    All of these people giving this guy shit about ruining these cars need to remember that people like this is the only reason these cars are around in the first place. Back in the day when these cars were everywhere they were just driven to death or raced or crashed then junked. Few people had the foresight to hold on to these cars and keep them safe albeit not as safe as they could be I will admit.

      This is true my uncle is a huge chevy fan and when he was in his 30's he bought 70's monte carlo's off of people for dirt cheap that where in good shape and put them away and stored them and people called him crazy for doing that but now just look at the price for one of those cars he told me "the reason why I bought out a bunch of them is because I knew they where gonna be worth something someday" and he was right and he said that he isnt gonna sell any of them until he is ready to retire and sell them off so he can live the rest of his life without to worrie about money

    Wow, the Superbrid is cool. Not many of those kicking around in survivor condition, normally they are over restored shadows. Its fun to see time capsules like this. Glad he's keeping them under cover.

    Colum shift cars were built because it is lighter to install column shift as opposed to a floor shift with all the heavy mounting brackets and console. Plus it is easier to drag race a column shift car than a console shift car. Same goes for bench seat vs bucket seats, the bench seat is lighter than the two bucket seats.

    why do people let rot this beautiful cars instead of taking care of them?, that says to me that person doesnt love cars

    • @RyanBrutt
      @RyanBrutt  9 років тому +6

      They aren't rotting. On most of the cars there all you see is dust on the complete cars. They are just in long term hibernation.

    • @arielatom03
      @arielatom03 9 років тому +6

      Ryan Brutt disagree. they could be in mint condition if someone had taken care of them

    • @nowitsabadtime
      @nowitsabadtime 9 років тому +1

      Its a lot like hoarding; people love the things they are 'collecting', but don't dedicate the time and money to care for them properly.

      nowitsabadtime so true.., there used to be a 65 or 66 mustang fastback up the road from me that was not for sale because the old man and his son was going to restore it someday,,well guess what..it rotted away with rust from sitting outside...what a waste..

    • @RyanBrutt
      @RyanBrutt  9 років тому +1

      I looked these cars over very carefully. There is very little rust. They were in a very low moisture area and for the most part off the ground.

      Barn Finds: Automotive Archaeology He's a hoarder, not an enthusiast. If I care about a car I'm not going to stack things on it and let there be 40+ years of dust just chilling on it.

    • @AutoArchaeology
      @AutoArchaeology 9 років тому +2

      Why not? Better then them sitting out in a field somewhere rotting away. The few items sitting on one car are not going to hurt them.

    • @gtastuntcrew302
      @gtastuntcrew302 9 років тому

      Barn Finds: Automotive Archaeology Yeah for sure it's better than a field.. But even just dust sitting on the paint of a car will etch it's way in though.. That's why even cars at a dealership need to be hit with a clay bar because they had dust sitting on them in the shipping containers and it etched into the clear. Maybe I'm just too anal about keeping cars clean xD These are awesome cars.. It's just a shame that they aren't sitting pretty all washed up and cared for. One hell of a find none the less.

    Don't knock this guy for leaving them in a barn to rot , he had them there before the 80s, not knowing , one day they would be worth 100 tomes more. We all had cars, and sadly sold them, at least, he's smarter than us, find them , keep them , hold them . Amen to barn finds .

  • @lylewaughtal3542
    @lylewaughtal3542 8 років тому +2

    People are all upset with this guy, but I am not. The Superbird was stated to have been bought in the 70's. Remember a thing called the "gas crunch"? Muscle cars were worth little to nothing at the time. I met a fellow in Florida 20 years ago who showed me a photo album of the cars he had worked on over the years, In one picture, there were 3 GT-350 Shelby Mustangs lined up by his shop. They were all turned into asphalt stock cars! He said they cut up Shelbys because they were cheaper than a regular Mustang and were already "half built". The guy with these cars probably bought them around the same time just because he liked them, and they were cheap enough to get ahold of. Yes, they should be restored now, but at least they are still here, and in restorable condition. If not for him, they probably would have been cut up for stock cars, drag cars, or bought by a kid who would have totaled them out, etc. They're his, he saved them, they are under a roof, and when he passes on, they will undoubtedly end up with someone who will bring them back to where they should be. Let him be happy that he has them. There is a good chance that if it wasn't for the guy you are hating on, they would be nonexistent.

