What a truly remarkable and fantastic video... Whether you like this type of car or not- it is the whole history behind it-the story captured me from start to finish. These stories never fail to keep me in awe. This one in particular was very well done indeed - even the tunes were so fitting-just wonderful to listen, read and watch. I wish the doctor could see his beloved Bugatti now- back to her former glory-I assume,he would have a smile on his face..... Maybe.......maybe he does see her - who knows.....
he knew when he bought it he got the best car deal in history. One of seventeen and all. Lots of cars like this got sold by rich Lord's suddenly faced with radically increased income tax rates and as a result their toy car collections were bought and sold like baseball cards. Dr Carr was just smart enough to keep it safely stored for posterity.
Many similar cars got raced to destruction. Many more rotted away without being sold many more horribly customized then scrapped. It's insanely rare that a st like this ended up in hands like his.
i dont drive and have never had an intrest in cars.....but this....what a beauty...sleek stylish and really beautyfull..it looks more like a sculpture than a car. really intresting story and vidio too, thankyou for sharing.
Thank you for uploading this great video. It's too bad that the restoration was not recorded and uploaded. That would've been a real treat. This was a treat in itself.
Great video and story indeed - loved it thank you!! I cannot believe a car like that was sold for only 4.5 m$... Must be worth 10 times that now. What an amazing automobile...
rolling art . Bugattis are some of my favorite cars . the 36-38 type 57s/sc Atlantic coupe is my favorite Bugatti. but this car is a very close . There was a Rare 1938 Bugatti Atalante found in a garage in new York state not fare from my house a few years back
Superb video!!! Many thanks for all your work on this history sharing event. Though a lot folks would not agree with the car being fully restored...I fully enjoy seeing what they looked like in their original beauty. As for the luggage rack being left on...guess one could say that this Bugatti is the only one with a luggage rack on it...making it even more rare. It's all how you look at it. Again...thank-you!
A wonderful story, great to see something rare like this shown. It was a treat to see her restored too, but personally I would have kept the different bumpers that were part of her past. Thanks for sharing.
4.53 million dollars later means shes now in the hands of someone who can afford to restore and maintain her. I'm sure the family can go see her anytime.
Classy rendering of this story... Chopin's scores fit perfecty with the shape and breathtaking beauty of the car. Very good job, TheExStig. Well done. BRA-VO!! For your next video on a similarly beautiful car, think about using Debussy's Reflets dans l'Eau, Fauré's Barcarolle or Ravel's Jeux d'Eau in support of the video: unlike Chopin (who was half French, half Polish), these three were 100% French, and all would fit marvelously with the French style exemplified by the car you might want to feature... like a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic, a Royale or a Hispano-Suiza H6B for example? Just teasing... Kind of...
koolll car and nice video, always a pleasure to see old rare cars like that in their original condition when re-discovered and then in their restored condition. nice work, thank you for the upload
When they said it was being auctioned I thought it might make $5 - 600,000, but it just goes to show what I know about classic cars! Absolutely incredible car which provided a very nice windfall for his family.
Wow, What a found! I've seen many Bugattis in the French national automuseum (they own 87 Bugattis!) and the most impressive is the Type41 "Cupe Napoleon".
A haunting and evocative accounting of a car whose mystique has no equal. While faithfully documenting the ownership history of a single Bugatti, this video subtlety explores the depth of feeling car lovers have for certain models, even though they have no real-world connection with them. A must for lovers of historic cars.
So glad the purchaser restored the car to its former glory. It's ridiculous when certain barn finds are kept in deplorable, rat infested, condition I understand that a car can only be original once, but that should apply to cars that have been kept up since new. Few can fathom what a beautiful car like this should actually look like unless someone cares enough to restore it. Great video! Thanks for going to the trouble of making it.
Someone asked what song, it is Chopin's Andante Spianato preceding the Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat major. op.22. He really was a great composer, and fitting in it's beauty here. thanks for posting this.
Sorry if I sounded cold or cocky in my post minutes ago. This Bugatti Atalante 57S is a beautiful work of art with a wonderful, but at times sad history. Glad she was saved and restored to the height of her glory.
Me too, but at least it's now preserved, will be well cared for in the future, and will be truly appreciated by its current owner. That's likely a far better fate than it would have at the hands of any of the nephews.
Bugatti's back then looked just so amazing, so much sleeker than any other car. Now they make the veyron look like any other super car. Big, bulky, and it wouldn't stand out from a crowd of cars
Dear "TheExStig" Is the second the Piano Transcription by Wilhelm Shaum of Carnivale of Venice? I heard it 30 years ago and bought the piano score, but could not find a recording anywhere. Thank you for the lovely music.
The description says, "collectors worldwide knew the whereabouts of this car" - but I got the impression that the relatives were surprised to find it in his garage - IF they did not know he had it, until they opened the garage, I would love to have seen the face(s) of whoever opened the garage and found it! Whether they were surprised or not, this is an interesting story about an awesome car. And I am always amazed that anyone has millions (or even hundreds of thousands) to spend on one rare car. Must be nice.
I would have kept the body as it was in the lock-up garage and done only what was needed to make it roadworthy. I had a 1954 Citroen Light 15 that came out of a barn in Quebec. I restored it mechanically but left the body as it was which was actually pretty crummy. Dents, holes drilled in the fenders, the paint was flaking off. It had a past and I liked it as it was as it showed its history from South Africa and Botswana. A kid crashed into it at a crosswalk near Toronto. The insurance paid to restore the body like new, but I didn't like it so much after that and sold it off. Once an old car is painted, you have a shiny car but you have lost something that you can not recover.
In his time, Bugatti was the premier designer. Even today we appreciate the beautiful curves and slopes. I read the latest Bugatti (2014-15) has produced the last motorcar. I believe it encompassed all of the design philosophy the originals had. I just hope the next design will not stray.
I think earl Howe would smile amused and say boys it's an eighty year old car. Out it in a museum and buy a regera if he were around today. He wanted an excuse to stuff a powerful engine in a luxury car and bugatti said we have just the thing sir how deep are your pockets lol. I never knew it got new number plates and all original fit and finish. I also smile at respecting Lord howes posessiveness over his color scheme. Too proper. What a magnificent car and magnificent conservator in Dr Carr. Nice to see his own posessiveness result in a tidy windfall for his nieces and nephews for sure.
Restored to the original Earl Howe's colours and why not?
Blue flash on black
I would have thought racers courtesy and the earls explicit request would be the answer. Kind of a giant screw you to the guy.
Perfect music for a great story.

