- We are back again this week with Training Day, this movie was nothing I expected but we had a really good time watching it; shout out to Carlos for the movie!

yea shit was fully planned out from the beginning. that whole drug deal was staged on their part, he gave that cholo that pcp to sell as weed so he could confiscate it and give it to hawk’s character. and that would lead directly to when denzel said hawk couldnt kill him because he has drugs in his system.
@@nayru1855 nah the drug deal was real, because the kids in the car were legit shook. they werent informants or anything. think about it, he watched them pull up to buy the drugs. if anything he wouldve busted the guys sittin on the wall, sellin it 💯 i think it was a real bust, but Denzel’s character was so corrupt that he turned it into a dirty finesse against the Rook

When Ethan Hawke almost gets killed in that bathtub only to be saved by the wallet of Cliff Curtis' niece is a fantastic moment!
Cliff Curtis goes from literally being a second away from murder to uttering threats to kill. I think his point has been made already!

Half asleep and dunno if anyone's mentioned it yet, but fun fact, Denzel specifically pushed for Alonzo to have an ending of everything going to hell for him.
He really wanted to make sure his character got karma'd as much as he possibly could to push the message of what that kind of lifestyle would probably lead to.
Fun Fact: When filming this movie they actually had to get permission form the gang leader to film some of the movie in those projects where Alonzo (Denzel) lived
On some candy man shit.damn. Well that tv show narco should of did that but didn’t that’s why the cartel made someone disappear to show them you got to pay to play
Yup and most of those extras in the final 30 minutes or so are all real gang members. They put them in the movie as a sort of thanks/payment

Hey, interesting fact you guys. Washington's character "Alonzo" was loosely based on a former L.A.P.D. Police officer named *Rafael Pérez* who was ahead of a major crooked and corrupt cop scandal in the mid 90s.

When you think about it, this movie is really about karma. Throughout the course of the day, they meet a lot of people in some of LA’s worst areas. Jake isn’t perfect and not everyone he meets likes him, but he does the right thing anyway, and in the end, it saves his life and those dudes at the end have his back and let him go home.
I love how _every_ step of the way, Alonzo gives Hoyt a chance to turn back and get out. Each time, Hoyt chooses to follow Alonzo instead of leave.
Alonzo is essentially the Devil, constantly tempting Hoyt to go further and nearly got him, but Hoyt was “saved” by a heroic choice.
Wait till you rewatch it and hear Alonzo say " just make sure that tub is clean"
It’s funny bc I had seen this movie a few times before I caught that. Just solidifies how sick Alonzo is for trying to be cool with him right after
This was the movie that got Denzel his 2nd Oscar. His first as a villain also. Ethan and the film were nominated as well. Crazy thing too is, not once do you see Ethan or Denzels characters in the police station. From the diner to the streets, from morning to night in one day. Glad yall got to see it, Training Day is a Classic. Another film in this fashion you'd enjoy is Dark Blue starring Kurt Russell. 👍🏽🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥

Also the only other time Denzel had played a bad guy was A soldier's story which I still haven't watched. If it had been another actor then I might have seen it coming, on rewatch you see all the clues.

Your discussion after the film is good, because you guys always talk about valid observations about the film, and it’s turning points and character arcs and traits. They way a real film critic would. So often people who do reactions just go off on a non relevant rambling tangent of something the film reminded them of or something that becomes not relevant to the film. Denzel's character was such a scumbag. He said that he had to isolate himself from his family while he was playing this role. I forgot how good this movie was. Great reaction.

I really liked the chemistry between the Denzel and Scott Glenn characters. You just knew they had done some seriously evil deeds together and probably buried more than a few bodies. I really liked how early in the movie you are left trying to figure out whether Denzel is the world's best (street smart) or worst (corrupt) cop.
He been setting the guy up since the beginning it’s so many hints and phone calls to show it and how Denzel and his mentor talked and act the same and basically died the same way too

When Denzel took the part Alonzo was suppose to die just a regular death from one shot but Denzel said he had to die a very brutal death because of how evil he was

Terry Crews is not the one who said that. The actor who is said is named Bones. Who is a blood or blood member in real life. He's one of the guys Suge Knight ran over. He's the one who survived

I highly recommend watching this movie again. When you go back and watch it, you can see things that Alonzo did and the Clever ass planning that you missed the first time. Great fukin movie and an oscar performance by Denzel.

It also goes to show you to try to treat people right because you never know how it could help you later. That scene is the most powerful scene in the movie to me.
