On the first day of work, I had to travel to the office for my orientation. It was a work-from-home call centre job, so they made me bring my PC in to be inspected. Just the tower, but it was still a hassle to lug around. So I needed to phone a private taxi as I don't drive. But in the stress of moving my PC, I left my phone in the cab. It must have fallen out of my pocket as I held the tower. I had to borrow my new boss's phone to inform the car company and get another taxi to take me home his after the day was finished. In the end, I got my phone back, and my boss was great, but my first day was horrible as I felt so embarrassed 😢 Edit: Glad I didn't use Uber or Lift, as I feel like I wouldn't have gotten my phone back.
I got a job as a bartender through an agency. They gave us some training which was fun and helpful. But the first day was when the boss called me one Friday and told me there'd be a gig in three hours or so. But there was a catch: I couldn't tell anyone that it was my first time ever at the job. So there I was, a young guy eager to please everyone and be a good boy, doing my best to pretend that I was a seasoned bartender. Nothing catastrophic happened, but I didn't have much luck with bartending jobs after that, so that summer was spent mostly washing dishes and stuff like that.

I eventually left Walgreens and that is the worst company I have ever worked for. I told myself, I would never treat my employees like that. After moving on, I treated my employees as if they were gold. They were most valuable thing to me. Bought them lunch almost every day. Set goals and hand out rewards for accomplish them early.

So many good roles. Carbon copy is one I first remember seeing him onscreen. Decently rare for a black guy in a mainstream film at that time. My favorite underrated movie of his is Devil in a Blue Dress. Although Don Cheadle killed his role as well. Crimson Tide is a movie along with Glory are the most reacted to movies of his on UA-cam. Man in fire is my favorite. Fallen, is a good older Denzel movie most haven't seen about him tracking a supernatural serial killer. Also out of time and deja Vu aren't the greatest movies of all time but both are thrillers and would make good reactions.
Glory is where he won his first Oscar and it is not only a great performance, it's a fantastic movie (based on a true story) and one which will be a change of pace from something like Man on Fire (which I love, but it's a bit more of the same as The Equaliser).
1998's Fallen with Denzel is a tragically underrated movie. I don't know anyone that has seen it that didn't love it, but it was so poorly advertised that it never caught on and younger generations have often never heard of it.
Alonzo was based on a real corrupt LAPD officer named Rafael Perez. I loved how Denzel played him, like a medieval Lord shaking down his serfs. It gave the character such a tragic grandeur that we don't see in other movies like this. You guys should definitely react to End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal, it's by the same director as this and it's probably the best cop movie in a very long time.
That's a great point, about Alonzo/Perez occupying a sort of corrupt feudal Lord type role - I think it's backed up by the Shakespearean stakes of the plot, a whole community suffering under the tyranny, finally seeing his true form and walking away, leaving him to his self-destruction
This film is sometimes referenced as the only one where Denzel plays a bad guy. But there is another incredible (and pretty underlooked one if you ask me) film of his which is called American Gangster. Directed by none other than Ridley Scott by the way and starting Russell Crowe as well. Very much worth watching.
In American Gangster they go out of their way to show Denzel as "bad guy with a golden heart", even though the real Frank Lucas was a brute and cruel guy.
“Inside Man” with Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, Christopher Plummer, directed by Spike Lee, is an underrated gem. And yes, Denzel plays a good guy. Classic Denzel. Really good bank heist story.
The whole King Kong line was completely improvised and the director just let him roll. Also, Denzel Washington is without a doubt, a master of his craft. Superb, phenomenal, amazing.
Watch Denzel in Malcolm X, where he just takes over the character and becomes him. Not sure if that was his breakout but it's definitely one of his best roles. Thanks for reacting! Denzel is so good that he never seems typecast. He can play anything and be convincing. He's the Cate Blanchett of male actors.
If you guys want to see another movie with Denzel where he’s amazing and both a “good guy” (grey), but also scary, Man on Fire is amazing, you guys would enjoy it
When Jake saved that girl, he had unknowingly acquired ‘life insurance.’ Love it when the good guy or gal uses the words of the villain against him or her.
