- Deciding what to do with your cabinets can be a challenge during a remodel. You might want to replace your old cabinets, but why spend the money when you can repaint or reface them for less? How do you know which option will be best for your kitchen?
In this video, we’ll discuss the three main options for remodeling your cabinetry. By the time you reach the end, you should have a firm understanding of why you might choose each of the three options.
Here is an article that goes into more depth:

Cabinet Refacing is the sweet spot for outdated kitchens when painting or staining is just perfume on a pig and a complete tear out is more that you need. Refacing is done in many different ways and results can vary dramatically. If you are buying refacing spend some time doing real research and learning about the options and variables to avoid a serious case of buyers remorse. There are high quality good value options and there are some real rip off versions as well. Buyer beware.
Thank you so much for good advise
You're welcome! 😊
Hi! Thanks for your video!
The one question that I still have after having watched your video is, “Which is less expensive? Repainting (done by a professional for sure) or Refacing?
In my particular case our cabinetry is Approx 13 yrs old and are cheapies. Like partly something other than wood. Like laminate, perhaps. And they are stained dark.
Am wanting a white kitchen and am fine keeping current layout.
I’m even fine with keeping the cabinets and having them painted even though I’m not thrilled with the quality. IF it’s less expensive, that is.
Wanting white (or a bit off-white actually).
If the cost to have a pro repaint or reface would be about the same, then of course, I would choose refacing.
Needing some guidance and feedback, if possible.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video. Can you talk about refacing door materials? How do they differ from each other and what’s the best option?
Great question! The doors are replaced during cabinet refacing, which means you can go with a material you like and works best for your kitchen, while the boxes of the cabinets can have paint, veneer, or panel added to match the new doors. The type of material you go with can vary depending on your budget and what works best for you and the overall look.
We have an article that accompanies this video: lamontbros.com/should-i-repaint-reface-or-replace-my-kitchen-cabinets/
And this video compares different types of cabinet materials based on how waterproof they are: ua-cam.com/video/pfKkrPXdctQ/v-deo.html
Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions!
I have white laminate cabinets. Is reface an option?
What can I do with white melamine cabinets? Can I repaint them?
10 or 15 year-old-cabinets are not that old.
It all comes down to how they've lasted over the years! Often, this is where cabinets really start to show wear and tear, especially with certain materials, but others could appear and operate just fine. 10 years is usually the marker for when things tend to look "outdated." Doesn't mean you need to change your kitchen every 10 years, but the style market drastically changes in that time frame.
Right...my kitchen cabinets im working with here are from the early 80s.
Ide be stoked to have cabinets only 10yrs old
This guy just wants to sell new cabinets.
