most plants, not just leafy plants. And most plants can grow in foliage pro from start to finish. (This is from people growing in bark-based soilless potting mix with no nutrients added than Osmocote)
It has twice the calcium that the MG aerogarden food.
I just want to hear from other people that have used it in hydro and how it went.
I appreciate you.
Thank you!