The scene where they are playing cards is amazing, the way the tension builds up even before you fully understand what is going down. The very first time I watched that scene made me feel exactly the same feeling as when you have smoked too much & in the wrong location. That paranoia & acute anxiety building up and up is exactly what I felt. I have never felt anything so visceral before or since and I cannot explain why, I guess for some reason that scene just resonates with me personally for whatever reason.
Man On Fire is a great example of Denzel as a good guy who does break the rules, but is still a good guy. He also does a good job portraying someone struggling with post traumatic stress.
Another incredible Denzel Washington performance that is less bad and more complex is the 2012 movie Flight. Directed by Robert Zemeckis where He plays a hero that saves a lot of people but is an alcoholic and his character is questioned but it ends in a happy manner where he redeems himself. I think you guys will love that and it has one of the best plane crash sequences I’ve ever seen. It’s thrilling.
Flight is always forgotten in D's catalog. The crash scene is unbearable...but my fave moment comes early on as, after cooking & partying all nite, he swings suddenly into the hotel hallway, all patched up & looking like the movie pilot's we all want to see flying OUR plane...except he' still high, hungover, & effed up morally.
His breakout movie was really Glory. Even though he wasnt THE star in that, had already done the TV show St. Elsewhere and had been the leading actor in other movies, it wasn't until Glory that everyone pretty much knew he would be the next big main event Hollywood star.
Denzel can do anything and be just incredible. He is one of the greatest actors ever, for sure. You should check out more from this director. His name is Antoine Fuqua and he has made some wonderful movies such as Tears of the Sun, Shooter, and The Magnificent Seven (also with Denzel and Ethan Hawke). He also directed The Equalizer, so he and Denzel have done a lot together. Also, to answer your question around 13:15, if you swallow bindles of something then it is a gamble if your stomach acid eats through the balloon or not. If it does, you will most likely overdose and die. If it doesn't, you will poop it out later. If the cops know you swallowed something, the most common approach is to take you to jail, put you in a cell without a working toilet, and fish the bindles out of the shit later. It is called being "dry celled" and it is unpleasant, but effective.
Replacement Killers, though taking a lot of style from John Woo, is a great early Fuqua. His action work is fantastic, but he gets great performances from his actors too.
To me his breakout role had to be in Glory... Which helped lead to X... One of his hidden gems for me is a detective noir film called Devil in a Blue dress... Then there's Ricochet, the Siege, Remember the Titans, the Manchurian Candidate remake and Inside Job are my favorites... I think you guys could do one of these a week for the next few months 😂🔥💯
The Mighty Quinn (1988), Man on Fire (2004), The Pelican Brief (1993), Crimson Tide (1995), Malcolm X (1992), and Philadelphia (1993) are a few Denzel Washington films I can think of off the top of my head.
He won an Oscar for this because that year Russell Crowe was supposed to win for A Beautiful Mind but shorty before that Russell had a big fight with the head of the academy and pinned him against a wall. The head swore he would never win another Oscar again and that year Denzel and Halley Berry won. Denzel should have won an Oscar outright for Flight. He was amazing in that.
In Glory, Denzel plays a character that has a lot of anger.. mad at the world and everyone in it. and by the end you just cry rooting for him. He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Costarring Morgan Freeman. But for sheer Denzel? Man on Fire is IT. There is a reason he worked with Tony Scott so much.
This movie is fantastic. One of my favorites! Man on Fire is a great film with Denzel back in the "good" or "protector" role if you're anxious to see him likeable again. Also take a look at John Q
Its amazing how much range Denze has. No matter the role, who goes full into it, embracing it. I have watched many, many Denzel films and I have never seen performance where he hasn´t put everything possibly on play as much as script allows it. From Training Day, to Equalizer, to Rememer the Titans, John Q and Glory. One of the most underrated Denzel film is: Unstoppable (2010).
Not sure if you've already reacted to Denzel in The Book of Eli but, if not, that's an amazing post-apocalyptic tale. And Gary Oldman plays another of his wonderfully twisted bad guys. Highly recommend it.