      + SpeedFreak Brings back memories of the "Columbo" Peugeot 403, car has been parked next to the ocean in Orange County, the dude that owns it thinks it's worth millions .... literally a rotting hulk now ... nothing salvageable .. .not even the riveted VIN ... which is mostly rotted away.
      Peugeot folks in France, back in the early 1990s offered him a very fair price (when the car was still salvageable); that man's greed got the best of him...and he'll never get a dime now.

    As a young teenager back in the '80s, I asked this speed shop owner about a White tricked-out '66 Mustang GT he had. First words out of his mouth? "Naaat for sale!!!!" "and if it was? TEN GRAND!!" So rude. About five years later, I had the last laugh however; his wife and daughter somehow found my house (probably all the classic cars), and offered that (very!) car to me for only $3500. I was busy with other cars, so had to politely decline ;) It's funny how things turn around if you just give it time...

    I have restored one or two muscle cars at a time since the late 70's Put them all back on the road since I was 18th years old. MOPAR, FOMOCO, Pontiacs, Hurst/Olds, AMC, Chevy's. I given so many car lovers a chance at buying them from me restored. Never made a living at it just love seeing good old American iron back on the road. I'm 61 years old now never hoarded not one car to let it rot like that. Unfortunately I'm to tired to save any more. Out of the last two I'm restoring I will probably sell one and keep my 1969 hugger orange Z/28 until I'm to old to drive. I know a few people like this guy. They rather say they have one till the day it rots to dust before they let you save it. Its a mental issue most of the time.

    It's probably barn-find cars that were mostly saved, like from being out in the elements, accidents, half-tailed alterations, etc. Like the "pyramids" housed relics tombs and treasures. I would believe that the hoarders are more the "un-selfish" ones saving a bit of history for "future" generations to leave out in the weather, crash, and alter.

      It is, and it's called hoarding. And it is the most difficult condition to treat, as hoarders (unlike OCD folks) do not think they have a problem. When you show interest in cars like this, it tends to bootstrap the behavior.
      "Gee," they think, "everyone wants to know if I want to sell all the junked cars in my yard!" - confusing interest with value. Half the time the neighbors are asking only because they want the mess cleaned up.
      I knew a guy like this with 50 old BMWs in his yard. He claimed they were "significant cars" but they lay out in the weather deteriorating. He fought constantly with County zoning and the neighbors. At the BMW meets, he would drive his wife's old Subaru- because none of his "collector cars" ever ran.
      I told him, "Hey, why not sell all these cars, and use the money to restore ONE of them for your own use? The cars would go to good homes and be taken care of, and you'd have a nice ride!"
      But you see, then no one would be constantly asking him about his hoard of old cars. And that's no fun, for a hoarder.
      The only thing you can do with a hoarder is walk away or wait for them to die. Seriously.

      His widow will sell them for their actual value, after he dies - and someone will restore them then! So hoarders do have a use, when they're dead.

    Only true collectors understand the passion behind someone who collects up cars and stores them. Everyone else that slams these people haven't a clue what true love of cars is. Spinners would be a good example--passionless people who are all about the money and nothing about the cars. The number of bottom feeders in car collecting has grown exponentially in recent years--don't leave your garage door open anymore folks....

    With a lot of these cars having a bunch of crap piled on them and uncovered, it's really hard to say they are protected, unless you count the thick layer of dust. Sad really, I hope he can restore them or at least decide that it would be better to let some of them go so that someone else can fix them.

    I swear to God that there are more Hemi cars out there than were ever made . Seems like 4x the number . All owners swear they are original . People that weren't around then understand how rare seeing a real Hemi car was . They weren't everywhere as some believe now .
