  • Quick video on replacing the tie rods on my 1984 Porsche 944. This is actually a pretty easy job that eliminated a lot of the loose steering feel that the car was exhibiting.

    Those inner tie rods have to be peened to the rack shaft or they can come loose. I also use red locktite on them as "belt and suspenders." Also, you shouldn't apply rotational force to the rack shafts. There are flats on the shafts to use to counter while loosening/tightening the inner tie, then peen it with a punch or chisel. There is a groove in the end of the rack shafts where it should be peened. You should also drill out that peened (punched) area before removing the inner tie or you could damage your rack.