One of the best acting performances ever! Denzel was so good in this, even though we all saw how messed up his character really was, he still remained somewhat likeable until the very end. Honestly, I would just love to see Denzel in a proper villian role once more
Man on fire is a great Denzel as a badass good guy. It's like if this character in training day had a life experience that made him change to make amends
Glory, in 1989, was Denzel’s breakout role and a worthwhile watch for you guys (also starring Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, and Cary Elwes of Princess Bride fame).
Not sure if you guys have already watched it, but Remember the Titans is a great movie and Denzel is fantastic and definitely the protagonist. One of my favorites!
Remember the Titans is his best likeable role. I believe Glory was his first big role as a supporting actor and he won an academy award, golden globe, NAACP image award. On screen with Matthew Brodrick, Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, and Captain Holt himself.
Denzel won an Academy Award for this performance, although deserved at the same time it was a makeup award for the Oscar’s historic blunder for Denzel not winning it for Malcolm X prior which to this day most people say he should’ve gotten it for.
Book of Eli was Denzel as a hero. Good flick. Glory, or Virtuosity are the first things I remember seeing him in, but I feel like I'm forgetting some big roles.
Glory was the film that made Denzel a star. I'd also recommend Malcolm X and Glory. Besides this role my fav of his was Flight, where he plays a good guy with flaws
Great reaction as always! The movie that made me fall in love with Denzel when I was young was John Q. Otherwise I'm sure people will recommend Man on Fire and Philadelphia. Really you can't go wrong with anything he does.
His other big villain role is American Gangster. I'd say the role that exploded him was Malcolm X. A movie that, to this day, a shockingly small amount of black people have seen considering his star power. Which just shows how controversial the man himself was. Even despite the fake embrace he's received recently from scheming cons.
You guys should watch blood in blood out, it's a 3 hour long movie about Mexican gangs in L.A it's one if my favorite movies of all time it's a Rollercoaster of emotions 💯
Crimson Tide for the big blockbuster with Denzel as the good guy (on a submarine!) Also the award winning Phillidelphia where he co-stars with Tom Hanks
Denzel plays boxer, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in the movie, The Hurricane. It's about a true story of a rising middleweight boxer who is wrongly convicted of triple murder. One of his most powerful performances.
You mean what US cops are in reality ? Just by going from how many times US cops shoot unarmed people in wrong address . When white middle class people think US cops are like Columbo , Kojak or Tony Scali (The Commish) , Michael Chiklis is polar opposite to his role in The Shield .
Denzel's big break: As I understand it, Denzel Washington started as a New York based theater actor whose career gained traction due to the success of "A Soldier's Play" for which he was a member of the original cast. His next major milestone was a six year run on the American television series "St. Elsewhere", fallowed by the 1987 film "Cry Freedom (1987)", for which he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He finally won the Oscar for Best supporting Actor for the 1989 film "Glory". If you're looking for "Good Guy" Denzel Washington movies that aren't bio-pics, I'm partial to "Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)" and "Inside Man (2006)".
This is my favorite Denzel movie, but my second favorite has to be Remember the Titans. Such a great movie, whether you love football or know nothing about it. Would love that reaction!
At 26:34 - George says 'this is what happens when you have max charisma'. Yeah, exactly, Denzel is so charming that even though he's a horrible criminal and directly advocating actions that Hawke is supposed to spend his life preventing, you listen to him. This role is a demo reel for why Denzel is so well regarded as an actor.
His break out role was cry freedom his first oscar nomination. Then glory in which he won his first academy award. Then in the 90s he did Philadelphia & the pelican brief. All this was before Vurtiosity
Great job guys. Another movie even better that almost nobody has reacted to us: “Lord of War.” With Ethan Hawke & Nicholas Cage. Based on a true story! Another Denzel movie even better is: “Inside Man.” Hope you react to it!
"Fallen" (1998) is great; Denzel as a perfectly likeable and it's a great watch. Perfect for your channel. Also some good people have mentioned "The Pelican Brief", "Crimson Tide", and "Philadelphia". All also good films. Love the channel, guys.
