I must admit when I first listened to Pierce Brosnan's narration, I didn't really take to it that much having listened to Ringo Starr, Michael Angelis and George Carlin. However, after I watched The Great Discovery several times, his voice really grew on me and now I find his narration to be friendly and soothing and having a really welcoming feel to it. It was as if I was being told a bedtime story and Pierce did that so well and I guess that was one thing that really made The Great Discovery so unique for me.
He has a loose accent speaking English, as Pierce is of Irish heritage, which is almost smailiar to a Scotland accent. I think his voice is definitely a iconic out of all the "Thomas And Friends" narrators, cleanly telling us that "Thomas And Friends" is from England through his gentle, kind and smooth voice.

George Carlin did a great job of narrating the original show back in the 80's. Pierce brings a gentle voice to the show. I use to watch this show in the early or mid 90's as a kid. I enjoyed the show back then and can still watch it as an adult.
I would have hired Julie Andrews or Peter Sallis to be the new narrator in 2008 if it was up to me. Pierce does a good job, but I feel like he narrates a bit too slowly at times.
