    Ok - doing it this year. Aerated, seed and Milorganite done today and compost arrives tomorrow! Hoping for good results next season!

      So, how did it work out last year?

      @@Fetecheney Great. It was a long, hot day, but the results were worth it. Now I do 4 Milorganite treatments per year, just as they recommend, and the lawn looks a lot better.

    Topdressing our lawn with compost was the best thing we ever did. I had overseeded at the time but continue to do it yearly regardless.

      Do you add compost in spring or fall? I'm in zone 5b. I assume no comopost in summer months of july, aug?

      @@raczyk Either season is good. I’ve heard some opine that you should not do it in the summer months.

    That's some pretty nice looking compost. Are you able to buy it already screened? The kind I have around me tends to have sticks and even small stones in it

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Steve, We recommend checking with your local municipality or local garden/landscape centers for screen compost. @joegardenerTV suggests you should see and touch the compost yourself before placing an order to ensure it is free of rocks, glass, and plastic. Check that the compost has that earthy smell? When you squeeze the compost in your hand, does it clump together well but also break apart easily? If the compost doesn’t pass these tests, don’t buy it. For more info check out the blog: www.milorganite.com/blog/Lawn/how-naturally-feed-your-lawn-topdressing-compost

    For cool grasses, should the lawn revitilization be best done in the spring or fall? I'm in zone 5b.

      Hi! If you have cool-season grass varieties, early fall is the best time of year to renovate your lawn by aerating, top dressing with compost, overseeding, and repairing bare patches. The conditions are ideal for grass to grow-warm days and cool nights. For more tips on fall lawn care: www.milorganite.com/blog/Lawn/fall-lawn-care-beginners

    Should Compost be applied to lawn in summer months, july, aug?

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  Місяць тому

      You can topdress your lawn with compost at any time when the ground is not frozen, but if you topdress right after aerating a lawn, you will see even better results. Another great time to topdress with compost is when overseeding a lawn. Applying compost and seeds at the same time will improve germination and moisture retention.

    so use compost instead of topsoil?

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  18 днів тому +1

      Yes! A healthier lawn comes with healthier soil, and there is no better way to improve soil health than by adding compost.
      Compost contains the primary nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium - and an array of micronutrients to naturally feed a lawn. But there are many other benefits as well.
      Topdressing a lawn with compost adds organic matter to the soil, which provides for proper drainage and better tilth. That organic matter also hosts beneficial microorganisms that turn organic fertilizer and minerals in the soil into plant-available nutrients that can be taken up by roots. What brands of fescue or bluegrass grass seeds do you use?

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  3 місяці тому

      Hi, Grass seed brands vary by region; therefore we recommend reaching out to your local university extension agency for information and advice on the best grass varieties and brands specific to your area. www.nifa.usda.gov/land-grant-colleges-and-universities-partner-website-directory?state=All&%3Btype=All A tip when buying grass seed is to check the seed label to ensure the "weed seed" or "inert" is not over 0.5%. The higher the % the poorer the quality of grass seed.

    Does grass become compost?

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  4 місяці тому

      You can add fresh non-treated grass clippings to your compost pile. Another option is to leave short clippings on the lawn. They do not cause thatch but will break down quickly, adding moisture, nutrients, and organic matter to your soil. The grass pieces break down quickly and reduce the amount of fertilizer you have to use by as much as 25%.

  • @Piccolo_Re

    Why would you want fertilizer if overseeding? The original grass will grow and shade out the new seeds.

    • @MilorganiteFertilizer
      @MilorganiteFertilizer  Рік тому +2

      Mix four parts Milorganite with one part grass seed by weight when overseeding. It will help you see where you’ve applied particularly tiny grass seed and provides nutrients for the germinating seeds. You’re also saving time by seeding and fertilizing at the same time. Milorganite is low-nitrogen, which is good for fertilizing newly planted seeds. It’s also non-burning, so won’t damage tender grass blades. This replaces your early fall application of Milorganite.