You must see “Inside Man”! Quality high end crime thriller. Denzel is the main character (and good guy). Excellent actors throughout. Clive Owen. Jody Foster. Willem Defoe…
Denzel has made a career out of playing good, decent men. But like Tom Hanks, he's way more versatile to be constricted by that character type. I'd say his breakout role was in "Glory" which he won a Supporting Actor Oscar for. But prior to that, he was a main cast member on the TV drama "St. Elsewhere" which was a very acclaimed and respected series. You'll probably want to see him in "Malcolm X", the submarine thriller "Crimson Tide" and as a literal angel in "The Preacher's Wife". Other good ones would be "Courage Under Fire" (military officer), "Remember the Titans" (football coach), "John Q" (father of a sick child), "Inside Man" (cop dealing with bank robbers), "The Book of Eli" (post-apocalypse survivor), and "Roman J. Israel Esq" (lawyer). If you'd like to see him play another bad guy, check out "American Gangster" co-starring Russell Crowe. He also co-starred with Tom Hanks in the Oscar-winning drama "Philadelphia", one of his very best roles.
I absolutely feel like Training Day is essentially a non-supernatural horror movie, like Witchfinder General or The Wicker Man (the original) - also films about terrifying social power structures being wielded by charismatic monsters
"My shortest job was seven minutes" "What is it?" "It's a long story, I'll tell ya later". That struck me as hilarious, even though I know that wasn't the intent.
Antwone Fisher: Dramatic film with Denzel as the mentor Carbon Copy: 19 yr. old Denzel.. maybe his first starring role? Malcolm X: Classic true story of a man who goes through transformations as his life moves forward.
You guys were dissecting the movie in real-time but you missed everything Alonzo said would happen to Hoyt happen to him including the narrative at the very end where he said narcotics officers survived by children he said that exact same line to Hoyt earlier what happened to him if he didn't follow through
John Q is a really good, good guy Denzel role. a Soldier story or Glory would probably be his break out role (both are excellent!) May 19th is Malcolm X's Birthday you should watch Spike Lee's "X" for that- one of Denzel's greatest roles.
Commenters here are bringing up Denzel’s role in “Glory”, which got him his first Oscar; but his first movie role, a movie which was also nominated for several Oscars, was “A Soldier’s Story”. It’s a movie that not many people mention or remember, but was fantastic and well worth watching and reacting to. Denzel was good enough to get nominated, but the actor who played his Sargeant got a Best Supporting Actor nomination (I think he won that year too).
For MOST people, Glory was probably his breakout role that made him an A lister. However, the first movie where I thought omg, this guy is going to be huge, was The Mighty Quinn!!! Holy crap he just oozes charisma in Mighty Quinn. Plus i’ve never seen women swoon for anyone more than the first time they see him in that white police uniform. A second movie that is maybe my overall favorite Denzel movie is Devil in a Blue Dress. Fantastic movie!!
For a complete change of pace, check out Denzel in "Much Ado About Nothing". It also features Emma Thompson, Robert Sean Leonard, Michael Keaton, Keanu Reeves, and Kate Beckinsale in her film debut. Kenneth Branagh adapted the Shakespeare play for the screen and directed it, also stars in the film.

That's a great point, about Alonzo/Perez occupying a sort of corrupt feudal Lord type role - I think it's backed up by the Shakespearean stakes of the plot, a whole community suffering under the tyranny, finally seeing his true form and walking away, leaving him to his self-destruction
Denzel listened to recordings of Perez as part of preparing to copy some of his swagger in this role.
Yeah, End of Watch is hard body, so intense!!! It's actually directed by David Ayer though, who wrote the script for Training Day.
Who was involved in the assassination of Biggie smalls.
Alonzo's license plate. ORP 967. Officer Rafael Perez born 1967.
Denzel is one of the greatest actors of all time. His performance in this movie was phenomenal and it earned him the best actor award.
Denzel’s swag was on 10 this movie. Had the younger generation of women realizing what their moms saw in him
Actually it's 11. Most people’s swag only goes to 10 but Denzel's goes to 11.
If you need to see Denzel as a good guy again, do "Man On Fire" next!
No… we need “John Q”
He’s one of those guys that’s just fun to watch do anything.
This is a top 10 all-timer for me, it is so intense. Denzel is absolutely untouchable.
