Two things number one never understood why they built the plane with throttles above the head of the pilot , secondly you dam sure wont land long on that runway .

Man I wish there was more on short take-offs! Like ski-jumpers, paragliders, skateboarders, or anyone else actually putting themselves on the line for pure pleasure. Big kudos to medics b.t.w. doing the same to save others crossing it involuntarily. And I am sure pilots appreciate their privilege of training and sunny skies above the clouds every day at work!

Good shortfield/runway take off procedure.

The planes are usually twin otters which are good for landing on short runways. The twin otters land on Saba using only half the runway there. Also, the pilots take care not to permit too much luggage. If you are on St. Maarten and want to take the 15 minute fun plane hop to Saba to enjoy the unforgettable beauty up on the mountain there and the friendly people (and tasty food!) (I hear the diving is amazing but have not yet tried it myself) but have a lot of luggage you can stay overnight on St. Maarten, enjoy the sandy beach there, and then take a ferry boat to Saba from there. The hike up to the top of Saba is not difficult at all, and toward the top is an enchanting rainforest that is the experience of a lifetime.

Look at the anemometer during the approach, it is only 2-3 knots from stall speed with flaps fully extended. It is the only way to land considering the short length of the runway.

I have been on this plane so many times. wow so nostalgic, amazing memories, best 2 years of life spent on Saba Island.

The Copilot made it look like a very routine professional takeoff from the worlds shortest commercial runway at 1312 ft.and the Twin Otters are my favorite propeller aircraft, having flown on them many times, two times to Saba.

First time I saw that runway I thought, you've got to be kidding. But it serves. Nice vid, thanks!

years ago a group of buddies and i visited Saba on a scuba trip. we constantly tell stories of this landing. I should mention that unlike the video here, we flew over on a totally old, rickety plane. the cockpit was separated from the cabin by a shower curtain. the plane came to a full stop SUPER close to the cliff drop off at the end of the runway.

This strip has only 400m...the pilots used only 200m....Lol😂

Those Pilots made it look like just another ordinary landing and the approach view of the island is lovely, being to Saba two times, beautiful island.

That's professional flying and those Pilots made it look so ordinary, that approach view was very scenic, nicely done video.

1 of thr shortest runways and even use 9nly half of it. This plane is also a real good stop and go plane excellent for this kind of runways.

I just discovered Saba Island on google Earth and wow what a beautiful place, love to visit one day. Those pilots have one of the best jobs in the world.

Opening the airbrakes is NOT dangerous in a turn. It is flying too slowly close to the ground which will kill you.

Super landing

Is the propeller in the upper right above the pilots head all it takes to move this aircraft? Why isnt the one on the left moving? Should the plane not tilt to the left with only the right propeller working?

That takes tons of skill, I wonder if they had accidents trying to land or deaths in the past.
