Wet moss gave way under your feet, and deep-set roots curled under your toes. Trees surrounded you at every turn, yet the thin autumn leaves allowed beams of light to filter and light your dim path. As you venture deeper into the woods, your destination unknown and your continuous journey a fleeting memory, a thought enters your head: you aren't alone. Flickers of a hunched, shapeless shadow amongst the trees became far too often to be chalked up to the mind playing tricks on you, even in the fading light. Something didn't seem... right, about it. Something about it _felt_ human, but the ease and speed it traversed the thick tree roots and tangles of foliage just didn't seem possible in any normal human. And, as you ventured further still, the shadow grew closer, coming more so into focus. The vague figure now defined by a long cover of tattered potato sack, and a distinct (if barely distinguishable) profile, which seemed to dart past more and more often. You ventured further still. Every bit of primal sense screaming for you to turn back, but human curiosity told you; "you've made it this far, why stop now?" The figure grew closer. You could make her out now. A woman, at least in her 70s, draped in cloth that had probably been around longer than you. Her face pinched from a lifetime you only hoped to imagine, her expression focused dead ahead of her. To her, it seemed, you were nothing more than a fleeting shadow in her peripherals. You ventured further. It was different this time. She hadn't passed by you for quite a while. And somehow, that... that didn't sit right. The primal sense was taking over, but your body persisted without fail. You kept moving forward, even though you didn't want to. You came to a halt, digging your toes into the mud to stop yourself. You'd half buried your shoes in the ground before you could stop from automatically moving your legs. With the hopeless curiosity now gone, you turned on your heels, ready to just walk until you reached the edge. Two bulbous, narrowed eyes stared back at you. Her wrinkled lips shifted above what you could only assume were the aged remnants of teeth. Your stare lingered in hers, and neither moved a muscle. The wind rustled her greyed hair, and bitterly stung your cheek. You dared not look away from her, and it seemed she felt the same. She said nothing. Only held out a piece of paper between a boney forefinger and thumb. She nodded to it, holding it out a little further. _She... wants me to take it?_ Noting your hesitation, or so it seemed, she forced the paper to your chest. Without thinking, you took it, and glanced down. _...?_ It was... the _best_ day of your life. Clearly recorded, in exact detail, in a palm-sized black and white photograph. The memories followed soon thereafter; the good ones, the bad ones, and the ones you'd nearly forgotten. Your whole lifetime descended upon your mind in an instant, remembering all the connections you made, all the events, all the things you wish you'd forget and the things you wish you'd _never_ forget. Icy cold, running down your cheek, startled you from your daydream. You lift your free hand, gently swiping towards your ear. _Am I... crying?_ A quick observation of your hand confirmed it- under the dim lights, your palm glistened with tears. She smiled a little wider, giving a nod. You went to hand back the photo, but as your hand outstretched, she simply pushed it back. She nodded again, with an insistent tone. If she spoke, she probably would have said "no, you keep it." You looked down again, admiring the photograph you handled with such care between your fingers. "Thank-" She was gone. But, you still had her lingering memory, and that was enough. (Sorry, listened to the first song, Rio Grande, and immediately thought "wowzers imagine if there was some wacky old magic woman in the woods and she kept photos of every single person's best memory, and should she ever encounter them, she gives them said photo. And then they're happy for a while and everything's nice and good" and I know it's dumb but my feverish fingers just _had_ to type it lol. Anyways, hope you liked it lol)
I'm the same! I actually first stumbled across their 'Soldier, Poet, King' which led me to their Dear Wormwood album (which it you care to look into enough like I did actually contains brilliant dystopian lore) and now I'm here and OMG I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS BAND lmao
All your songs are like medicine for the soul. I've had rough days where your songs have pulled me away from the darkness-thank you for sharing your light ❤
I love your art and I hope you have a nice day or night and I wish you the best of luck for your journey ahead of you or anyone else who has read this and everyone one who has have the best day you can!!!
I have made a connection albums in the oh hellos channel are also code names for the syndicate in the dream smp now this one Zephyrus is philza's code name in the syndicate
You're a saint for not putting ads on this
I don't think they're allowed to!
They don't own this music they wouldn't be allowed to
@@idontneedaname318 duKvz I got
There's ads on it now, dunno if UA-cam put them on or the creator
But with this we can clearly see the amazing transition between Mummurations/Reading the augury and Soap. Thank you for making this!
The Oh Hellos make the kind of music that feels like every good thing in the world and some of the bad things too but in a good way
Can't have the light without the dark kind of thing yea?

Thank you, good friend!
Thanks UA-cam for recommend me this work of art.
I've listened to this at least 100 times and it still gives me chills.
Listening to this on loop and reading Greenwood by Michael Christie is one of the most rejuvenating experiences I’ve had with a book.
Playing in loop.. so refreshing to my sylvester soul
"Oil and water don't mix" trying to listen to my indie folk over here and then getting hit by arcane flashbacks
THEY'RE POLAR OPPOSITES