Denzel saying “your in the office” with Dr Dre slowly starting in the background, one of my favorite movie moments
Flight is a great movie…makes you question these pilots tho 😂😂
His breakout movie was really Glory. Even though he wasnt THE star in that, had already done the TV show St. Elsewhere and had been the leading actor in other movies, it wasn't until Glory that everyone pretty much knew he would be the next big main event Hollywood star.
Glory is an incredible movie about the first black regiment in the American civil war. That would be a great reaction to do.
He was also in Carbon Copy from 1981 that was very good too! and memorable!
Love the magnificent seven
@@LordVolkov I didn’t know Replacement Killers was a Fuqua movie. I haven’t seen it in a long time but I remember loving it!
Crimson Tide (1995) features an intense acting battle between Denzel & Gene Hackman.
American Gangster is a pretty good Denzel Washington movie, which usually is slept on
Great underrated movie
Good movie, underrated Russell Crowe performance
SPOILER:
I love the scene where Denzel's character kills the guy who owned him money so casually, in broad daylight lol
A very good movie that would've been great if the ending wasn't so flat and abrupt. Still totally worth a watch, though.
@@cavaughngrace1488 isn't that Idris Elba that he kills?
Man on fire, John Q, Philadelphia are all great Denzel movies where he's a good guy.
In John Q, I'm not sure Denzel's character is good per se, but he is right.
@@JeshuaSquirrel of course hes "good" in that movie. Ethically speaking, he did nothing "bad".
Meant with all due respect. I like discourse
John Q!!!!!
Unstoppable is such an under rated film, and given what has happened since, I'm amazed more people don't talk about it.
Not sure if you've already reacted to Denzel in The Book of Eli but, if not, that's an amazing post-apocalyptic tale. And Gary Oldman plays another of his wonderfully twisted bad guys. Highly recommend it.
John Q
The Hurricane
And Malcolm X
There are all movies that Denzel should have won awards for more than Training Day. In 2 he is playing real people
in training day he's portraying a person based on a real person
@@SutekhDaSteemroller you know what I mean.
@@Xfactor444-x4n Yes I know what you mean, you are talking about other nice movies of Denzel but Training Day is my favourite interpretation of him.
"Flight" has one of my favorite Denzel performances; not a villian but an ambiguous character that only he could play.
My buddy showed me this film and I love it. Have to rewatch it every few years and what better excuse than a CineBinge reaction??
One of the best acting performances ever! Denzel was so good in this, even though we all saw how messed up his character really was, he still remained somewhat likeable until the very end. Honestly, I would just love to see Denzel in a proper villian role once more
Man on fire is a great Denzel as a badass good guy. It's like if this character in training day had a life experience that made him change to make amends
Glory, in 1989, was Denzel’s breakout role and a worthwhile watch for you guys (also starring Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, and Cary Elwes of Princess Bride fame).
Yep he won his 1st academy award for Best Supporting actor. Training Day was his Best Actor Oscar
Not sure if you guys have already watched it, but Remember the Titans is a great movie and Denzel is fantastic and definitely the protagonist. One of my favorites!
Fallen is an awesome Denzel movie! You definitely should watch it.
This was incredible.... I love your reactions for Training Day so much! I will watch this one again
a movie called Fallen is one of denzel's best, somewhat lesser known and underrated but a good movie
training day is awesome, as well tho
Gotta love how Simone starts the movie all happy and full of spark, and by the end her soul has left her body. This movie, hey?
Remember the Titans is his best likeable role. I believe Glory was his first big role as a supporting actor and he won an academy award, golden globe, NAACP image award. On screen with Matthew Brodrick, Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, and Captain Holt himself.
Left side......
Denzel won an Academy Award for this performance, although deserved at the same time it was a makeup award for the Oscar’s historic blunder for Denzel not winning it for Malcolm X prior which to this day most people say he should’ve gotten it for.
You guys have to watch "Fallen" with Denzel. One of his best movies, imo. Thanks for your content. :D
This movie does not get old. Absolute classic
Book of Eli was Denzel as a hero. Good flick.
Glory, or Virtuosity are the first things I remember seeing him in, but I feel like I'm forgetting some big roles.
His breakout role was "Glory" way back in 1989(?).
Dave Chappelle redid the wet scene with Wayne Brady on his show. It was funny as hell.
"Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bi***?"
@@SteveTube939 funny as hell.
