      But then he cheated. It's what made him so great. He already was a HOF then when he should have been ending his career he decided to use steroids and it made him better. Same with Clemens. Pete Rose bet on baseball and was banned for life. But to me steroids was worse.

    As a Padres fan I witnessed many of the countless HR's he hit off the Padres but the one I remember the most was when I was in the right field bleachers at Qualcomm stadium and Barry hit one so hard when it traveled over my head you can hear the sizzle of the ball cutting through the air. The ball was still on an upward trajectory and would have gone at least another 100 plus feey out of the entire stadium if not for the jumbotron scoreboard getting in the way. Once the ball hit the scoreboard it came embeddedd in one of the pixel squares of the jumbotron. Everyone in the stands was like amazed at what they just saw. This was prior to all of the steroid talk, the guy was amazing. The only other player I have witnessed hit a ball further in that stadium was Willie Stargell.

    As a baseball fan I can say Barry was the best player I ever saw. The fact that he is not in the HOF is a joke! Although his suspected roid use sucks, and as it was said in the video, so many other players were using and a lot were pitchers, he was the best. What is not said enough is the steroids were NOT ILLEGAL in the game at that time! Bud Selig was the commissioner who turned a blind eye to the usage because it made the game relevant and grew fans! How is HE in the HOF and Barry is not?? The HOF is a joke without the best players from their era...regardless of what they were taking to make the game better! There are many men in the HOF that wouldn't be if the same standards were applied then as there are now. The excuses made are based on Character and Sportsmanship: Assessment of a player's integrity, sportsmanship, and character. Barry is not in because he had a bad relationship with the media.

  • @netrade3898
    @netrade3898 6 днів тому +3

    I'll give props to AJ on saying Barry was better than Griffey offensively. Here's why. When Griffey went to Cincinnati, I thought he and Barry would be neck and neck in IBBs year after year. Well, in his first season in Cincinnati, Griffey only mustered 17 intentional walks, while Barry got twice that number. Griffey never ever commanded that level of respect even without the DH in the lineup while in the National League.
    Plus, outside of his rookie year (100+ K's) Barry didn't strike out at all for a power hitter except for 90+ in '01. Barry was always at least 20-25 less K's than Griffey and FAR more walks. I love Griffey, but Barry commanded way more respect in the area of intimidation when it came to pitching strategy.

      @koningklootzak7788 I guess you know more than me and majority of all mlb players. I've never heard anyone but today's young fans say ohtani is the best ever. His numbers don't add up and he hasn't done it long enough. Let's check back in 5 to 6 years. Merry Christmas

    He was great before he started cheating. He was better IIRC between 36-38 yo than he was 30-32 yo, which without PEDs wouldn't happen.

    Bonds cheated, but he was also a 1st ballot HOF player prior to using gear. Would the numbers be what they were without the get, no of course not. That said, Bonds is a Top 3 offensive player All-Time. There’s Ruth, Williams, Bonds & Mays. Those 4 offensively were unmatched.

    I can't say he was the greatest player, because I think there were a couple of guys who could keep up with him with the bat, but his defense was not great. He was not a very good left fielder...
    You can certainly make the case he's the best hitter ever...
    The argument I don't like is that steroids only give you more power. Na, it can make a fly ball to right a home run, which ups your batting average. Steroids makes jam shots land in shallow left instead of in the 3rd baseman's glove. Steroids give you the capability to catch up to that high heater that might blow passed most guys...
    I'm not denying his greatness, but I do think that steroids certainly were a factor. As far as being a pure hitter, even if he was on steroids, he definitely could be the best to ever do it.
    I probably gotta give it to Ken Griffey Jr as far as greatest player ever, but Barry bonds was a monster, and nobody can deny that.

    It is not the juice. I don't even think he started juicing until after his historic 400-400 season, which coincidentally was the same year McGwire and Sosa stole the limelight. The dude will not be in the HOF because he is a legendary asshole. That said, the guy was the best.