4.53 million dollars later means shes now in the hands of someone who can afford to restore and maintain her.
I'm sure the family can go see her anytime.
How else can they divide their inheritance. ?
Well made documentary. Keep it up.
One of few cars on this planet with a soul
What a beautiful car, story and music.
great video loved the piano playing in the background may God rest his soul and grant him peace
Really well done video, not to mention the actual restoration. Quite a fitting soundtrack too.

Wow, unbelievable! The music fit the bill to a "T", also!
this is just beautiful, old world stuff..music's suits too.
Wow just wow! Hats off!

One of few Cars on this Planet with a Soul.
Can you imagine the excitement upon discovering this.. Some serious bone chilling findings right there..
Wow, What a found!
I've seen many Bugattis in the French national automuseum (they own 87 Bugattis!) and the most impressive is the Type41 "Cupe Napoleon".
I almost cry how good this is.
What a lovely story of an enchanting car.

Masterpiece
A great video, a great car.Thank you.
wow! This is just amazing
What a beautiful music... can someone tell me who the composer is and the title of this composition?
Pan3405 The first is: Andante spianato in G major
The 2nd (4:27):
'Souvinir de Paganini' Variations in A major
Both Frederic Chopin
Enjoy.
***** Thank you so much..I should have recognized Chopin.. The combination with the pictures brings you back to earlier years.. so nicely done!!
What a great story 😀👍🏽
Very well done. Thank you!
Gerard Paul Hill III
I don't really understand the motivation behind removing the bumpers and changing the reg - surely they add a degree of history and patina to the car?
I guess they know better.
Beauty,,,,pure Beauty
To find a car left untouched since 1960 in its original condition and later sold for 4.53 millions is trully amazing
wow great find. there are just 7 of these excisting
nah only four in existence buddy
SuperHodge08 correct me if I’m wrong. One of the 4 were missing. Was this the missing piece that was finally discovered? Cheers
What very nice piece of automotive history>
John W Shakespeare from Centralia ,Illinois had the biggest collection of Bugatti's in the USA. And to this day still holds that record.
Yeah, I put this story up 3 months ago regarding the sale of that collection
see it here The Bugatti List
***** Can you do one on John W Shakespeare's 1953 Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia Pinin Farina Spyder .Or his 1951 Ferrari Export 212 Touring Barchetta .
Trucker One I'll look into that and see what I can do
***** Ok, Thanks

Bugatti also loved racing. This car was very fing fast in it's day.
Someone asked what song, it is Chopin's Andante Spianato preceding the Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat major. op.22. He really was a great composer, and fitting in it's beauty here. thanks for posting this.
Its amazing that my grandfather was born the same year that this car was built
Sorry if I sounded cold or cocky in my post minutes ago. This Bugatti Atalante 57S is a beautiful work of art with a wonderful, but at times sad history. Glad she was saved and restored to the height of her glory.
Those guys uncle left them one fucking Bugatti, my uncle only has like 6 cats.
Alejandro Medina and they sold it.....jesus
@Seized Cheese Money money money...I would keep the car at all costs
Put them up for auction!
tbh I would probably sell it too. That's just too much money.
Me too, but at least it's now preserved, will be well cared for in the future, and will be truly appreciated by its current owner. That's likely a far better fate than it would have at the hands of any of the nephews.
What a cool car! Great story
I have never seen this model, jaw dropping beautiful, i would have to had a drive of it before it was sold,

I'm happy to be born in early 80's ... I had childhood. I didn't have to make retarded comments over engineering and design masterpiece.
?
R.I.P Ettore Bugatti , beauty desing for more expensive car
really nice and strong body kit
awesome. thanks for the story
Great film
I was hoping they would have shown the interior after the restoration.
wow this is what the 50's must feel like, wish i can teleport to every decade and experience a week in it
I own a number of old vehicles. My first dream every night is finding something like this, even a rare 1939 V8 Citroen. Sigh.
Great video 👏
A true engineering masterpiece.
If you took the headlights out you could easily fit in cannons.. Looks so epic.
