  • Since I posted my last video where I shared my experience with the a7R IV paired with the 200-600 lens I've received a bunch of questions about the accessories I had on my lens. So I decided to make a short video to show you those accessories.
    Take a look.

    I got a 200-600mm f5.6~6.3 zoom on a Sony A7sIII and ever since I carried I took it off the tripod and have been hand carrying it, I notice an ever so so slight play between the lens and the camera body. Wondering if you could corroborate. So when the lens is attached it snaps into place but then if I wiggle the mammoth 200-600 lens there is slight movement-ish (if that is a word) in the flange between the body and lens - very very slight. Pictures seem fine!
    I put the 24mm f1.4 Gmaster lens and can feel it with that as well, but much less so than with the 200-600 where it is more pronounced. Again, not sure it is a problem but never experienced this with any other camera brand - my first Sony body.
    Feels like the lens moves a tiny tiny bit where the white dot is on the lens. Again, I went back and put on the 24mm after I noticed it on the 200-600 and it was there at the shorter focal length. Something I had never noticed before!

    You mentioned a lot of great things! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! :) Curious to know though, what strap do you use with the 200-600?

      My favorite cameras strap is discontinued, but I also use the Peak Design Black Slide Camera Strap: amzn.to/2OTv4oC

    Juan, I really appreciated your recommendations for LensCote (so?) and RRS accessories - and your disclosures as well. I have no problem with you having a relationship with either company as long as you make it clear in any post in which you recommend their products. Personally, I’m a huge aficionado of Really Right Stuff products, even though they command a premium price. I love the fact that they are both technologically excellent and made in USA-and I happen to own a couple of Really Right Stuff tripods, plus the Pano-Gimbal Head with Cradle Clamp, the BH 55, BH40, BH 30, BH 25 and the Compact Pano Gimbal Head, plus an L-bracket for each of my cameras, so you might say I like their stuff! I have none of the Lens Cote coverings and am interested in knowing whether they applied the covering to your telephoto, or you did. Thanks!

      Arthur, these are both excellent companies. Definately above the rest. You install the LensCoat yourself, it's neoprene without any adhesive so it's very easy to install and is not permanent.

    Juan, FYI - I ended up buying both the RRS LCF-102 replacement foot and the KirkPhoto version LP-68. I can honestly tell all they are really equal since KirkPhoto has added a Quick Detach (QD) socket. It is also $40 less at $90 vs. the $130 for the RRS version. Not trying to save money on such a critical piece of gear but having both it is really difficult to see any real difference. Just my opinion.

    I'm a new owner of the 200-600 mm lens and love it. But I must be the only person to not know that the lens hood can flip and screw on for travel. Subscribed to you after I saw you do it! Good video, thanks!!

      It's still much bulkier than it is without having it on. That extra width makes a huge difference in my bag.

    Thanks very much for the info. At 5:54 when you show how the lens foot can be attached to the PD strap, the part that goes into the QD socket, does that come with the strap or the foot? or is it sold separately? What's it called? Thanks.

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  4 роки тому

      It's called a QD Swivel. Some straps include it. You can buy them on Amazon for about $8. Here is a link: amzn.to/2RSVjtT

    Ordered the Lens coat some 10 days ago and I am waiting to get it delivered (the Netherands). Thanks for this review. However I am not convinced about the travel hood. First of all the hood of the Sony locks quite good and so far no experience of getting it to fall of. And what about the hoodie (which unfortunately I did not order directly too). Can't put the hoodie on the travel hood. So for me that one will not work. Thanks again.

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  4 роки тому

      I, and some others have had issues with the Sony hood, but if it works for you that is great.

  • @stefanglanz4825
    @stefanglanz4825 4 роки тому

    Juan, thanks for the Review - one thing you missed out imho is that the lens coat misses the cut outs for the focus hold buttons on the lens which makes them defacto unuseable. Unfortunately this info is also missing in their own website...

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  4 роки тому +1

      @stefan, this does not bother me, but if it bother you what I suggest you do is take a hole punch and make holes right were the focus hold buttons are and they will be super easy to find.

    Do you use a UV filter of any kind? I just got the 200-600 thanks to your reviews. I have herd that after adding a filter the lens has a hard time focusing

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, no I never use UV filter with my lenses. They cause more problems than they solve. They will degrade the quality of your images, can introduce ghosting and reduce contrast. I recommend ALWAYS using your lens hood instead to provide protection to your lens and shield it from stray light.

      Yes the BH-40 is a great ball head to use with the 200-600. I prefer to use the Arca-Swiss p0, but both will work well. You can check all my recommended equipment at kit.co/jpons

    Muy buenas Juan Pons, en unos días pienso comprar la sony A9 con el objetivo 200-600 G, para seguir con mi afición de fotografía de aves y en especial de limícolas por la costa. Bajo tu opinión mi compra es buena y aconsejable. En este vídeo me apunto la dirección de los dos productos recomendables, el neopreno y el pie montura arcas. Un saludo desde Asturias-España.
