    That's professional flying and those Pilots made it look so ordinary, that approach view was very scenic, nicely done video.

    These pilots are champs. GA pilots could learn a great deal about energy management during landing from these guys

    Awesome, why not a straight in approach?

    Wow that's impressive! I'm not an aviation expert but this landing definitely looks different than those of passenger jets like 737, a320... This one has a faster pace, the other ones look like slow motion.
    Also I was surprised to see that the plane wasn't aligned with the runway until the last moment.
    I get the feeling this landing wasn't guided by instruments but just manual and entirely based on the pilots' skill, am I right?

    • @JorenAvi
      @JorenAvi  3 роки тому +4

      Yes, your right. It is a difficult airport.
      About manual landings, also on the big jets 99% of the landings are done manual and by just looking at the runway. Only when visibility drops to the bare minimum, landings are done by instruments and the autopilot.

      @@JorenAvi really? I thought that in passenger jets (like 737, a320 etc.) landings were done flying manually but relying on instruments (the ils). I knew landings usually aren't done on autopilot but I thought pilots still used some level of assistance. That voice you hear saying "minimums" and then counting down "one hundred", "fifty", "forty", "thirty", "twenty", "ten", and the Airbus saying "retard", don't those voices come from some kind of guidance system?

    • @JorenAvi

      @@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor Ah I thought you meant the last part of the approach. You are right that most landings have guidance like an ILS, GNNS to get you on final and trough your first part of the descent profile of the approach. It all brings you to a point where you should be able to see the runway(environment). When passing "minimums" you should continue further visually. The call outs come from the altimeter system and can be pre selected. However, there are still a lot of airfields without ILS or where a visual approach is shorter. The latter even applies to AMS.

    Why dont you just land from the other side? There is no hill in the way of the approach, just a bay with the runway ending right at the sea and even sloped up helping planes decel. Not meant as an offensive question, just been wondering why pilots choose the "hard way" on this airport.

    • @zackaplowitz

      Wind makes it easier than the other option.

    • @zackaplowitz
      @zackaplowitz 3 роки тому +1

      And the approach to the other end is actually also complicated due to terrain!

      I spent an afternoon on that beach many years ago. That day the planes did come in over the water and almost touched down on the beach. The end of the runway actually had sand on it.

      I am not a pilot, but I have been to St. Barth's. If they come in the other away, and if they need to abort the landing, the plane may not get enough lift fast enough to avoid crashing into that steep hill.