“Crimson Tide” - two generations’ top tier actors. Brilliant Writing also excellent.
My favourite Ethan Hawke movie is Gattaca. I recommend you guys react to that.
"All that jelly, no toast"
I think by jelly he's referring to the chest and by toast he means the buns
Crimson Tide for the big blockbuster with Denzel as the good guy (on a submarine!)
Also the award winning Phillidelphia where he co-stars with Tom Hanks
Denzel plays boxer, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in the movie, The Hurricane. It's about a true story of a rising middleweight boxer who is wrongly convicted of triple murder. One of his most powerful performances.
Bob Dylan also wrote the song called "The Hurricane"
If you liked Training Day I would also highly recommend the tv show "The Shield" its an amazing show about corrupt cops.
You mean what US cops are in reality ? Just by going from how many times US cops shoot unarmed people in wrong address .
When white middle class people think US cops are like Columbo , Kojak or Tony Scali (The Commish) , Michael Chiklis is polar opposite to his role in The Shield .
Inside Man is a great movie with Denzel as a good guy cop in over his head. Basically plays the Ethan Hawke role from this movie.
I think Glory was Denzel Washington's first big role. He was great in it.
Denzel Washington's breakout role was virtuosity. He was a good guy in The Book of Eli. Literally my favorite Denzel Washington movie.
His break out role was cry freedom his first oscar nomination. Then glory in which he won his first academy award. Then in the 90s he did Philadelphia & the pelican brief. All this was before Vurtiosity
Malcolm X also
I wasn't actually being literal. But yes. Thanks for the clarification.
A good DW movie with him as a unquestonably good guy is "Fallen", really liked it. Also staring are John Goodman and James Gandolfini
Great job guys. Another movie even better that almost nobody has reacted to us: “Lord of War.” With Ethan Hawke & Nicholas Cage. Based on a true story! Another Denzel movie even better is: “Inside Man.” Hope you react to it!
Inside Man is such a cool movie. I recommend it often.
I love lord of war
Lord of War is criminally underrated.
Awesome film
@@TheJoshestWhite
Which of the two I suggested?
"Fallen" (1998) is great; Denzel as a perfectly likeable and it's a great watch. Perfect for your channel.
Also some good people have mentioned "The Pelican Brief", "Crimson Tide", and "Philadelphia". All also good films.
Love the channel, guys.
John Q - He's great it that aswell
It’s crazy how y’all talked over one of the best parts in the whole movie😅
you should probably watch denzel in malcolm x or american gangster
You must see “Inside Man”! Quality high end crime thriller. Denzel is the main character (and good guy). Excellent actors throughout. Clive Owen. Jody Foster. Willem Defoe…
yall are cool but its embarassing that it took that long for you guys to realize denzel was the bad guy
"Courage Under Fire"
Underrated and never gets mentioned. Matt Damon, Meg Ryan, Lou Diamond Phillips and Michael Moriarty.
Gonna push Devil in a Blue Dress. Denzel as a neo-noir protagonist in a 1950's hard-boiled mystery. Great stuff.
There are a ton more Easy Rawlins novels, all great, and they stopped at one movie. Such a shame.
Denzel as "Good Guy":
- Man On Fire
- John Q
- The Siege
- The Bone Collector
- Unstoppable
- Deja Vu
Denzel wasn't a bad guy in this movie though...
A corrupt police detective isn't a bad guy? 🤔
At the beginning when you guys were laughing all I could think was "You won't be laughing much longer".
Great movie!!
Good guy Denzel, Man On Fire (good guy bad ass), American Gangster (bad guy), Antwone Fisher (good guy and you will shed a tear)
"My shortest job was seven minutes"
"What is it?"
"It's a long story, I'll tell ya later".
That struck me as hilarious, even though I know that wasn't the intent.
1996’s ‘Virtuosity’ with Denzel and a then unknown actor named Russell Crowe.
1993’s ‘The Pelican Brief’ with Denzel and Julia Roberts.
Antwone Fisher: Dramatic film with Denzel as the mentor
Carbon Copy: 19 yr. old Denzel.. maybe his first starring role?
“If your new boss makes you smoke PCP, don’t” - Lol
