Ringo is my childhood hero. Not even kidding, from Thomas the Tank Engine to Help!, he was my first rockstar for me to realize. For a 4-year old that's pretty damn important. God bless you Ringo, and God bless Thomas the Tank Engine!

TheLMSEngines so so true but why make it cartoon like nowadays, this stood out back in the day as it was kinda real to all the other cartoons on tv at the time.
Bring it back to real sets and models and more kids will watch it as it won't last another 30 years in its current cartoon format

Same here. My mother would say that Ringo Starr narrated it and was Mr. Conductor on Shining Time Station, but it did not realize what that meant. Now I look back and I think how awesome that is and how luck I was to watch it.

Ringo Starr... I've been a fan of Thomas since I first saw it in 1994, and now I'm a huge fan of the Beatles, and only now am I making the connection between the guy who sang Yellow Submarine and Octopus's Garden and the guy who first narrated this show. Wow....

Ringo's the best, Baldwin's my favorite, and Carlin's my least favorite.
Baldwin’s ok, only in “Haunted Henry” and TATMR, George in “Toad Stands By”, “Thomas Goes Fishing”, and a few episodes, Ringo in most of Season 1 and 2, including “Thomas Goes Fishing”, Michael Angelis in the rest of the classic series, and Michael Brandon in Seasons 8 to 12, and the CGI movies, including “Hero of the Rails”.

I watched the show on video tapes my grandparents had - presumably they still do, but I haven't checked lately - when I was a little kid. My favorite narrator, mostly because he's the narrator I heard the most, was George Carlin. May his soul rest in peace.

Ringo was such a good person to bring the show to life, but also when Thomas came to the US to do Shining Time he apparently got on so well with the whole cast and he loved working with the kids cast 😁

Shame Wilbert dosen't get the chance to say much, just kind of laughing along. Interesting also, just to point out, Wilbert shares his admiration for Clive Sprong, but dosen't mention C.Reginald Dalby! Thankyou ever so much for uploading!! Shame VCR's of the 1980's weren't of the quality of today's!

As much as I love Ringo, I think it's quite a shame that they didn't focus a bit more on the Rev. W. Awdry. They are, after all, his stories that are being televised. Ah, well. C'est la vie.

Been some good narrators for Thomas the tank engine and friends but none can be as good as Ringo. Wish he could have stayed on as the narrator to this day. One of the reasons why I started watching it and reading the books. Absolute legend

Ringo Starr was my favorite, and should of narrated Season 3-12 for US audiences, with Michael Angelis narrating the UK version, making two British narrators that narrate all English languages (Ringo for US and Angelis for UK/AUS/NZ).
And idviduial voice actors would of come after Season 7.

Ringo Starr, George Carlin, and Alec Baldwin. All celebrities I absolutely love and introduced through a kids show and I love their work outside of that. Ringo’s music and great personality, George’s fantastic stand up R.I.P, Alec’ great acting jobs in films like Beetlejuice and Glengarry Glen Ross. I’m glad I was introduced to them in this way
I seen this at SiFansite weeks ago and I would always thought that it has bought back some nostalgia feeling to the classic series of Thomas, with Ringo Starr as Wilbert Awdry commented "has done an excellent job". :) (Even though I'd born from about seven years later...)

I like the two seasons of Thomas and Friends from 1984 to 1986.
I love the clip of Thomas, Terence & the Snow. I think Ringo should have fitted my favourite part of Percy Runs Away in, as well. I'm sure his acquaintances would have loved to hear him raising his voice, as Percy whistles, and stares ahead, in wide-eyed horror. No prizes for guessing why. Cue the good old Runaway Theme Tune.

The US narrators sound retarded. :/ The older ones were okay though but not as good as the UK one.

Its not that I hate the US narrators its just that growing up in Australia I got used to Ringo and Michael
+Mitchell Miles Singapore casted Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis so I got used to both of them too. When I heard Carlin's narration, it took me a while to get used to it but in some episodes his narration was quite cool especially "Down The Mine" when he made Thomas react to Gordon's smell after he fell into a ditch.

Someday, I'm going to read the biography of Wilbert Awdry. I'm currently reading about Walt Disney. After him I'm going to read about Milton S. Hershey, and maybe I'll read about Awdry after him. The book I chose was, "The Thomas The Tank Engine Man: The Life Of Reverend W. Awdry," and it's by Brian Sibley. My mom ordered the book on December 30th, and I can't wait to get it.

@doodlecheesebug2 ME TOO. Where is the first part where you see RINGO as the miniature conductor who is invisible to the adults working at a train station? Only the kids see him and he tells stories about Thomas that have something to do with what's happening at the station that day. Later they had George Carlin replace Ringo seen as the miniature conductor before they took the miniature conductor bit out altogether. I thought they'd at least show a clip here :(

It is such a shame but there we go. Things has to made quicker and cheaper nowadays to meet the shareholder's demands. Britt put a lot of heart into those models.
There are still stop-motion like this around nowadays but it is quite few and far between. Aardman is the main one for this type of animation nowadays.
CGI can also be good at times but it depends how much time they put into it, which cannot be said for newer Thomas.
